This has been true for 20-odd years, though certainly much more so now.

2011-11-30 02:15:57 PM
So people think China is communist and ALSO are worried about them taking us over in the free marketplace?

Sigh...

2011-11-30 02:28:25 PM
Don't tell the neoconservative pundits that. I don't know what they'd do if they couldn't begin and end a sentance with "COMMUNIST SOCIALISM!"

2011-11-30 02:29:22 PM
They'll always be Chicoms to me!

/Damn you, Nixon!

You just don't understand how sneaky those commies are. The have plans within plans within plans (within warm flour tortillas). I mean, look, they even managed to get a Socialist Kenyan Muslim (who goes to a christian church) in the White House! Go ahead, try to explain to me how they aren't conniving little pinkos!

2011-11-30 02:30:26 PM
Is it still cool to say Chicoms in Fark threads like you're in some deep cover intelligence shiat?

2011-11-30 02:31:25 PM
True enough. I haven't spent much time in China but the one time I was in Shanghai it was very common for the people there to regard the Communist Party much like people around here regard the Republican Party. Insane politicians with batsheet stupid ideology that unfortunately has too much influence on official policy, but at least they no longer have total control.

2011-11-30 02:31:32 PM
China: We're Communists
Everyone Else: With all that free market stuff going on?
China: Yeah, but nobody is that observant. It's mostly a purge and repress the Proletarians thing."

I guess Fascism is kinda out of style.

2011-11-30 02:33:26 PM
Which doesn't change the fact that they still oppress and brutalize their people and it certainly doesn't change the fact that they use left wing collectivism ideas.

Communism, a left wing ideology, has murdered more than 100 million people and is the single greatest evil to arise in the 20th century.

Well that just wasn't very subtle at all.

Which is why the capitalists who run large American corporations love to operate there.

In China, instead of tiger they say lao hu - for earth they say kun.
Boy, those Chinese! They have a different word for everything.

2011-11-30 02:36:54 PM
I don't think China was ever Communist (at least by textbook definition that is).

Is it wrong that I heard the voice of Frank Burns in my head when I read that?

Religion has killed more.

Anyone who thought that China was communist in the last 50 years doesn't understand fascism.

2011-11-30 02:39:33 PM
@Randomjsa:

The repression is now being done in the name of right wing ideology, correct?

2011-11-30 02:39:48 PM
There has never been, and probably never will be, a truely communist country.

2011-11-30 02:40:04 PM
So they'll have all the worst elements of capitalism, without any of the political freedoms that are supposed to go with it.

2011-11-30 02:40:17 PM
Yet another example of a country that just didn't have enough communism, or didn't do it the right way or something.

2011-11-30 02:40:21 PM
DamnYankees: This has been true for 20-odd years, though certainly much more so now.

This. The younger generation flat out says. One of my chinese professors when I studied over there pretty much spent his entire class talking about how the younger generation is fully aware that they are communist in name only, they have huge environmental issues they need to resolve before they start really considering becoming a superpower and they need to find a way to embrace modern technology beyond the censorship of today's government.

/Haven't heard from him in a long time...

No wonder the GOP wants to start a trade war with China, the Chinese are even pirating their ideology.

Interesting, my Chinese exchange students are very much afraid to criticize the regime. I don't buy this headline.

A socialist by any other name woud still stink.

The word 'Republic' in PRC is also a little misleading.

DamnYankees: This has been true for 20-odd years, though certainly much more so now.

China is not communist. It will be called "communist" when their economy collapses. China will be used as an example as to why SS should be managed by Goldman Sachs and Medicare should be privatized. You heard it here first.

Kind of like capitalism in America?

CokeBear: So they'll have all the worst elements of capitalism, without any of the political freedoms that are supposed to go with it.

Freedoms have nothing to do with capitalism. Capitalism has embraced things like ridged classes, slavery, repression, etc. Freedom has never been a guaranteed part of the package.

What about abortion? 40 million in the US alone in the last 35 years. (I don't think you're one of the "clump of cells = breathing human" type, though.)

What about capitalism? If communism can murder people, what about all the people killed or denied extended life by all the capitalists? Surely we have to have passed 100M by now - after all, WWI was fought between capitalists (US, UK, Prussia, Russia before the revolution) and WWII had mostly capitalists (if we include Germany, that's LOTS of dead at the hands of capitalists), Vietnam was the US (and France), Iraq, Iran/Iraq (which we were peripherally involved in), the Triangle Shirtwaist fire/Bhopal (and other failures of laissez-faire capitalism)...

But you keep painting. Eventually, that brush will be broad enough to cover the whole world.

Yes China is a Corporatism and Fascist government now. It has been so for a very long time.

2011-11-30 02:48:27 PM
Correct to several scribes here. The correct description of China now is fascism, hidden behind some populous wall paper. Indeed, corporatism is evermore creeping into the governments of many countries. It's a race to the bottom with fascism being the force in China and the US. It's already fascism in royalty-rich middle east kingdoms.

/Wonder if I can apply to other countries under political asylum.

Hell you can find nut balls claiming that the 2008 meltdown was because the american economy was too communist.

I *have* spent a fair amount of time in China in varied locations. Married a Chinese girl, too. I've met a lot of Chinese people and lot were members of the Communist Party. However, I'm pretty sure I've never met (enough to get to know) an actual Chinese communist. All bring-a-tear-Mamma's-eye capitalists, always looking out for number one.

True communism goes against human nature. China's rulers have all but completely given up the facade of practicing communism, but aint'a gonna budge on hanging onto their power.

CokeBear: So they'll have all the worst elements of capitalism, without any of the political freedoms that are supposed to go with it.

It was how the ruling elite paid off the masses. You can have all the consumerism you want just don't fark with our authoritarian government.

Harry Freakstorm: China: We're Communists

It's not a "Free market". You have private business witch are in partnership with the government that get preferential treatment while all others are treted worse it's Corporatism. Also Unions are illegal under China. Employees have almost no rights. Companies forcing employees to work including beating them to work is actual pretty common in china.

2011-11-30 02:51:10 PM
Corvus: Yes China is a Corporatism and Fascist government now. It has been so for a very long time.

And it was just exactly that before the communist/cultural revolution starting in the late 20s.

China is like what the republicans are doing to America. Slave labor and a bunch of rich koch's ruling over all the suckers.

Sorry, I meant to quote randomjsa. I always find it odd that the militia types who fear we'll soon be living in a police state governed by martial law are the ones cheering as the police beat nonviolent protesters in the streets for protesting.

Isn't the Government still heavily invested in the businesses in that country. Especially when it comes to banking, oil, and auto manufacturing.

I know GM is big in China but don't they have a partnership with the Chinese Government to operate there?

/Honest questions I'm not sure about
