Just about every (half decent) new quarterback comes in and has a certain amount of success until the other teams watch enough film and figure out how to defend them.

Vince Young got plenty of ugly Ws. It didn't help him keep a job because he couldn't win the games against the teams that don't allow teams that play ugly to win way more often than not. Tebow is going along the same exact path, except with even worse QB stats than Young did(who was a 55% passer or so, leagues better than Tebow right now). There is no reason to expect it will change, as history is always a good indicator

Except that Tebow losing most of the big games hasn't happened yet. Why not wait for him to lose a few games to those good teams first before you write him off?

I don't think he's a long term solution for Denver because with the style of offense they run (option) they will have a very hard time getting any good receivers which will make it even harder for him to pick up yards through the air. But it's not like they had an awesome lineup at the WR spot.

Ravens are leading the AFC North and are 2nd in the AFC overall(I think?) with an absolutely sweltering defense. Saints are leading their division and are putting up amazing offensive numbers.

The Broncos (notice I refer to them as a whole team, not just by the name of their qb) are struggling to beat bad teams. They rank 21st or lower in 3 major categories, are #1 in rushing and yet still 25th in total yardage. Over their past 6 games, the 5 wins have come against teams who are a combined 24-31. (And Oakland really helps out that record)

Anyway you slice it, this is a bad team. If their QB was a more consistent passer and they could open the field up better, they would stand a much better chance at moving forward. They won't be able to run against Pittsburgh or Baltimore and they don't have the air game to keep up with the Saints or Packers, if they make it that far. Their not currently listed among playoff teams, though they do have an outside chance to win out which would give them a good shot. Thankfully they're playing some junk teams down the stretch.

I'm tired of apologists who completely disregard what is taking places. W's are great, but let's look at them realistically. In the long term, the Broncos are not going to be successful unless Tebow can learn to sit in the pocket, use his legs to extend plays, read the defense and make the clutch throws. He's got Big Ben's mobility, but my grandmother's throwing arm.

Vince Young didn't keep his job because he was crazy, got hurt and then starting throwing temper tantrums.

Claiming Young was a flash in the pan unconventional QB who got demoted when the league caughtt up to his limited skills is rewriting history to fit your simplistic narrative.

Look, I'm not saying that Tebow is a great QB nor that Broncos are going to make the playoffs for sure. What I'm saying is that he's winning the games on the schedule and he's the best option Broncos have at the moment. He helps the offense and defense a lot and people ignore that. A well rested defense plays a lot better especially since Tebow is not turning the ball over and giving the defense short fields. The running game is doing a whole lot better because he's always a threat to keep the ball.

The option will be figured out in the offseason just like the wildcat was neutered in the offseason. But in the meantime the wildcat got the Dolphins to the playoffs and the option just might get the Broncos there too.

Off topic a bit, but whatever.

We all had fun making fun of Tyler Palko for being horrible (myself included), but I got to thinking a little bit about what his past few weeks must have been like.

Now, don't get me wrong, it's not like Palko has ever been this incredibly hyped player, but he was good enough to get a scholarship/play/start at Pitt, so he obviously had some talent. He was probably a superstar in whatever high school league he played in, and did have some success in college (8300+ yards, 66 TD's in his career).

The point being, even though he was never seen as a Wonder Kid, he probably spent a good portion of his high school/college career thinking that he'd one day get a chance to play in the NFL. He wasn't drafted of course and bounced around various camps/leagues, but he stuck with it, (presumably) worked hard, and eventually caught on with the Chiefs this year as the backup. When Cassel went down, here was his chance.

Again, I doubt Palko has any illusions about himself as a player at this point. He knows he's a perennial backup at best, and any chance he gets to start a game is a rare thing. He doesn't play well against the Pats two weeks ago, then Orton is claimed, and the writing is on the wall. This game against the Steelers might be the last chance he gets to start and win a game in the NFL. He wants this win badly. Palko knows that within 4-5 years he's probably going to be selling insurance or coaching football somewhere in Pennsylvania, but when that time comes, at least he can hold his head somewhat high and hang his hat on this one night, when he beat the Steelers in an upset win. His wife or mom will print out and frame an article/box score from this game, people in the community who know him will always bring up this game, he can tell his kids and grandkids that he's done something that 99.99% of the world has not. He's won an NFL game. Maybe he didn't turn out to be the next Dan Marino like he thought he was going to be at one point, but just getting this one win as a starter is something.

He doesn't play well in the game of course, interceptions abound, but the Chiefs are right in it. The defense has come through, the Chiefs have the ball with 3 timeouts and plenty of time, they've got a drive going. This is it, it's happening. He completes a couple passes, converts a big 4th down, another big 3rd down as they move into Steelers territory. They need a TD but they're moving the ball, there's still 40-some seconds left and they still have a timeout, the crowds into it and there's Bowe calling for the ball deep. He chucks it up there, it's not a particularly good pass but it's close to Bowe...and he's not even trying for it. Dwayne "Someone is going to give me 5 years/$40 million next year and I can quit trying" Bowe can't even be bothered to put a hand up to try and at least swat the ball away from the defender. And just like that, it's gone. Palko now doesn't even have this one win. Instead of being able to hold onto this win, now when it's all over, he's just got to hear all the snickers and jokes behind his back as he's trying to convince some young couple to buy an extended warranty on a new Ford.

Tebow has actually looked a little more comfortable throwing each week. He has five more games to improve his passing to a level that would prove to Elway and Fox that his style of offense can be sustainable.

They can win by throwing 15-25 times a game if Tebow can complete 55-60% of his passes, but with only 5-10 attempts or 40-50% completions long term success is not going to happen.

Since Quinn will be gone after this season the Broncos will be taking at least 1 QB in the 2012 draft. Whether they select a hybrid or a traditional drop back passer will tell you what the Broncos think they have in Tebow.

INeedAName: Over their past 6 games, the 5 wins have come against teams who are a combined 24-31. (And Oakland really helps out that record)

And Miami really hurts it. They've hardly had the easiest schedule; every team was around .500.

The Broncos were favored in how many of those games?

San Diego -5.5 (upset)
Jets -6.5 (upset)
Kansas City -3 (upset)
Oakland -7 (upset)
Miami -1 (upset)

Oh right, they're picking on bad teams, though (that are all supposedly better than them).

Ow! That was my feelings!: That would be an excellent bet. Watching Tebow 'QB' the Broncos is farking brutal.

Except now if they're close in the 4th quarter, they know they're going to win.

lacrossestar83: In related news, fark Skip Bayless for promoting the "critic=hater" mindset

Skip Bayless and Woody Paige need to have a duel to see who is the truest Tebow fan. The winner gets to rub Tebow down with liniments and oils.
