So by the authors logic, if anybody fakes an attack by another group, we should ignore every report of an attack from that group forever?

And also, if members of a group are sometimes exploited by members of their own group, they can't possibly be exploited by anyone else?

No, that was proven years ago

FTFA:Another unfolding controversy arose at SUNY - New Paltz where classmates returning from Black Solidarity Day found "Colored Only" pasted above a water fountain. Apoplectic students and faculty alike decried this "blatant racism," some reputedly even fearful for their safety after further racist messages materialized. School President Donald Christian will host a forum regarding the incident.

We'll quickly learn if this was another inside job or merely an immature prank, but hysterics aside, its actual implication was depriving whites of a drinking fountain. No reports have yet circulated of White Student Union members marching in "solidarity" to reclaim what was presumably a public accommodation,...

PonceAlyosha: I really didn't need that article in super huge picture book sized font. It's not worth reading.

The moment he mentioned African Americans faring better in the US than in Africa, I knew it wasn't worth any further time. Comparing an entire continent to one nation (even one made up of states) is retarded, and also irrelevant to how much race relations in the US may or may not be sucking. At least Fark isn't the only place that uses "...b-b-b-b-but Clinton/Africa/Nazi Germany/Romulan Star Empire" in lieu of an actual argument.

Know how I know he's racist? Poorly written flowery prose mixed with an apologetic tone. Classic tip-off for someone trying too hard to sound innocent.

That being said I see truth in the article. The boy who cried "racism!" routine is getting old, and it's entirely counter productive. The idea should be to have a comfortable level of mutual racism, not such prickly relations that minor comments are grounds for fake apologies and hand-wringing on CNN.

/Also it's been nearly 50 years since the Civil Rights Act was signed into law, so excuses for a lack of success and cultural stability are sounding more and more like excuses only.

What I really hate is the automatic fallback of "---dat rasist!"--- whenever no logical counterargument can be made, mainly because none exists.

For some time now, Tea Party people have been painted as "racist" because they espouse smaller government and balanced budgets----while the selfsame liars who accuse them lionize Barack Obama, whose disastrous policies have done more harm to blacks than to whites.

Read "Uncle Sam's Plantation" by Star Parker, it will open your eyes.

2011-12-01 03:07:15 PM
No employer of mine has ever discriminated against any minority. Has yours? Most firms actively recruit and promote people of color while extolling diversity.

Right. Discrimination in employment is over, that's why people with "black" names require an extra eight years of experience to get an interview.

TFA:
While numerous obstacles hamper more widespread black affluence, one pernicious undercurrent appears particularly destructive: manufactured racism.

I smell an idiot.

We'll quickly learn if this was another inside job or merely an immature prank, but hysterics aside, its actual implication was depriving whites of a drinking fountain.

Okay, that's one of the dumbest farking arguments I've had the misfortune of reading. This moron goes way beyond idiotic.

Political correctness essentially reflects Marxism applied culturally to incorporate race, sex and other demographic distinctions where orthodox Marxism fixates on class.

It's really quite amazing how he raises the bar of stupidity higher with every sentence.

A better explanation for the unfortunate prevalence of black poverty is a breakdown of personal responsibility. Blacks exhibit far lower graduation figures and much higher illegitimacy rates than other groups, both of which provide excellent predictors of economic success.

Now control for socioeconomic status and get back to me, you dumb prick.

His bio:

Fixed.

dfacto
/Also it's been nearly 50 years since the Civil Rights Act was signed into law, so excuses for a lack of success and cultural stability are sounding more and more like excuses only.

Starting socioeconomic status is the major factor here. The cycle of poverty is extremely difficult to break and blacks started from slavery followed by a century of legally backed discrimination. Poor caucasians, hispanics, etc. also have a really farking hard time being successful and the trend in the last several decades in the United States has been one of steadily falling income mobility.

2011-12-01 03:17:05 PM
The author says his employer hasn't shown bigotry in employment, has any of yours? Uh yeah, many of them. It was especially so at businesses that had off-the-books staff. No one would complain because they didn't want any trouble with the taxman.

I remember one supervisor who would dog ear the application if the person was black. At one place, which was a restaurant, they hired a bi-racial lady for the job as hostess--she was a wonderful person, very pretty with such a great smile too--she was perfect for the job. But the district supervisor didn't want her as a 'representative' of the company, didn't fire her, but simply erased her name from the work schedule. That was there way of getting rid of anyone they didn't like that was doing a good job and couldn't be fired for cause. I remember an Inn that would close down for a few weeks because they couldn't get any help in a region loaded with hispanic workers--not their type of people.

I can't believe Forbes would actually print such hogwash--if people need to make their point by scraping the bottom of the barrel that's because they themselves are only just above it.

At least we know that the sheer idiocy of the the headline article isn't a fluke.

Forbes douchenozzle
The nations enjoying limited government, property rights, sound currency, free trade, ease of regulation, low taxes and restrained public spending include: Hong Kong, followed by Singapore, New Zealand, Switzerland, Australia, Canada, Chile, United Kingdom, Mauritius and the United States.

I see some countries there with higher taxes and governments well to the left of the United States.

Just a couple sentences later:
The USA has likely fallen further since 2009 as abrasive government expansion continued. Obamacare and Dodd-Frank both passed in 2010.

Canada, the UK, and others in that list have universal health care and they rank higher than we do, you ignorant fark!

/the stupid, it burns!

What you say is half true. Wherever there's external blame to be placed, at some point you have to admit that there's heaps of internal blame as well. Good example is eastern Europe which was both culturally and economically screwed by communism and the USSR, but is still a shiathole 20 years later. It takes people sucking and not having the clarity or balls to admit it to cause that kind of longterm failure.

Chameleon: people with "black" names require an extra eight years of experience to get an interview.

That's a real problem, but it's naive to attribute it to race, or at least solely to race -- names represent culture much more than a race or skin color, and intra-cultural hiring is a valid (if potentially discriminatory) risk-reduction technique. So the solution probably has less to do with telling people how bad they are for being racist and more to do with either A) finding more useful techniques for evaluating job candidates and/or B) improving cultural integration such that "black names" isn't a distinct group from "american names" (or eventually just "names").

A. If so, this has been coming for a while, the Latino population in the US has been growing steadily for decades
B. This will do little to unseat entrenched power structures and cultural institutions that already exist and anyone concerned about the changing racial makeup of the US has no real practical reason to do so
C. A person's attitudes, values, and character are not determined by race, nor predictable by race
