I can't stand to watch or listen to this guy... but I always got the feeling that he was more 'motivational speaker' than 'tv preacher'... anything good that happens is because of god... he seems to skip over quoting directly from the bible and sticks with his 'down home' wisdom which consists of folksy but generic sayings about god and goodness and happiness and prosperity (ad nauseum)

A friend of mine dragged me to Osteen's "church" several years ago (not long after his father died). Nothing seemed real. It was like Cirque du Soliel with no stunts or even an interesting topic. It was just...noise and phoneyness. When it came time for tithing, my friend pulled one of the church deposit envelopes out, put a check in it and wrote her personal Lakewood Church account number on the envelope. I asked her why who was giving money would matter and she didn't have an answer. She asked if I wanted to put money in her envelope. Uh, no, thanks. They don't look like they need any extra money...unless they're handing it directly over to jesus or something.
