Since moving to Texas, I've noted that no one east of California can make a decent burrito.

Despite being in a shiatty area, Taqueria Cancun on Market St is my favorite place for burritos in SF.

Yes, that is a homeless person sleeping in front of the store. Yes, that happens a lot.

I love those "WTF" police reports. I have a pic around here somewhere of one in my old college newspaper. Two suspects were chased by police after trespassing onto the football field at 2am. They took off their backpacks and jumped the fence and disappeared into the night, but upon closer inspection the backpacks were full of live chickens. I always wondered what they were going to do on the football field with live chickens at 2am.

I love all the article comments defending the guard who circumvented security to bring his prisoner buddy a burrito. The concern isn't the burrito. It is the fact that he smuggled something into prison. Could easily have been a dry run for contraband.

A clarification, if you will. Basically, I categorize Americanized Mexican food into three distinct categories:

- California Mex
- New Mexican Mex
- Tex Mex

Each is good in it's own way but definitely different in taste and approach. For example, New Mexican Mex has more use of potatoes and excellent use of green chilis and the red Carne Adobado (sp). California Mex has excellent burritos as mentioned before especially ones made for plates with meat gravy and green chilis on top. Tex Mex is what I've been eating for a while and is notable for grilled entrees especially chicken and fish and my latest favorite dive the Taqueria Jaliscos that have popped up everywhere with really cheap and good food.

Of course, none of this resembles real Mexican food with real mole and more tripe and organ meat than the average stoner American could deal with. Dude? Wait! What? Let's go to Del Taco and get a combo burrito.

Copy that and agreed. Felt the same way after first moving to ABQ. Could get lots of great burritos, couldn't find that hole in the wall California burrito. Especially the kind of place that has the little condiment stand right off the counter full of jalapenos, hot pickled radishes and carrots. I've grown quite used to New Mex Mex but when in California over the recent holiday I went directly to the hole in the wall day one. great stuff.

And tie down the bed covers to keep them from floating near the ceiling all night.

You think prison guards who sneak shiat in to give to the prisoners should be given second chances?

It'll be nice when there's enough info out there to make better divisions.

Indeed. Have you read any of O'Brein and Lyman's analyses of Clovis? They're very interesting.
