"This is not a free-for-all situation," Lt. Englert said. "Obviously, this money is ... bank property."

And good luck getting it back.

This needs to happen alot more often.

In the meantime, police are asking anyone who might have seen the flying cash or have taken photos or video of the chaos to contact them at 412-833-7500

Which means that they don't already have any from street cameras, so go ahead and keep it.

Don't know jack about bank policy on such a thing, but if they don't have the serial numbers of these bills somewhere, that's free money. It's not the right thing to do to keep it, but I have a hard time feeling sorry for the bank.

And let me guess, the bank will get a bailout for the $100,000 they lost.

If I lose a $20 on the street, I can't ever get it back.

String 'em up, all of 'em

Will it make it harder to prove, but it is stil lillegal. I am sure if there is any video of this it will be up on youtube rather quickly and will be used to identify who was involved with grabbing up the money.

What's the Chance any of this will end up in the Community Chest?

How about you cite the transport company for causing a ruckus too.

/it would be fun if you were super rich to cause cash crazed panics

Uh.. why feel sorry for the bank at all? Feel sorry for the American Government. They're the ones footing the bill.

/FDIC, how does it work!?

No, it's textbook looting/theft.

If you crash your car and your wallet flies out of your car, is it still free money? I'd have a hard time feeling sorry for you since you obviously didn't keep track of your belongings.

Most banks by their very nature are looters and thieves.
I feel no pity for the robber who is robbed.

So I assume you've been keeping your money in a mattress all these years.

Right?

Came upon an overturned Rolling Rock truck on route 40 once.
Truck was off the road and the driver was nowhere to be found.
I saved as many bottles as I could and continued mouth-to-mouth when I got home.

They also pay insurance premiums for situations like this, it won't be a bailout though. It'll be an insurance payment.

And you aren't getting your $20 back because you aren't insured against accidental loss like the bank is. You could buy traveler's cheques though.

Well dude, not like that. This isn't an FDIC situation. The courier service is insured outside the FDIC.

I use the Bank of Mason.

DrippinBalls: I would have swept it up, kept it and had the best Christmas EVER!

I would have taken a picture of myself rolling around in the money , blacked out my face and sent it to the bank with a letter that was 2 words long.

One word begins with f and the other word begins with y.

"it the banks property" ....give me a break please, finally a chance for people to get their share of the 1%ers loot

*checks Google Maps*

Damn it - if I'd only driven a mile or so further south during my shopping trip yesterday I could have really cashed in!

Whats really funny is you have zillions of competent unemployed people in this country and this bank couldn't manage to find somebody that could drive down a road without spewing money out the back of his vehicle.

Is this bank run by people from the Bush admin ?

2011-12-01 01:37:58 PM
But.. but... there is a reward for the money that they have no idea who has. So you can bring in the $10,000 and get a bundt cake or something.

Oh.. and all that feel good about doing something right stuff...

Who the hell is stupid enough to be filming cash being gathered???

I guarantee you they have the serial numbers for the bills on record. Banks have all sorts of rules to follow regarding transport and what not. I question whether or not they will do any good. Its not one person is trying to offload a hundred thousand dollars in sequential bills like with a normal robbery.

I'm sure quite a few people filmed it and posted "can you believe this" with a link to the video on FB. I would be shocked if this didn't happen.

Good point. I hadn't considered the fact that it's the courier who's left hanging on this one.

I submitted this exact link yesterday with an overly long and somewhat obtuse headline. Apparently, it fell off the back of my fark account before it made it to the mods or whatever you call them. I'm feeling somewhat down about this, but I'm sure one of you will cheer me up.

"I probably got that bill in my change at Wallmart".
It can't be proven, and in about a month they'll stop even looking, as all the bills will likely be dispersed by then.
Gone with the wind as it were.

That intersection is right by the police station and no where near the donut shop.
Ergo: no official witnesses.

People who don't return the dough could face theft charges.

... if you catch them.
