Either way I'm sure you guys are right that it was a human. It would just be hard as hell for a dog to discharge a shotgun. It is possible, in theory, for a dog with small enough paws to fit in the trigger guard, but exceedingly unlikely. Also if it happened, it would be with a gun laying on the ground and thus you'd be getting shot in the foot.

This was someone farking around with a gun that shot him. Perhaps, as the papers like to say, alcohol was a factor.
