Wernher von Braun was a Nazi, yes. He also married his cousin. So we might be chasing the wrong lead here.

I already saw this fact on Nat Geo. Sometimes one's intellect outweighs his/her political beliefs in efficacy.

my grandmother used to crack jokes about jews.

when her son in law(the dumber of my two uncles on that side of the family) got offended about how a joke was anti-semetic, she responded:

what, anti-semetic? how can i be anti-semetic, i'm a jew.

/jewish enough to have gotten on one of the last trains out before the gestapo shut down the train station. she had some really amazing stories about hobo'ing across europe to get away, and finally making it onto a passenger liner headed for america.

XKCD? To display the brilliant, witty musings of its creator, obviously. Personally, I think it sucks donkey balls about 95% of the time, with the other 5% split evenly between "meh" and "actually funny"

Once upon a time, the site was a tad more amusing. I believe the original contributors have moved on. Formerly, they might lampoon two or three weak XKCD strips in a row, but also take a moment to praise those they felt were solid.... or at least not waste too much time trying to tear apart the ones that were merely 'meh'.

The current group (who I stopped following months ago) are just trying way to hard.

This strip. Normally I do get xkcd. Normally it hits my funny bone, too.

But what does this want to tell me?
That non-Nazis are stupider than the Nazis?
That you can't just take over a little bit of Nazi knowledge, but that you always have to go full Nazi when you do that?

And not even the tooltip is of any help this time.

'Cause we all know that "Ctrl-Alt-Del" is such an obscure reference that I must have gotten it from the comic. That's some good police work there, Lou.

Really dude, no need to get all butthurt because I find a comic strip you like to be overly pretentious and gratingly unfunny most of the time. Also, It would have had more punch if I actually liked the strip you mention, but I've never followed it, so whatever.

I've seen the comics go from lovelorn to remorseful (his series about the family member with cancer was poignant) to downright hilarious in an in-joke way that saw me laughing crazily where others would simply give a o_O.

People get the mistaken impression that the XKCD comic du jour is for THEM. I see it as whatever stream-of-consciousness stuff comes from Munroe's head, and if we get it, wonderful. If we don't, or disagree with it, that's our own farking problem.

/All this comic told me was that we should respect German engineering regardless of the historical context.
//If Von Braun was still a "Nazi," he wouldn't have left in the first place.

Sounds to me like you hate the comic for being popular.

If you think it's "gratingly unfunny most of the time" why do you keep reading it? Jeez, if I hurt myself doing something, generally I stop doing that thing.

See, as someone who has been looking at getting a notebook for a few months now, I'm getting a kick out of the LCD strip.

Yeah, 'cause that's what I said - "I read it all the time"

Oh wait, no, I didn't, you invented that part in your head. What I actually said was "I think it sucks donkey balls about 95% of the time." I can understand how someone who is not very bright, or who simply wanted to argue for the sake of arguing, could interpret that to mean "I've read all of the strips and continue to do so." But I'm pretty sure that anyone who is not a sub-literate moron understood what was actually meant. Here, let me phrase it in a way that even sophist dickheads and butthurt XKCD fans can understand:

"In my experience, which includes a fairly large sample of strips that have been posted on Fark, posted on the cubicles of my coworkers, posted on the refrigerators of my friends, posted to the blogs and facebook pages of relatives, friends and acquaintances, posted on the popular blogs I read, as well as some other places, even including the XKCD website itself on occasion, I think XKCD sucks donkey balls about 95% of the time, with the other 5% split evenly between "meh" and "actually funny"

Yeah, that's pithy. I'll just post that every time I discuss XKCD.

The only people I'm crapping on are the douchebags who insist on attacking me for expressing the simple opinion that I find the strip mostly unfunny. But hey, you think whatever you need to think to get you through, ok?
