After the Honduras fiasco, DeMint should keep his farking nose out of Latin America.

Oh, and stop being a one man ideologue roadblock. And come clean about how he's The Family's thug in Congress.

Small Government strikes again!

"The Senate should reject her nomination when her recess appointment expires at the end of this Congress and force the president to appoint a new nominee who will respect the pro-family values upheld by the people of El Salvador."

pro-family = pro-bigot

2011-11-30 10:06:43 AM
Oh DeMint, will you ever learn?

i don't know about Jim DeMint (Bigot asshole) but my definition of "family" doesn't include bigotry.

2011-11-30 10:13:48 AM
Just suck a dick, DeMint. You'll feel better.

2011-11-30 10:13:56 AM
Another prime example of why the Senate needs to lose their ability to place holds of any kind on judicial or ambassadorial nominations. The nominee should be called into a hearing/interview if requested by the Senate, then subject to an immediate vote.

2011-11-30 10:21:27 AM
But you don't understand -- she'll be in El Salvador!

/I protest that the Ambassador to Antarctica has views I dislike. Please keep her in the United States to annoy me further.

2011-11-30 10:30:21 AM
I also don't appreciate that DeMint thinks he represents American values. He represents Christian Dominionist values.

2011-11-30 10:37:58 AM
So essentially, because he hates gay people he's letting foreigners control the American government.

2011-11-30 10:39:26 AM
Yup. We should totally show them other countries that we can be bigoted and hateful as much as they are.

The sad thing? He imagines this to be him taking the moral high ground...

2011-11-30 10:41:21 AM
Since when does America bow to the wishes of central American countries?

He doesn't care if we extend American influence. He only cares about extending Christian influence.

Dereliction of office IMHO. He has no place in the Legislature.

Remember, 99 senators are not enough, if #100 is willing to invest the time and energy into mucking up the process.

2011-11-30 10:51:24 AM
This is exactly what the filibuster was designed for.

Menendez and Sen. John Barrasso (R-WY) were initially the only senators allowed to review Aponte's FBI file, but DeMint eventually got permission to view the file. He said at today's meeting that the file was incomplete and that it hadn't been updated since 1998.

So he's leaking classified information? Arrest him.

2011-11-30 10:52:09 AM
So, DeMint is a narrow-minded, self-righteous, bigoted douchebag

/and this surprises anyone... how?

Since 20% of Republicans decided that their own brand of dogma trumps the laws this country was founded on, the wishes of their fellow citizens, and the very bonds of reality itself.

So if Senator DeMint believes that US Ambassadors should have the same views as the residents of the country they serve in, will he be opposing the appointment of Christians to serve as Ambassadors to Muslim nations?

Bladel: Small Government strikes again!

Yeah this BS stuff makes me want to strangle all those Republicans who say "I vote Republican because they believe in small government". That is the biggest piece of shiat. They only believe in lax regulation for businesses, they don't give a shiat about "small government" in what people actually do in their lives.

2011-11-30 11:59:51 AM
This is one nomination of what I believe at last count was some where north of 400 that the Republicans in the Senate have been holding up. There are so many "acting directors" and recess appointments in the government right now as to make much of the federal bureaucracy effectively dysfunctional.

2011-11-30 12:00:03 PM
Let's not be silly. He's holding up the nomination because he's GOP and the President is a Democrat. If she weren't anti-hatemonger they would have used something else to justify blocking her. Like her hair color. Or her favorite pizza toppings.

The GOP is, was, and will always be "keep us in charge or we will punish you by farking things up for no reason".

If you could attach turbines to the Founding Fathers in their graves, you could immediately solve all of the USA's energy problems.

"Ms. Aponte's decision to publish an opinion piece hostile to the culture of El Salvadorans, presents even more doubts about her fitness for the job," DeMint wrote in a response on the Human Events conservative news and opinion website. "The Senate should reject her nomination when her recess appointment expires at the end of this Congress and force the president to appoint a new nominee who will respect the pro-family values upheld by the people of El Salvador."

