House explained the delay in shutting off the engine by saying he was being bitten by mosquitoes, the lawsuit says

Uh-huh.

He sounds like a 1%er to me.

1%ers own insurance companies, and the government, which is the biggest insurance company of them all these days, when it comes to rich people losing stuff. He's just moderately well off, or was, soon he'll be in jail, thanks to the worst excuse i've ever heard.

Perhaps it was lupus.

Actually it happened in 2009.

Here is the video of it happening: (new window)

Letting the motor run for 15 minutes while the car was in the water was suspicious enough.

If you own a 1.2 million dollar car, you shouldn't get insurance. If you NEED insurance on a measly 1.2 M you shouldn't be buying a car that costs so much.

Yeah, I probably should have read the article and the thread before posting.

I knew there was something amiss when I saw the video back then. No seagull, no brakes, just straight up swerve.
Insurance might even consider hooking up those kids who taped it with a shag or something for helping them save a few mil.

What would kids do with an old 1970's shag carpet?

You'd think that anybody that could afford (well, maybe) a million dollar car could hire somebody to come up with a better story than the lame-ass deal about mosquitoes and seagulls.

2011-11-30 06:41:15 PM
He should have gone with the 'stolen and burned then lay low' technique he seems to have tried already. That had a chance of working out.

Bugatti Veyron that went swmming

It's obvious i was not involved.

A confidential informant told insurance investigators that House offered to pay the informant to steal the car and burn it so that House could collect the insurance money, the lawsuit says. House also offered to pay the informant to remain silent during the insurance investigation, the lawsuit says.

House you freaking moron! You have to actually PAY the informant!

House told police that he was retrieving his dropped cell phone from the floorboard and looked up to see a seagull heading straight for him.

Yeah, that story right there is sufficient grounds for the insurance company to deny the claim.

2011-11-30 06:59:42 PM
I hope the insurance company (and I hate them all) tells the owner to go f**k him/herself and they get a total loss. That would be nice. Then again, I'm a bastard.

I don't think he really does. Hence the stupid idea to commit insurance fraud on a $1.2 million car

That video is awesome. The guy just ran off the side of the road and couldn't get control back. There are no seagulls in that video. He's lucky there was a body of water there instead of a cliff or ravine or oncoming traffic. Sucks to be you dude but don't try to make somebody else pay for your own carelessness.

People who have enough money to buy million dollar cars get that much money precisely because they do stuff like insure they're expensive toys.

Someone once said, "If you have to ask, you can't afford it? Bullshiat. I can afford it because I do things like ask."

My buddy SWORE that his friends recorded that video outside jacksonville fl... He played it like five times and was "sure" that it was their voices on the tape...

I think you missed the point just a bit - he bought $2.2 mil worth of insurance on a $1.2 mil car, then tried to total it and collect the payment. Cool $1 mil profit.

What about deprecation? Surely it couldn't be worth more than a couple of $100K! Tons of them in used car lots here. They can't give them away! Autotrader dissed the floormats!

I remember reading that this guy was some kind of exotic car dealer or something and has pulled this type of scam several times before. He would wreck the cars, collect the insurance money, then buy them back from the insurance companies, fix them and resell.

bit by mosquitoes?
I feel your pain brother, a few years back I totaled my truck when I accidentally dropped a Tootsie Pop into my lap.

Looks like that's what they're doing, and furthermore they're charging him with fraud, and furtherfurthermore it looks like they're probably right.

so at the very least he's admitting to not paying attention to the road
