They probably can't find it because its moving faster than light.

I watched this show. This guy is hilarious. I don't think he actually believes what he's saying though. He seems to be doing it for fun.

It doesn't exist.

Of course it may only exist if its not being observed.

I dunno, these things had pretty small holes back when I sold them at Radio Shack. It never occurred to me to try that, but if the ring fits someone... knock yourself out I guess.

It amazes me that these people continue to try to do this work in A farkING GRAVITY WELL.

You have to do it in deep space.

That series was mildly interesting until that jackhole popped up on the screen. I couldn't bring myself to entertain their theories after that.

What? The sun's pretty far away. Oh- oh- you mean Earth? Earth isn't a gravity well. It's a gravity divot. It's barely even a planet, let alone a meaningful source of gravity.

In all seriousness: gravity has some relativistic effects, in that it means all the particles are inside an accelerating reference frame, but the particles we're mashing together have way more accelerated by the particle accelerator. You can pretty much ignore the impact of the Earth's gravity.

maybe one of those flights -- i don't know the proper term for them -- but for example Foo Fighters used one to make their 'next year' video... flyin' in a plane at the proper altitude at the current angle so the inertial force provides artificial weightlessness.

/so just slap a pair of wings on all the hardware and you're good to go

Some crappy History (former History Channel) series named Ancient Aliens with deals with supposedly alien encounters that happened thousands of years ago.

But one thing aspAddict:. You say the series lost credibility when that clown appeared, but...he showed up in the first episode XD

Not only that. He's the producerof the damn thing! HAHAHAHAHA! All I've ever seen it's a big comedy :P

It's dark matter particles. They only interact with extremely powerful electric and magnetic fields.

erewhon: It's dark matter particles. They only interact with extremely powerful electric and magnetic fields.

The whole point of dark matter being dark is that they don't interact with electromagnetic fields.

urban.derelict: maybe one of those flights

You're still subject to the Earth's gravity- you just happen to be falling, is all. That's true of orbit, as well- you just happen to be falling in a vehicle traveling so fast that it keeps not hitting the Earth. And that's a parabolic dive, by the way.

You do know it's a 17 mile long tunnel buried over 500 feet below ground that has nearly 100 tons of liquid helium cooling the 1600+ 27 ton magnets, right?

I mean, the thing isn't big, it's sort of made the word "big" feel inadequate.

t3knomanser: The whole point of dark matter being dark is that they don't interact with electromagnetic fields.

Bah. (waves scepter) Their interaction is obviously exponential with the strength of the field, not linear. Thus they show no detectable interaction with fields of typical density, but they get in the way when you've got whacking big field strength. Like this.

/it's also where some of the noise comes from in MRI scans...
