Would have been better if you kept Obama's line without alteration.

Submitter, people with food stamps wait in the same precise lines that people with hard cash wait in.

Also, most states have adopted a debit card rather than actual stamps.

In short, your headline stinks, and shows a consistent and thorough disregard for reality.

The state increased the income requirements from 130 percent above the federal poverty level to 185 percent in last year, meaning a family of four with an annual income of $41,364 is now eligible. The state has also streamlined the application process and launched a public awareness campaign over the past couple of years.

Oh, and:

In the last twelve months, New Jersey has let go of over 26,000 state and local government workers. The Garden State is one of many states letting public sector employees go to balance their recession-battered budgets. The outspoken governor Chris Christie has drawn national attention for, as he bragged on television once, leading the nation in public sector layoffs by percentage. - Source: CUNYontheEconomy

The state has also streamlined the application process eliminated meaningful fraud-prevention

FTFthe writer, who seems to be surprisingly naive as to the traditions of New Jersey state government.

More in your Romeroesque lead graf of the day:

With more than half the applications for federal emergency food assistance coming from Burlington County households that did not sustain damage in Hurricane Irene, county officials are concerned the food-stamp relief program is rife with fraud.

That's just the Irene-related fraud, but if you think that kind of a thing is an isolated incident...in New Jersey...I have some lovely pine barrens to sell you.

I wonder how many people would claim benefits if the government provided actual nutritious food to the hungry/poor, instead of an easily-gameable food-stamp program.

Yeah, and I'm one of them. Didn't have much of a choice.
When I became disabled, I needed all the help I could get.

The odd part was when my SS/Disability came in, they told me I made too much money for food stamps and brought me down to $12 a month.

I make about $900 a month in Disability. That's apparently too much for food stamps..

I'm sure Christie isn't "food insecure"...

That can't be right. How do you even have 26,000 state employees in NJ to lay off. How many employees are left?

I'm pretty sure that if he doesn't have food in his direct line of sight, he starts to get insecure.

That's outrageous. A family of four in NJ is probably rich enough to have a refrigerator.

This is just a reality. During the housing boom, property taxes were through the roof, and state governments expanded along with the increased revenue. Now that that revenue is gone, states need to make realistic decreases in payrolls to balance their budgets.

So they made it easier to get on food stamps during a huge downturn, and the numbers have gone up. Ok.

But then I was: NOOOO!! DAMN YOU, CHRISTIE! If we can't slip more of our operatives into government positions, then how can we bring forth our vast, leftist, socialist Xanadu?! Luckily we're getting more folks on the dole though, so we can suck that teat nice and hard. And that Christie sure has big ol' teats.

Uh... that's completely wrong. You're in NJ? That would put you at 100% of the poverty level; you would absolutely be eligible.... unless you had other assets (car, house, etc) that may have disqualified you.

Budget changes for the state of New Jersey, fiscal year 2013:

Dept. of State: - 4% for lay offs of additional personnel, especially union workers
Dept. of Motor Vehicles = + 2.4% to consolidate the two of the five windows open during peak hours, to just one open window Dept. of Noms - +35% for 13 extra deep fried turkeys, and an additional 1.4 tonnes to the yearly stipend of bacon, to be palletized and flown to the governor's mansion by the NJ Air National Guard

Indeed. If anyone in your extended family can afford the refrigerator at some point in their lives, past present or future, then obviously nobody needs government assistance and Obama is a kenyan muzzim.
