That makes me sad. I had that issue in the link. I was all over anything Mortal Kombat 2 during that era.

I let me subscription run out earlier this year. It just wasn't as interesting as it used to be.

There is little justice in a world where the print magazines go under and Kotaku lives.

Are you as hyped for the 32x as I am? It's going to be huge!

My dad would never buy me gamecheat mags when I was younger so I had to go to the store with a pen and paper and copy the cheats.

I had to do the same thing.

Its sad that GamePro is no longer. But at the same time it did survive 20 years and through the Internet boom. Hats off to those guys for what used to be a great magazine!

RIP GamePro. Thanks for keeping me company through all those study-halls in high school.

Would it bother you to toss out a spoiler alert, at least?!

Meh, Next Generation was better.

No, you can't have my Volume 1, Issue 1.

Been a subscriber since the NES.

Last issue I got said they were discontinuing the magazine sent in the mail for a thick newsstand only magazine. I guess that went down the drain as well.

2011-12-01 12:52:39 PM
RIP GamePro. I had the magazine for a few years back in middle school. Their twitter feed was actually pretty useful. Hopefully their writers can make their own start up and deliver the same kind of news.

Spoiler alert:

Don't worry, that image isn't accurate. You lose her armor and weapons when she dies, not the materia.

I miss Play Magazine. Great writing, great pictures, and minimal ads. Also pissed because I renewed my subscription for a year, saw one issue and then they disappeared form the globe without a fart or whisper.

There was another truly great one about 15 years ago where every issue was like Lowrider for video games. I miss that one, too.

Man, with this and the closing of Wizard Magazine, my teenage years just took a big hit.

GamePro
GamePlayers
NextGeneration
Electronic Gaming Monthly
EGM2
GameFan

Wow man, so many memories. I feel giddy thinking about it :3

Thank you guys for all the fun you provided.

(I know they're not reading this, so save the snark)

Same here, recently ran into my collection at my parent's house. I can't believe I read through some of those old 200+ page monster issues as a pre-teen.

How about I trade you for issue 1 of Gamepro?

/It came free with my copy of 1943 for the NES.
//I have no idea why I held onto it for so long...

I have every GamePro from about 1992 to about 1998 in a drawer at my parents' house, most of them in mint condition. Any chance it will be worth anything?

Hey guys, let's try to name all of their editors. I can think of a few: Scary Larry, Slasher Quan, and Lawrence of Arcadia.

GameFan was definitely my favorite magazine of all time, I actually came in 2nd of the Donkey Kong Country contest and won a years subscription.
GamePro was good, EGM was good. Next-gen was amazing, but nothing ever came close to GameFan.

Nothing will ever come close to the Jap-pseudo racism comment from September 95, look up gamefan on wikipedia and scroll down to controversy.

I Like Bread: I was more of an EGM guy.

EGM had better reviews and an infinitely better April Fool's joke every year. Plus Seanbaby, Hsu and Chan, and their writing wasn't directed at people under the age of 10. I don't care if print is dead, I still loved that magazine.

fark, I better sign into my Prodigy accounts and chat my buddies about this!

When I think Gamepro, I think of the 16 bit war. It was awesome, Snes vs Genesis. E/A sports on Genesis or Square games on Snes? Street Fighter 2 on Snes or Mortal Kombat with fatalities on Genesis?

I had both and loved them equally, games now are wonderfully complex but lacking the sheer joy and fun factor of the 8/16 bit days.

2011-12-01 04:27:13 PM
Ah yes, GamePro... The magazine that, while I was a kid, had "breaking news" on things 3 months after other magazines had it...

Honestly can't say I'll be missing this one.

2011-12-01 04:50:47 PM
It had gotten pretty good in the last couple of years. That said, I was still more upset at the whole death of EGM thing.
