Only 2,000 children go missing in the US every single day, so let's focus our resources on finding a farking bird.

Did they check the street meat vendor?

Then tell it right, COB! Pavarotti is a tenor, Paganini was a composer. Pagliacci is a parrot.

If your parrot goes down to Zucotti Park, well he better not go at night

His comment is on par with the idiots who demand that people need to start inviting the homeless to stay with them.

A guy goes into a pet shop and asks to buy a parrot.

The shop owner brings him over to the bird cages and shows him a parrot. "$5000 for this bird," said the owner.

"$5000! That better be a great bird!" said the guy.

"Well, look at the plumage. Look at that beautiful head. And, this bird can sing arias by Mozart and Handel. Amazing bird," replied the owner. He then pointed to the bird in the next cage, an even more brilliantly colored bird with beautiful plumage and bright eyes. "This one is for $8000."

"$8000! What, can he sing Wagner?" asked the guy, incredulously.

"Well, actually he can. He can sing all the parts of the Ring," answered the owner. Then he pointed at the next bird, an even prettier one with big ruffles and gleaming sheen on the feathers all around. "This one is $10,000. And before you ask why, it's because not only can this bird sing all Verdi and Puccini operas, he can also sing Madonna songs as well," said the owner.

"Very impressive. What about that scrawny bird there?" asked the guy, pointing to an aged shrimpy bird, almost balding with grey feathers if there were any.

"$25,000," said the owner.

"$25,000!??! That bird looks like it's half dead. What can he do, sing all operas on command?" exclaimed the guy.

"We're not sure what he can do, but all the other birds here call him maestro," said the owner.

Laugh, clown, at your shattered love.
Laugh at the grief that poisons your heart.

I've never been a fan of opera but I have always loved those lyrics.

Damnit I hate idiot bird owners. Feather Tethers aren't THAT expensive and even a clipped bird can take off if startled enough.

He might not find it. An awesome parrot like that probably found a new owner very quickly.

My red lored amazon parrot is also of the type that will go anywhere with me, but he isn't that talented. He does however jump off me to poop - the greatest parrot ever in my book. Also he is very big on cuddling and sticking his head into anything I am trying to eat.

Friend of mine had an opera singing parrot named "Vivaldi". When he'd go to work he'd leave a classical station on the radio running.

Don't give up. If the colony of wild quaker parrots that's living near my house has thrived since the 60's or 70's, I think this bird could make it through the winter. I hope she doesn't have to, but birds are a lot smarter than we give them credit for and there's warm-places-a-plenty in NYC and on Long Island.

But yeah. Feather tether, dude. Just because she hasn't flown away before doesn't mean she never will.

Hope she makes it home ok. Or to someone's home at least.

Those are monk parakeets. Their natural habitat is temperate, so they don't have problems with cold winters. They're rather cool to see in the dead of a Connecticut winter, flying over the frozen harbour.

Amazons are natural opera singers, especially yellow-napped and double yellow-heads. Hope they get her back.

spentmiles: Only 2,000 children go missing in the US every single day, so let's focus our resources on finding a farking bird.

Most of those kids are kidnapped by non-custodial parents, did you know that? It's not like they're being disappeared off the the streets by random strangers.

spyderqueen: Damnit I hate idiot bird owners. Feather Tethers aren't THAT expensive and even a clipped bird can take off if startled enough.

Yep. Training the bird to them can be a bit tricky, but it's worth it if you take the bird outside regularly, like these guys were. I remember one time a customer came in, white as a sheet. She'd been on her way to my store (a pet bird store), and stopped for coffee. Her (clipped) eclectus parrot took off from her shoulder, landed in the middle of a busy street. The first car couldn't stop in time and ran right over him. Fortunately he had landed right between the wheels, and the car passed over him without touching him. The second car managed to stop and blocked traffic until the owner ran up an got him. Clipped birds can still get lift if the wind hits them right.

It's easy for people to forget or not realize that not all parrots are tropical. One of mine is technically Andean. Hell, the Carolina Parakeet used to be found as far north as Wisconsin til it was hunted to extinction.
