Those KKK guys, such messy eaters. They decided to make their uniforms out of hotel napkin textile.

If you found Klan robes in your grandfather's attic after he died, would you think to yourself: "Hey, these belong in a museum!"?

Perhaps in the Kluttered Koat Kloset? Klose enough.

2011-11-30 04:17:03 PM
Senator Byrd has only been dead a year and his ungrateful family is already selling all his shiat.

What else would he do? Wear it as a Halloween costume? Burn it and pretend it didn't happen? Seriously, if we make concerted efforts to paper over the shameful parts of history, it will only pave the way for it to be repeated.

OK, that's just wrong.

Maybe, because in a museum they can show off how stupid the outfits were and how more stupid the reason behind wearing them. At least its better than keeping it, and people stumble upon and I think your a KKK member.

It's too bad they couldn't add "and Technology" or something to the name: it would be the SMAAHT.

I would certainly dispose of them to hide a shameful family secret. I would never contribute them to a longlasting exhibit on bigotry with my grandfather's name attached. I don't think we should forget the crimes of the past, but I don't want my family associated with them.

Is there a story on that? Those could be dress boots with lace covers. Cross burnings were formal occasions.

When I learned places like Ken's Kar Kare and Kerry's Kut & Kurl were fronts for the klan I had an epiphany. As a young teen I was chosen to go to "summer camp" by the Koon Kibitzer Klub. It was a local sheet/hunt club and of course I went. The googles said they are now disbanded.

I have slave owners and Confederate soldiers in my family history. I'm not ashamed. I didn't do anything.

I think if I found these sorts of items in some old family trunk, I would consider donating them to an exhibit discussing racism as an act of righting the wrongs of the past.

I shouldn't have to apologize for something I didn't do, but I should try to make sure that people are aware of the atrocities committed long ago so that they don't happen again.

Gives me a great deal of power, I think.

I don't know, one would thank that a terrorist group that oppressed and murdered African-Americans with impunity for decades would be a relevant part of African-American history.

A couple days ago my immigrant coworker used kkk in an IM and I had to tell her what that meant and why it wasn't a good thing. Real proud of my country that day.
