Burn the land and boil the sea. You can't take the sky from me. There's no place I can be. Since I found Serenity

The only reason I watch Terra Nova (usually while I'm doing something else) is so I can make fun of the horrible plotting.

"Hey everyone, we can't find the spy but here is some evidence as to who it is. Only, the DNA sample needs to process overnight. LET'S NOT HAVE ANYONE WATCHING IT."

It's so bad but I can't stop having fun with it.

Or: "Something bad always happens when we send someone out by themselves to patrol or investigate something. So I think we should continue to send people out alone. In the dark. Plus, it's better if someone goes off by themselves without telling anyone where they're going."

Oh, Fringe. "If her radiation levels get any higher, her head will explode!'

how about the lets go out roaming with dinosaurs on a motorcycle. Why not use the cars where you have some protection from the native animals.

Or even better. We can go back in time, I know, lets go back and set up a colony right before an extinction level event. Why not go back to where the dinosaurs were already gone.

Terra Nova is farking terrible. Now Primeval, that's where it's at for Dinosaur time travel sciencey crap.

Something dumb about it being an entirely different timeline. The dinosaurs of this Earth might not face extinction. Plus, Spielberg loves dinosaurs.

well if you had watched the show you'd know that they didn't choose the time to go back to. the portal/rift whatever was happenstance.

not to say the show doesn't have problems. but that's not one of them

Did I actually see in commercials someone throw a flaming javelin into a dinosaur on Terra Nova? Yeah, I'm sure that show is just full of brilliance.

It is fairly astoundingly bad. If the production value was shiatier it would fully round the bend to good, but only due to being incomprehensibly awful. Like The Cape was. God I miss that crapfest.

The best thing they could do is kill all the children in order to get rid of annoying 1970's attempt to make what could be an adult show appeal to kids via moronic subplots.

And the time they're at is a few million years before the extinction event.

Yep.

Terra Nova, Fringe, and House all gone after this season is the only just thing.

Oh, and move Bones to Monday Night for its last couple seasons.

Tuned into Terra Nova again the other night, about half way through the episode. Not sure why. I guess to see if it had gotten tolerable.

There was a scene where Avatar Army guy shot a couple of dinosaurs, and they didn't seem phased. I thought, "you know, dinosaurs were giant reptiles, not magical armored immortal beings. If you'd shot them with high-powered automatic rifles, they likely would have died". Probably watched it for less than a minute total.

Show was a poor attempt to serialize Avatar. Not sure what the point of renewing it would be. On the bright side, I was never that excited about it so I can't say it's a big disappointment.

If Spielberg has such a hard on for dinosaurs he should let them use the software they used for Jurassic Park. I realize TN is just a TV show and JP was a feature film but JP was also 18 years ago.

Is that worth getting into?

I have watched Terra Nova... and the 2nd or 3rd episode with the virus.. and then the one with the bids nesting.. terrible.
The idea of dinosaurs out there, time travel.. yet they use lead bullet guns.. really? We mastered time travel but good guns still elude us?

2011-11-29 02:31:40 PM
I didn't watch the first episode. Watched the second at a friend's house (the one with the prehistoric birds that looked like ripoffs of Pitch Black) and was unimpressed.

Then I saw commercials for episode 3 where they already decide to do the memory-loss sickness episode...WTF?!?!

You're only 3 episodes into it and already you aren't even using the most important plot device you created the show around, DINOSAURS!

I stopped watching after that. Full episode dream sequences (lookin at you 2.5 men) and village sickness episodes are a jump the shark for me.

Tera Nova has bad production values? Ha! Back in my day, (2008), when NBC put on the new Knight Rider, we dreamed of having bad CGI. Why, in one episode, they blow up a Lamborghini and you can see the inside of the car is made of unpainted cardboard. Now THAT was a crapfest.

I do not get all the "Fringe" hate on Fark. It's a psuedoscience show with amazing acting, writing, and a fappable lead actress. Just suspend your disbelif for an hour and enjoy a show that takes all the good parts of X-files monster -of-the-week-goodness and blends it with a "Lost"-like mindbending experience. Fark all you haters who are cheering for its demise

It's not so much the guns, it bothers me that they apparently haven't started sending them armor piercing ammo. You'd think after the first few attempts to puncture dino-hide failed due to it's strange toughness, they'd have started sending over something with more punch.

Yes, but if you take my Warehouse 13 and Doctor Who I'mma have to cut a biatch. It's bad enough Eureka is ending after this year.

I actually thought that Fringe was in its last season already. I thought the plan was to close it out after their winter break.

Has the show ever explained why they are using non-lethal weapons to defend themselves? Also why does the colony have such a large number of people as full time soldiers? It makes no sense. A small militia or something maybe but they have like three farmers and 90 soldiers. My theory is that the soldiers are like Star Trek red shirts and just there to get eaten by dinosaurs.

The show is set 85 million years ago, the comet that slammed into the Gulf of Mexico was 65 million years ago. they have a little bit of time...

It's because we had high hopes for Fringe being as good or better than X-Files. And when it wasn't, we turned on it faster than you can say Post-modern Prometheus.

My guess is there was a cultural change which encouraged non-lethal weaponary? If you were living in the 2149 that is shown in the first show, there couldn't be many if any animals left. hunting would likely be long past taboo.

Terra Nova is definitely a sort of bad, but I'm having a much easier time sitting through that than House.

Not that House has been uniformly terrible this season, but I really miss the episodes where finding out why the patient was sick was the high point. Now they just kind of mumble the illness under their breath near the very end and get back on with the character drama...

They aren't even using bullets. Some kind of "pulse" weapon that shoots a .. shockwave? Something like that. I guess it's rechargeable. Still, I'd have an AK-47 laying around SOMEWHERE. Just in case.

You've definitely been watching the wrong show for the past 8 years. The show was never about the illness. It's only used to keep the show formulaic enough to have a foundation to build around the importance of the character interactions.

Like all things nostalgic we tend to look back on them with rose colored glasses. X-Files had some great episodes and it also has plenty of crap ones. On average Fringe is better. The characters actually go through emotional growth and change. The plot lines that drive the characters are for the most part interesting and complex. The characters in X-files on the other hand seemed to have a perpetual case of amnesia or some groundhog day thing going on.

Is this the end of Lost all over again?

No. I'm not saying I mind the characters having any development/interactions beyond the medical stuff (I actually really liked Park asking Chase out last night!), but there used to be a real element of suspense surrounding the illnesses. The first two seasons were all about the patients. House's crew hardly had personalities for the first season.

The Terra Nova soldiers are the worst soldiers ever, especially when you consider their commander is allegedly some badass war veteran and the fact that they get their asses handed to them by Peter Pan's Lost Boys whenever they leave the gate.

Maybe if Taylor spent some time training his men instead of flittering around in a tank top showing off his massive guns they'd be better fighters.

Terra Nova is not great. However, it's still in its first season, and most Sci Fi (Not ALL) is bad in season one. Give it another season or two to figure itself out, then we'll know.

ST:TNG was farking brutal in its first year.
B5 was also bad season one.

B5 Season 1, at least, had enough foreshadowing nuggets for a rewatch.

Original Trek, however, would like a word with you....