Remember guys, teabag republicans are only concerned about taxes.

Nonsense, I'm confident that DeMint speaks for all of El Salvador. He seems totally qualified.

Jesus Christ, Republicans are ridiculous...

"Uphold the pro-family values upheld by the people of El Salvador".

So someone who supports equal treatment under the law for homosexuals is somehow "anti-family"?

What a bigoted piece of shiat DeMint is.

Government small enough to fit in your wallet (PATRIOT Act looks at all applications for bank accounts), your bedroom, your reproductive organs (interestingly, we haven't heard much on the topic of male birth control/sterilization from the GOP, save for condoms), your head (religion), and your convenience/grocery store (drug law), but too small to regulate bodies of water.

// this is a tired meme, the "small" government that the GOP prefers
// does anyone still believe it?
// they want "ineffective" government in certain sectors, while our 45th President Jesus Capitalist Whitename decrees all children must imbibe a certain brand of baptismal wine

From what we know of Republicans, I imagine DeMint is the type who likes taking it up the ass from shaven Hispanic men while crying about how his daddy didn't let him wear dresses or rape a dog. All Republicans have something seriously wrong with them, and DeMint's focus on LGBT issues makes me wonder exactly what is wrong with him. He's an ugly shell of a human being, so I imagine he's a crossdresser who enjoys the feeling of lace panties against what is laughably called his penis. And I imagine that, in the privacy of his own dog cage at home (while his wife overdoses on more wine and opiates), that he spanks himself while crying about all the years he's wasted on the pursuit of money and heterosexual sex that he will never, never find arousing.

Then he comes out and runs for office and wants to world to burn, just because he can't get over daddy telling him to cool it on the Shirley Temple wigs. And everyday he looks in a mirror, DeMint has two reactions: to smash the mirror and cry, and to beat up a small kid and rape them because that's all his inferior Republican mind can handle when it comes to personal reflection.

Jim DeMint: "You can't be a fiscal conservative and not be a social conservative" Link (new window)

"She has done a solid job as ambassador," Kerry said today, pointing out that under Aponte's tenure, El Salvador became the first Latin American country to send troops to aid NATO forces in Afghanistan.

History's. Greatest. Monster.

2011-11-30 12:11:27 PM
Jim DeMint? You mean the TeaBagger hero?

You know the TeaBag movement ... the one that claims to be party independent (who always vote Republican) movement that's about fiscal conservativism (but mostly cares about social issues).

2011-11-30 12:11:39 PM
But I'm sure De Mint would have had no problem with the family values in funding Death Squads like Reagan did back in the 1980's.

2011-11-30 12:13:11 PM
Meanwhile, SFRC approved the nominations of Mike McFaul to become ambassador to Russia and Roberta Jacobson to become assistant secretary of state for Western Hemisphere affairs. Two Republicans voted against the McFaul nomination: Bob Corker (R-TN) and James Risch (R-ID).

Corker didn't object to McFaul's personal qualifications for the position, but rather used the nomination to press for administration assurances that the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA), which includes the Y-12 National Security Complex in Tennessee, will be fully funded for Fiscal Year 2012. He told The Cable today that he was working with the administration on the issue.

I swear I've read this before. Regardless, this is an example of the nomination process being so f'd up.

Jim DeMint is an asshole. Now, he's not in the Strom-Thurmond class of asshole yet, but he will be there soon enough.

Fart_Machine: But I'm sure De Mint would have had no problem with the family values in funding Death Squads like Reagan did back in the 1980's.

Well, we certainly know he's not of the Tom DeLay mindset, where ol' Tommy was taking Abramoff-funded trips to Saipan (which is part of America) and pushing for corporations there to keep the right to force women to have abortions (so that they can keep working at the factory, natch) - because guest workers in Saipan are not covered by US minimum-wage and other labor laws.

So at least DeMint has principles? Demented and sad, but still principles.
