That wasn't just pants-on-head-retarded, that was urine-soaked-pants-on-head retarded. Which I expect from most sports article, especially those coming from Fox Sports, but damn.

Keep lowering that bar, Jen. You're doing God's work.

WHAT IF SOMETHING COMPLETELY DIFFERENT FROM WHAT HAPPENED IS HAPPENING AND WHAT IF PEOPLE REACTED IN A WAY THAT ODDS ARE THEY WOULDN'T IN THAT COMPLETELY DIFFERENT SITUATION?!?!

This is why we shouldn't let women write about sports.

I really do know nothing about football, and don't follow the game at all, even the memes. So, could the community of Fark please actually tell me why this meme exists? Why do we hate Tim Tebow?

Because he is a born again Christian and isn't ashamed of it? Because he isn't in the closet? Because he is an overrated QB that should not be in the pros?

I mock Tebow because he's a shiatty qb and is as dumb as that article. His frequent religious outpouring crosses over into the realm of absurdity. He deserves to be mocked.

Pretty much this. I don't care what your religion is, when you bombard the world with it, even people of the same faith are eventually going to hate you.

TFA: "From his advocacy of abstinence to his infamous "You will never see another team play this hard" speech at Florida, it is like he is too good to be true. He is too nice, and thereby we want him to trip up so we can feel better. We want him to be revealed as a hypocrite, and when that fails to happen, we settle for gleefully celebrating his failures on the football field."

1) She conveniently omits that he appeared in an anti-abortion ad paid for by Focus on the Family and broadcast during the Super Bowl. It ran on the same network (CBS) that rejected a previous ad from the United Church of Christ which welcomed gay and lesbian members who were turned off by more conservative bigoted churches.

If you can't see why someone who tries to bring positive publicity to Focus on the Family might be divisive for non-football reasons, you might be derpy enough to write for Fox Sports.

2) No one likes overhyped, underperforming athletes. Matthew Stafford is a year younger than Tebow, having a much better season, and I believe there was a missing persons report filed some point this season, because no one had heard Matthew Stafford's name in weeks. If I could pick a rookie QB tomorrow to have on my team for his career, I'd pick Cam Newton or Andy Dalton long before Tebow.

I will now pause for people to say "Andy who?" Seriously. He's a real guy. He even completes 60% of his passes. He's probably a Christian too, but maybe he read Matthew 6:5 or something.

Hmmmm... I have an open mind. I'm interested in reading this article and see the perspective offered here.

What if Tim Tebow were a Muslim?

OH FOR FARK'S SAKE.

2011-12-01 10:21:05 AM
I mock him because he's a horrible quarterback. I also mock him transitively because of his fervent fans who only like him because he talks about Jesus all the time, and think that somehow makes him an NFL quarterback.

As for the article, that was really stupid. Nobody has a problem with him kneeling or praying before/during/after games. Plenty of people do that already, or point to the sky, or make the sign of the cross after a TD, whatever. People don't like him because he takes it to a whole another level whenever he has a mic in front of his face. If a reporter asks him what he had for breakfast he'll still figure out how to fit God in there somewhere. I love my wife, but when my boss asks me about a project I'm working on I don't go on about how much I love my wife, I answer the question I was actually asked.

Especially because the article would then be:
Fox Sports would cut to Sean Hannity, so he can ask "Is Tim al-Tebo secretly plotting to blow up the Lombardi Trophy? Is it really OK for him to touch something called a 'pigskin'? Does he distribute the ball to different receivers as a form of Obama-socialism? I'm just asking questions."

2011-12-01 10:31:44 AM
what if tim tebow were a handicapped child in a wheelchair? would we still make fun of his throwing motion and general ill-fit for the position of nfl quarterback? would we still cheer when opposing players tackled him and then mocked him by pretending to crawl slowly back to an imaginary wheelchair?

i guess what i'm saying is that it's a shame that the special olympics doesn't focus as much on contact sports.

