I have to wonder what the beef is that 1/4 of our country has with Nelson Mandela.

Lincoln created the income tax.
Lincoln targeted US citizens with the US military without a trial.
Lincoln declared slaves free only through an executive order with no vote by congress.

Funny how these are now things Republicans all attack Obama about.

Jesus was a douchebag.

Mark 11:12-14, 19-25

The next day as they were leaving Bethany, Jesus was hungry. Seeing in the distance a fig tree in leaf, he went to find out if it had any fruit. When he reached it, he found nothing but leaves, because it was not the season for figs. Then he said to the tree, "May no one ever eat fruit from you again." And his disciples heard him say it.

So, the human incarnation of God Almighty has a tizzy and curses a fig tree because the tree doesn't have any fruit on account of it not being fruit season. If Jesus was so hungry, why didn't he magic up some figs out of thin air, instead of destroying a poor tree that was only following its normal life cycle?

fark Jesus.

No he did much much more minor things with his executive orders that now republicans are pretending are illegal for presidents to do.

Anybody else think that Lincoln might not rate so high if he hadn't have been killed right after the South surrendered?

According to that poll, I'm a 2 percenter.

2011-11-29 08:10:24 PM
The Republican party of Lincoln's time was the northern party and would soon morph into the modern day Democratic party as todays northern party, so Lincoln was actually a Democrat, not a Republican. Discuss.

If by that you mean the cold blooded genocidal maniac that hid behind the false flag of slavery to promote his northern war of aggression against a south tired of sending money north for no tangible value in exchange, then yes, sure, he's more popular than Jesus. Hell, he's more popular than Stalin. America's Stalin.

2011-11-29 09:21:28 PM
Well he did free the slaves, while Jesus was in favor of slavery.

2011-11-29 09:25:14 PM
And by stating slavery as a false flag for punishing the south for trading directly with England and France and not sending revenue north, I state northern population was no more moral than the south. Watch the final 30 minutes of the film Gangs of NY for a very vivid dramatization of this fact. They cared very little of the slave's plight, by and large, but used it as a rallying tool not very different from say a GWB declaring Iraq as hiding WMD's as a pretext to an invasion. Weak, contrived, but none the less lethal sauce.

The banks killed Abe because the greenbacks would have meant the US would be free of Europe's central banks. They did Kennedy for similar reasons.

Ted Kennedy's Brain Tumor: As he ought to be; the United States endures not because the martyrdom of Christ but that of Lincoln.

This is actually very very accurate.

Many in the South mourned Lincoln as well. They were tired of the war and wanted to get back to normal. We will never know how Lincoln would have handled Reconstruction, but he sure as hell would have handled in better, for BOTH sides, than Johnson and Grant ever could have. Sure there were many who cheered his death, but most realized he knew he planned to show compassion to the South and shooting a man in the back of the head in a dark theatre is just cowardly. Lincoln's murder steeled already Radicals like ignorant Johnson even harder against the South, so the South saw that the assassination hurt them as well. The murder made everyone realize Lincoln was the one holding everyone together, and made everyone believe, things would be so much better if only Lincoln was here. Kennedy's assassination... Pearl Harbor... September 11th... when this country is sad... it unites.

Semi-coherent rambling over.

2011-11-30 01:42:38 AM
Yeah, Lincoln was a tyrant who circumvented the Constitution! It's not like the Constitution had any special provisions for rebellion written into it or anything!

yogaFLAME: I have to wonder what the beef is that 1/4 of our country has with Nelson Mandela.

Given that Ghandi got a 27% disfavorable as well, I'm gonna go with "because 'disapprove' is a funnier answer" and/or "I don't actually know who that is" being the interpretation according to that one in four.

DarnoKonrad: The Gettysburg Address beats anything Jesus ever said.

In defense of theoretical Jesus, had such a person actually existed rather than been a collection of disparate myths crammed together to unify a cult religious movement that had declared like 15,000 kings of the jews, anything he said would not have been written down until 400 years after the date of his hypothetical death. So in principle the original text might have been pretty snappy in our imaginary alternate universe.

It's a good thing Abraham Lincoln didn't think slavery was too big to fail.

2011-11-30 04:41:52 AM
There cannot possibly be any rational reason for disapproving of Abraham Lincoln or George Washington.

2011-11-30 05:17:52 AM
Because at least Abe Lincoln existed, we didn't just find transcripts about him with some other name, like, say, 'Mithra' scribbled out and 'jesus' written in the margin next to it.

/problem?

2011-11-30 08:33:55 AM
Lincoln freed the slaves is the funniest thing I ever learned in school. In JR High; grade 7, I researched and found. Lincoln did not 'free' the slaves. He wanted to tax them like property. THAT'S what the war was about. Taxes. Remember that.

2011-11-30 08:37:05 AM
The Jesuits whacked Lincoln and the Vatican protected John Surratt who was an accomplice in the crime. This fact was down played in the media to prevent a real bloody revolution in the country, with the real Americans chasing every last Catholic from the land.
Considering Rome was already knocking off presidents back in the day it is safe to assume everything is completely under control now. I think it was the greenback thing but who really knows.
Too bad Americans don't understand real history because it wouldn't take long to fix their misguided direction back to the dark ages today. Papists in the house, Yo!
