McCain does have an awkwardly peculiar sense of humor. This definitely wasn't funny, but I agree that Schumer was being overly sensitive and dramatic.

I mean for crying out loud -- I was born and raised in Jersey and now I live in Florida. Get over it.

As long as you don't put the "duh" in Florida, you are good with me.

/wasn't trying to offend you by calling you a damn yankee

//Funny gator story: Years ago some members of the Florida Jaycees traveled to a national convention in Reno (?) or some other out of state location. Of course, the alligator was the official mascot of their group. Because it was so far to drive, they naturally flew. Having had a wonderful time at the convention, it was time for them to fly back. The gator's handler had smuggled it through the airport and was comfortably in the air when the little critter escaped and was running up and down the aisles of the plane scaring passengers.

Lighten up, Chuck...

Also, if you're going with a response zinger about Arizona, it would have been funnier if you said something about giving it and it's residents back to Mexico.

Jesus!

Mine was at Gatorland in wrestling class. Very safe and controlled.

And I wasn't offended by Yankee. It's hard to do "lighthearted" in short textual note ;-)

Walking in Disney World once in the '80s, my dad and I saw a few guys with a large cage with a sliding door--obviously for alligators--down by a creek. My dad asked what they were after. One of the guys paused and said "it's a Yankee trap."

Good to know....

Sybarite: It's not like Long Island is part of Real America™ anyway.

Long Island entered the United States, along with the State of New York, by ratifying the Constitution in 1788 - the 11th state to do so, which by my math shows it to be one of the ORIGINAL 13 colonies. George Washington used LI for espionage during the Revolutionary War, as the British controlled half the island.

7.5 million people - most of them America citizens - live there, as of 2010.

I realize you're kidding, but this part of "not real America" has been a part of America - an unbroken alliance - far longer than many parts of Real AmericaTM, and without that pesky 5 years off in the middle.

// how many rednecks - you know, the type that goes all cosplay for colonial garb (like they wore in NEW YORK in 1788) - died on 9/11?
// only sort of kidding
// but seriously - you Teabaggin' types can take your Real AmericaTM (and all <150 years of your "fealty" to the US with it) and shove it up each others' asses

His problem was that McCain made fun of Americans. Not that he made fun of Long Islanders. Making fun of Arizonians...Arizones...people from Arizona should be just as unacceptable, were Schumer consistent.
