Chickenshiat cops who shoot dogs should be destroyed.

Sleeping Monkey: Chickenshiat cops who shoot dogs should be destroyed.

No fan of cops by any means here, but when a pair of wild ass 65 bull mastiffs come lunging and biting at you, I suggest you just stand there with soothing words and see how far that gets you.

65 charging anything would be kind of terrifying

Pet owners who answer the door and fail to keep their pets from approaching visitors deserve to have their dogs shot. I use to deliver flowers. I can't tell you how many times dogs jumped on me or tried to bite me while their retarded owners stood their doing nothing but saying, "He won't bite". Don't let your pet to lunge at people, morons.

Wondering if this is the same lady whose pitbull savaged an Animal Control officer as she stood with the door wide open, then blamed the mauling on the officer (who, lady says, had no business knocking on her door).

/yeah, I know it's not

So the dog hit the 911 speed dial button and the pigs shot him for it?

Time for a barbeque- that pig needs to be gutted, stuffed and slowly turned over a spit for 24 hours.

What, was he saving his pepper spray for non-violent protesters or something?

in the officers defense, he thought the dog was an OWS protestor

I would like to see their description of "lunging and biting". My dog is over 60lbs and when someone comes over, she's so happy to see them that she lunges too.

2011-11-29 03:37:48 PM
So, did the cop go into the house and check if everything was alright after shooting the dog?

Yup. In this case, he did what he had to do.

Keep your damn dog under control and nobody will have to shoot it.

My friend is a police officer who two weeks ago was literally bit in the testicles by a dog and still managed to handle the situation without shooting it. (The 'boys' are fine, by the way. Clean through.)

Jake Havechek: Dog owners have a blind spot when it comes to their animal. They don't realize others might be intimidated when the dog throws a fit when it sees/smells a stranger.

Yet most don't feel the need to shoot to kill them.

How ever do postal workers, delivery people, and solicitors manage?

When your a hammer...

To be fair, there are actually dogs that won't bite. It's understandable to be cautious, though, I know our UPS guy wouldn't come out of his truck until we'd corralled the labs. Though I'm not sure how much of it was him worrying about being bitten and how much of it was worried about getting knocked over-- most labs wouldn't bite you if their life depended on it but they also love wrestling more than anything and tend to ram your legs to make you pay attention to them. Also hard to tell a young lab from an adult lab/pit bull mutt.

Well postal workers tend to avoid the whole block. I'm not kidding if they feel threatened by your dog they will stop delivering mail to the entire block.

That was the phrase used by the cop.

Cops NEVER paint a different picture of what happened after they shoot a person or their pet.

Cops shoot dogs. A LOT.

It really shouldn't surprise anyone. The type of person who would viciously beat a small, female bartender after being cut off is probably going to have a tendency toward cruelty to animals.

I'm just saying. I hate the pig cops as much as the next guy, but if I have a handgun, and your pooch lunges at me, he's getting a new hole between his ears.

Well, why wouldn't you have a handgun?

The pizza guy doesn't have the legal power to knock your door down while responding to an "emergency."

The mail carriers in my area carry dog biscuits with them. Seems reasonably intelligent to me. Act fearful or aggressive and a dog will pick up on it. Act friendly and most (not all granted) dogs will be quite pleased to see you.

Stating that you'd shoot a dog that lunged at you is pretty decent evidence that you're probably not ready to own a gun. It'd be akin to stating that if some jackass was tailgating you and making you somewhat nervous that you'd ram them with your car.

""The person at the house told us she thought the dogs accidentally dialed 911," said Dave Bristow, a sheriff's office spokesman. "We didn't come up with that. That's just what we were told."

Bristow said the dogs' owner opened the door and tried to squeeze out without letting her two 65-pound Bull Mastiff-Pit Bull mix dogs get out.

But the dogs forced their way out of the door and began aggressively lunging and trying to bite the deputy, Bristow said. Kelley retreated to avoid the dogs, but was forced to shoot one."

I guess dogicide by cop one way to get rid of an unwanted aggressive dog.

I was thinking something along those lines too... My 11 month old lab/shepherd mix is bigger than that.

That would tend to make me think that "lunging" may have been puppies going "YAY!!! NEW FRIEND!!!! LET'S PLAY, NEW FRIEND!!!"...... but then again, this is Florida we're talking about. And a denizen of Fark headline central who would tell the sheriff that their dog dialed 911 and hung up...... so she could just be the kind of moron who would raise ill tempered dogs.

Does anyone remember the Rescue 911 episode where the dog got tangled up in the phone cord and dialed 911? The operator said it sounded like a woman wailing and moaning in pain. Cops kicked in the door, and found Poochie with the cord around his neck.

//they did not shoot the dog

StoPPeRmobile: The pizza guy doesn't have the legal power to knock your door down while responding to an "emergency."

In this case, the woman wasn't smart enough to figure out how to open her screen door and simultaneously keep her four dogs inside. Two of them then chased the cop around the yard.

A neighbor saw the whole thing, said the officer retreated from the house 15 feet before resorting to the use of force, that the dog was, indeed, threatening the officer, that the woman was incapable of controlling her animals, and that the dogs have been out of control and threatened neighbors before.

The woman claims that she weighs 86 pounds, which pretty makes controlling her animals impossible. This story can best be summarized with the words "irresponsible owner costs poorly trained dog its life".

Dog's last words: "I should have dialed 912."

and/or

Here's the tape:

911. What's your emergency?
I need... I need a leg to hump badly.
An officer has been dispatched.
Okay. Thanks. Bye.

A little while later
911. What's your emergency?
Leg good. Gun bad. More leg. No gun.
A Paramedic has been dispatched.
Okay. Thanks. Bye.

Felony convictions are pretty common, and not as difficult to acquire as one might think.

Two 65-pound pitbull-mastiff mixes lunging at you is cause for serious concern.

disillusioned: My friend is a police officer who two weeks ago was literally bit in the testicles by a dog and still managed to handle the situation without shooting it. (The 'boys' are fine, by the way. Clean through.)

I'm not sure what point you're trying to make. He could easily have lost his testicles (and in the process lost a dangerously high volume of blood), which means the wiser course of action would have been to do what the cop in TFA did, assuming your friend values his own life above the dog's.

I generally love dogs (though not fond of the perpetuation of breeds bred specifically as attack dogs) and am outraged as the next guy when abuses by police take place, but if the description of the events that the officer gave is accurate, then he was justified in firing.

Or maybe try pepper spray or taser.

I see no reason not to try escalation of force with animals.
