The mayor of Hamilton, Ontario, Canada hires a Senior Military Advisor, plans invasion of other Canadian cities you've never heard of

With the way geography is taught in the US, I'm surprised many Americans can even point out Canada on a map, let alone name any of our cities.

They don't need military conquest, Hamilton has been slowly usurping nearby Hamlets for years.

I can drive 1 min from my house Burlington, hit the Hamilton City sign, and then immediately fter that I hit Flamborough and then Waterdown, both are inside Hamilton.

As long as they take the Islanders, I don't care what they conquer.

FTA: "Hamilton always has been, historically, a military town. It continues to be. We had 400 people from Hamilton in Kandahar,"

Bullshiat. Hamilton hasn't been a military town since the cannons were last used, which was nearly 200 years ago. And that is now a tourist attraction.

What a waste of money. How about an environmental advisor to clean up the air and water?

Canada is just making sure that America doesn't corner the market on militarized police.

I'm sorry, what?

Yeah, this doesn't look like graft and patronage at all. These guys seem legit.

I'm a USAian and I know where Hamilton is. It's where the only flying AVRO Lancaster in North America is located. That baby sounds AWESOME taxiing, four Rolls Royce Merlins!

Well, if Fallout Canon is to be believed (and it is) we will be invading Canuckistan any time now.

And rounding the Labatt-lovers up and putting them in internment camps.

Since I'm from Buffalo, I know Hamilton well.

No, you're not getting your own NHL team, but feel free to keep coming down to Sabres games.

As a person from the States...

Went to Hanrahans a few times back in the late 80's.

Also there's the original Hamilton pump house from the 1800's. Beautifully cared for building and steam engines. The flywheels were we 14 tons I think and built in sections. There was no way to weld such a casting at the time. The sections fit together like jigsaw pieces & they used iron filings and horse urine to 'rust weld' the sections together.

Have been as far north as Temiskaming. Used to go to TO pretty often, but don't really care for big cities anymore. One of the folks from Temiskaming actually thanked me for the US' involvement in Iraq. Whenever I work in TO after 5pm I just drive until I find a small town to hang out in.

Kawartha Lakes are also beautiful.

Sure, a few military folks. But its not like there's more in Hamilton than other cities.. hell the only record its broken in relation to the military is that Hamilton seems to have the most anti-war groups than any other municipality in Canada.

That, but also that municipal governments have nothing to do with the military or detachments AT ALL, other than putting up little flags on gravestones during Remembrance Day.

Why do you think we're unfamiliar with our neighbor to the west? Why, I bet most of the people on my block even know most of the words to your national anthem.

/Hamilton is on my weather map.

I was born and raised in Hamilton. There's certainly a military tradition from the World Wars, but not so much in the last 60 years. Only the elderly really remember. Younger people have no awareness about that kind of thing.

I am new to Hamilton and I don't exactly understand why we need a Military Advisor? Maybe you guys could repave Barton St in the east end near my place so I don't lose a wheel this winter? Maybe somebody to fine out what happened to that dead dude lying in an alley a few blocks from my house yesterday morning?

Seriously though, I love living in Hamilton, and they appear to have some very good city services, but some roads are appalling (near my place of course), and I don't understand the need for a military advisor.

It's a little known fact that Hamilton is the center of defence against any American invasion through the Niagara frontier.

The Canadian reserve units will pull back in front of the invader, blowing bridges as they retreat. This will allow time to coordinate a hasty defence. Land Force Command is to set up positions on Burlington Heights with the units of 31 Canadian Battalion Group and whatever other reserve and reg force units can respond in time. The plan is to hit the Americans with artillery, air strikes and infantry assaults as they attempt to consolidate their hold on Hamilton. The intent is to deliver the so called 'bloody nose' to pause the advance and give the reg force time to react. Collateral damage and death toll on the civilian population is expected to be high.

After the shelling stops and the bodies lay amid the twisted rubble of a once proud city and it's iconic blast furnaces, the surviving Hamiltonians are expected to come out of their shelters, survey the bombed out mess through the clearing dust and smoke, and notice no appreciable differences in the look and character of their city.

Fallout Boy: At least Kitchener feels like a real city. Cambridge is just a collection of buildings.

Yeah it's actually kinda interesting how that works. I've lived in Kitchener for 8 years now, and until my wife started working there last year I don't think I'd been into Cambridge more than three or four times in that period. I still can't say I've ever gone to Cambridge for recreational reasons, while I've probably put more money into the Kitchener Waterloo restaurant & bar industry than I'd care to know at this point.

The fact that Cambridge really *isn't* a real city probably has something to do with it. It's a handful of small towns surrounding an industrial park, even 40 years after somebody decided to call it a city.
