When you drive drunk, you smash into things.
When you drive stoned, you miss your exit.

It's probably more dangerous to drive while sleepy.

It doesn't matter.

This, absolutely. Still, it is also a legitimate defense against the people crying out that if pot is legalize then the roads will be awash in blood from all of the maniacal stoners driving through our streets.

Since I'm stoned all the time, I pretty much drive stoned every time. Even got pulled over after I'd been smoking and driving.

Never been in an accident.

However, I fell off my bicycle onto concrete and smashed up my face TWICE while drunk. I just fell...off...the...damn...bike. I won't drive even I've been drinking a little.

nburghmatt: when are you better off walking down the sidewalk, drunk or stoned?

I can comment on this, drunk you fall off the sidewalk into traffic, stoned you end up a mile from your house wondering where you were going. However in both cases it is impossible to walk past the combination Huddle House/Convenience store next to my old college apartment.

The pizza delivery guy is stoned. Hey may be a few minutes late, but he got there in one piece. Your pizza, however, is missing a slice.

2011-12-01 03:38:29 PM
Drunk drivers drive through red lights.
Stoned drivers stop at green lights.

This is a generalization, of course, but I have found that people who drive stoned tend to be overly cautious. That doesn't mean it's safe, but it's probably safer than driving drunk.

Then 50% of the population needs to stay off the roads because I consider being a female as a driver as an impairment.

Driving stoned isnt really that big of an impairment. Sure your reflexes arent super fast but you drive slower automatically. How many news articles have you read about a person getting into a wreck while speeding WHILE stoned?

Quasar: It's probably more dangerous to drive while sleepy.

This. Sleepiness plus the gentle soothing hum of the motor plus the monotony of not moving at all for 3-4 minutes at a time = Bad things happening.

/Fell asleep in right lane of interstate. Woke up 5 miles and 2 turns later in left lane. Pulled off at the next exit, grabbed some caffeine pills and food, and finished the drive.

The difference is you are not moving a one ton machine at speed while walking. I am pro pot, would probably even smoke again if legalized but do not think people should be behind the wheel while high/drunk

It's irresponsible to drive impaired. That being said, driving stoned isnt a big deal if you aren't new to getting stoned especially once you understand the difference between indica and sativa and what works for you.

Boss was a total psychopath. The last time i saw him, he invited me over and offered me some weed for bringing him food. I show up and he's on shrooms, screaming at me about various things. He has a 3D tv, he thought the 3D was on when it wasn't. When i pointed out "if it's in 3D, why can any of us see what's on the screen without the glasses."

He went ballistic, screaming that I somehow changed the settings among other things. Told him to eat a dick and left.

From what I understand, they don't pay that well. My Brother in Law works in a state that has dispensaries. He had to quit too because all they paid was minimum wage. Turns out, there's a ton of people who can stand around and talk about pot all day long.

Ugh, I hate driving stoned. Worst buzzkiller ever. I have never driven drunk, but I know that would end really badly.

2011-12-01 04:11:54 PM
Someone neds to come up with a way to fieldtest marijuana levels (for traffic stops) without drawing blood. This will help the legalization movement. We've heard from too many folks that their biggest problem is you can tell when someone's drunk as the breathalyzers are pretty accurate, but you'll never be able to tell a guy that's had a few puffs from the guy that is blown out and genuinely impaired if they play it cool.

I love how I can go to the store and buy alcohol and drink myself to death but something that would never kill me is under the banhammer

I consider stupidity an impairment, so the percentage is even higher.

You can run over a dozen schoolchildren and get away with it if it was caused by your stupidity, but god help you if you're drunk.

So much this. I know everyone has their "my city has the worst drivers" thing... but since moving down to New Orleans... damn. People are so completely brain dead. I seriously have to stop at every corner- stop sign or not- to make sure someone doesn't run their stop sign and hit me.

I don't drive with an ounce of liquor in me, because its so easy to get into an accident that's NOT my fault.

Pot makes you think you are a worse driver. Alcohol makes you think you are a better one. But they both objectively make you a worse driver.

2011-12-01 05:07:02 PM
Some people say there is no such thing as a stupid question...but honestly, to ask if it is somehow more dangerous to drive under the influence of Cannabis than under the influence of alcohol is an incredibly stupid question.

Alcohol abuse is quite clearly in EVERY WAY more damaging to the individual, and society, than is Cannabis "abuse"....and really only an incredibly ignorant person would be unaware of that medical/scientific fact in this day and age.

In terms of driving impairment, as the article unsurprisingly noted, it isn't even FARKing close.....driving drunk is provably FAR worse.

/RE-legalize it!

2011-12-01 05:07:35 PM
Your doing it wrong.

One must drink AND smoke to achieve optimum driving ability.

\add a little blow to, ya know, keep your wits about you

2011-12-01 05:40:53 PM
Epidemiological studies show that drivers with a blood THC level of more than 10 ng/mL, about one-half of a joint, are far more likely than sober drivers to cause an accident.
That is all we need to know. The entire rest of the article was only lame argumentation trying to explain away this obvious fact.

You want to prevent accidents and save lives? Keep all of the drunks and stoners from driving.

Smoking and driving just takes practice.

/at least that's what I heard
