(Jalopnik) Strange Well, who wouldn't want to see a music video recreating the 1970 24 hours of Le Mans using slot cars?   (jalopnik.com) divider line 18

There was a place back in Anaheim Cali that was a slot car mecca, back in the day. Slot Car City. I loved that place. Spent every last nickle from pop bottles and whatever there. I had so many cars, it took 3 big cases to carry them all. Little Red Wagon, that popped awesome wheelies, had a Chaparral Custom with a working back wing that deflected when you let off the gas, and a Lotus Maclaren with a homemade mini copper tube chassi and Jap aluminum cased motor, ran like a scalded ass ape. Everything to scale.....25 cents for 10 minutes on 1 of 3 big tracks. Each one 12 lanes wide....If I ever get stupid rich, I'm gonna open a place like that and race slots all day.

That was pretty cool.

Only done real slot cars (not those home sets) a few times. They were awesome.

When I was a kid my brothers and I built an AFX track with model railroad on a plywood table, about 8'x4' or so. Paper mache mountains and terrain, the whole bit. It was awesome. Alas, this was before home video so no video, or even photographic, evidence remains.

I remember my older brother would save his money to buy a Super G-Plus car while I would spend my money as soon as I could afford a regular AFX car. Then I would lose every race. That's how I learned quality over quantity lessons.
