Why did i waste my time watching that?

2011-11-29 02:23:15 PM
Better question is why is this tagged with Christopher Walken?

2011-11-29 02:24:31 PM
So... that's what dubstep means. Glad I've avoided it so far.

2011-11-29 02:27:23 PM
Dubstep sucks and has no redeeming value as a musical form or even dance music. Disco is better than dubstep.

The wub ring to rule them all.

Why would he ask for that? What is wrong with him?

Farker Soze: Why would he ask for that? What is wrong with him?

Because dubstep remixes are trendy.

It was nice that they showed the extended versions this past weekend on the movie channels....it really adds a lot to the movies.

LOTR is one of those books where you can't cut a lot off stuff. they took a hatchet to The golden Compass, and everyone hated it.

I'm excited to tell my friends later that I am as easily amused by stupid things on the internet as Hugo winning authors. Next up to find a Nobel Prize winner that laughs at every new Hitler Finds Out parody also.

I know exactly how you feel. I once read a post where Neil Gaiman complained that not even his neuroses were unique.

Cloud Nine. Instantly. "I'm as pathetic as a famous author! Squee!"

2011-11-29 03:02:52 PM
so...dubstep is playing a line of dialog backwards and forwards over and over again?

2011-11-29 03:07:58 PM
so dubstep is Darude - SANDSTORM?

2011-11-29 03:15:35 PM
Well, that was stupid.

Wolfscythe: Better question is why is this tagged with Christopher Walken?

Christopher Walken as Gollum in Pulp Fiction mashup. 'Five hunnud years ... I carried dis ring ... up my ass. An now it's yours ... little man."

No fair. I came into this wanting to hate on it, and actually thought it was pretty funny.

On the other hand, I'd wager that Scalzi himself submitted this.

Let me ask you a question. When you came pulling in here, did you notice a sign out in front of my house that said "Dead Hobbit Storage"?

Go read the whole list of tweets. Some good stuff in there.

"We're at the "Eowyn and Theoden recite Luke and Vader's lines from Jedi" scene."

That always bothered me.

Dubstep is to music as Twilight is to literature.

The dubstep portion wasn't particularly great.

The remash of facial expressions watching gollum do that fecking genius.

HamWBone: so dubstep is Darude - SANDSTORM?

No, Darude is dance. Dubstep is defined by a percussion riff that is at half speed to the piece's tempo, with high speed elements from other instruments providing the overall pace.

I'll gladly listen to dubstep if it means I get to avoid hearing some yowling "artist" using autotune as a crutch while they discuss what day of the week it is, or how to get the party started.

Nope. The percussion in that piece is at full speed. This is dubstep. (new window)

First of all, John Scalzi is AWESOME.

Secondly, that dupstep was too damn short

That was one of the shiattiest youtube videos I've ever seen.
As a corollary, that was some of the shiattiest "dubstep" I've ever heard. farkin' Skrillex poisoning decent music.

Ah well; happens to every genre I suppose.

Listen to some Burial, or even Thom Yorke, for much much better dubstep.

/It's definitely still not for everyone, though.

Amber Spyglass was good right up to the very end with the release of God. That was underwhelming.

In his tweets, he mentioned this: "The Two Towers is now on. I hold the minority view that it is the best film of the trilogy."

I happen to agree. The Battle of Helm's Deep is just awesome, and by the time the movie's over, you still have the anticipation of having another movie to watch. The Return of the King is excellent, but as far as film-making is concerned, it's kind of downhill after the fall of Barad-dûr. The part where the hobbits jump on the bed together in slo-mo is just downright stupid.

Ahahaha, nice!

Scalzi! Write another amazing book like Old Man's War (or The Ghost Brigades), or at least set in that universe, stat!

Yes yes, authors don't work like that, etc. I loved reading your books except for Zoe's Tale, just didn't click with me for whatever reason.

steamingpile: And who is this author? Has he written anything decent? Always looking for something for the kindle or to read on the crapper.

Old Man's War

is on a number of "best nnn sci-fi books ever" type lists and he has had multiple titles nominated for Hugo and Nebula awards. I have personally enjoyed number of his works immensely.

So, yeah. Decent, I'd say. ;-)

Citation Needed: /I likes me some dubstep

I have spent the past 15-20 mins listening to youtube links and it sounds a lot like techno with balls, or maybe toned down industrial, also its what I was listening to about 10 years ago when going to raves while traveling, I get those tingles down the spine just hearing it again and it makes me believe even stronger that the human brain is the strongest pharmacy in the world.

Who are the best in this genre now? I may have to venture to a music site to buy a few tracks.
