If the Act had meaningful changes that were affordable and not just a bunch of social welfare subsidies built off the back of middle-class America, we might show a little more interest.

Not a surprise. The government should put out commercials with the facts. All people hear now is wharrgarbl on TV and the radio about "socialism" and "Obamacare" and mandatory this and that. The general public doesn't even understand it. They just repeat what they hear conservatives say about it.

Like what will happen if you refuse to buy it and refuse to pay the fines levied?

I'm pretty happy about the "no copay for preventive treatment" thing.

If I was a member of the party of personal responsibility, I wouldn't have a problem with this. Not having insurance could be catastrophic. You'd be an idiot not to have it.

Would you tell a new gun owner "Hey it's your right as an American not to have know any gun safety!"

This is good. Now when republicans try to repeal it we can just say they're trying to make it easier for insurance companies to kick you off your plan.

Yes, let people know what will happen if they try to screw those of us who are responsible enough to pay our own way.

Are you saying that every person that earns income files a return?

My point is that when seat belt laws were passed, we were told that there would not be fines for choosing not to put one on in a car. After a few years, the government started to threaten the states if they did not ramp up enforcement. Now there are fines for not wearing seat belts.

The last unanswered question is, "How many years will it take before the teeth are put into the enforcement of choosing not to purchase insurance?".

You may now return to your defense of all things government.

My real concern isn't the government compelling us to protect ourselves, but rather why we aren't letting the gene pool thin itself out.

Ok, Nancy. Now that the bill has passed we can learn what's in it. I want you to sell me on it. Give me the benefits of the plan. How it will save me, my employer, the population as a whole and the federal government money while providing the same or better care than I have now. Please cite specific sections of the bill and the final rulings of the regulating bodies of each provision.

That's not possible, so what's the point? Nothing I say, nothing anyone would say, and no amount of facts would ever convince you to support it.

They should, if they don't want to get audited. Even if they owe no taxes.

No, that's only relevant when the CBO's analysis is consistent with the right-wing worldview. Since the CBO consistently found that "Obamacare" would save billions of dollars AND cover 32 million currently uninsured people, it must obviously be untrue.

And the CBO's analysis of the Republican attempt to repeal Obamacare? That one ADDS hundreds of billions of dollars to the deficit. Thus, their analysis is clearly incorrect there as well.

Have we added "The Congressional Budget Office" to the omnibus list of things that hate Republicans?

kronicfeld: I heard in Canada you have to pay to park at a hospital. THANKS OBAMACARE.

I don't understand why Canada doesn't do away with their universal healthcare. It's widely perceived by conservative American AM radio hosts, conservative American politicians, and conservative Americans in general to be an utter failure.

So the question remains: Why does Canada continue to use this broken healthcare system when it is so painful to so many Americans?

You're well baby checks are once a month? Our pediatrician does them once every three months the first year, then at 18 and 24 months.

"You've heard about the controversies within the bill, the process about the bill, one or the other. But I don't know if you have heard that it is legislation for the future, not just about health care for America, but about a healthier America, where preventive care is not something that you have to pay a deductible for or out of pocket. Prevention, prevention, prevention-it's about diet, not diabetes. It's going to be very, very exciting. But we have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it, away from the fog of the controversy."

Meanwhile, the text of the bill was avaliable to anyone who wanted to read it.