In other words, Tebow is a sport celebrity version of a threadjacking troll.

what if tim tebow were an insatiable pedophile, and every time he won a game, he knelt down on the field to sodomize a ten year old? would we all collectively laugh and smugly take funny pictures of our kids mockingly kneeling to UFIA their dolls? no, we'd call the f*cking police, because that's what any sane person would do after witnessing something like that.
you should all be ashamed of yourselves for mocking tim tebow. you are no better than someone who witnessed pedophilic rape and didn't call the authorities.

2011-12-01 10:47:34 AM
I was surprised when I learned that Troy Polamalu was really, really religious. When that story came out about that bible he lost and how upset he was about it, I learned a lot about him. I think the article I read said he even got special permission from the NFL to put a small cross on his jersey.

And I never would have known because he keeps it to himself. That to me is a sincere believer. It's not front and center of their personalities. I've always lived with the creed that the brighter the light, the darker the shadow. The more in your face someone is with their beliefs, it ALWAYS makes me think "I wonder what they're trying to hide."

Jen really needs to get a new beat. She's written this exact article at least 8 times, just switching up the words.

Tebow madness is worst madness. And I like the guy, I just wish he would shut up, and I wish everyone would shut up about him, other than how he manages on the field.

oh yeah! i hadn't realized that there was a recent example of a sports figure sodomizing children in front of a witness that didn't report the event to the police, lol.

Meh. I think it's pretty well established that the Detroit Lions are a bunch of assholes across the board. I think Tebow is a little goofy, but I have no ill will against the guy. His lays his love for Jesus on a little thick, but it's harmless, IMO.

Mariano Rivera is another example of a high-profile Born-again athlete that no one has a bad thing to say about. He makes headlines for giving tons of money to philanthropy, and making batters donate outs and bat fragments to the Mariano Rivera is Better Than You Fund. He wears a cross, and has an inspirational Bible verse inscribed in small print on his glove, in a place that he can see it, even if the fans can't. That's a little different from literally wearing it on your face, doing prayer celebration dances, and grabbing every microphone within 10 miles to yell "God did it!".

The MRIBTYF files its taxes under "highly involuntary philanthropy". You get a refundable credit for that, though I suspect it will end after 2012.

They also didn't star in a Superbowl ad claiming that abortion could prevent the next Tim Tebow from being born.

You have apparently never watched a Steelers game. Or maybe you had left the room to grab another beer when Polamalu was making the sign of the cross after EVERY friggin' tackle...or interception....or QB sack.....or TV timeout. Seriously??? What did you think that ritualistic gesture of touching his helmet, chest then shoulders actually was??? Adjusting his equipment?

2011-12-01 11:53:35 AM
If Tebow were a Muslim, he would not be a starting quarterback. He would not even have been drafted as a quarterback. He is here because of his Christian beliefs and his relentlessly (annoyingly) "positive"attitude. He is winning because the Broncos defense is playing great, great football.

Christians have no idea how offensive they are when they get indignant and offended by people who reject their B.S. Of course, having a chip on your shoulder and going through life with blinders on are key components of the Christian faith.

Hmm, Tebow against Vikes? Even though the Vikings are the worst team in their division, the NFC North is built to pass rush. Could be trouble. You might want to look for a safer option. Is Palmer available?

The league made Roethlisberger stop writing PFJ (Playing For Jesus) on his shoes a few years ago. He still has RFJ on his balls though.

I don't mock Tebow.

I mock Tebowians.

Tim-may, I like. Tebowians need to STFU and take lessons from their prophet.

I've yet to hear Tim-may whine like a little biatch about his treatment. Good FSM, you should hear the talk radio in Denver.

My son went to school with Tim Tebow. in fact he played intramural basketball with him. Tebow would come in the locker room after scrimmages and stare a little bit too long at my son's supple behind in the shower. He would then playfully snap it with a towel and when my shocked son turned around, Tebow had this evil and satiate like stare which would make the hairs on my sons ass stand on end. Tebow would then do the sign of the cross and go to his locker and masturbate. Hand to god.
