"We would like to apologize for this particular mishap in coordination and any trouble it may subsequently have caused to those involved," the statement said.

Vindictively and thuggishly sending her through the x-ray three times and stripping her was a mishap in coordination?

I heard there is an 18 year old high school girl on twitter with more honesty regarding apologies than this.

There's only one solution. Israel's defence minister must be publicly strip searched and sent through an x-ray machine.

well in Israel's defense ....she looks Muslim.

2011-11-29 11:15:27 AM
but .. but .. but we have been told the xray machines are harmless by our very own TSA.

/waiting until some TSA guy gets a fatal cancer from exposure to the machines from repeated use, in close proximity, without a lead lined jacket like those used in every hospital in the US.

2011-11-29 11:18:27 AM
I don't see why they needed to X ray AND strip search. I can understand them saying "you can choose either the scanner or the groping, pick one."

But... young people with a bit of power abusing it and laughing? Not so unusual I think. "Oh you wanna be special huh? Haha, fark you" etc. Just ask certain TSA people, sysadmins, bouncers, police...

Any x-rays I have ever had, the technician left the room to take the x-rays and then came back in. I was the one with the leather aprons and such.

There is going to be a lot of cancer as a result of this.

I have a better solution. I have invented a wearable genital sized X-ray machine for the defence minister.

I'mgoing to take a wild stab here, but I think living in Israel has the potential for more harm than the X-ray machine.

First of all, she wasn't 'strip-searched by soldiers', she was sent into a private room with one female soldier and told to strip down to her underwear.

This is someone that happens routinely in every airport in America, but after someone fails three times to an x-ray test and asks not to go through it again, it's suddenly a sick war crime?

Also she declared that

In the Oct. 25 letter sent by the newspaper said Addario, a Pulitzer Prize winner who is based in India and has worked in more than 60 countries, had never been treated with "such blatant cruelty."

One man grabbed her breasts - the start of a pattern of sexual harassment she endured over the ensuing 48 hours.

'There was a lot of groping,' she said. 'Every man who came in contact with us basically felt every inch of my body short of what was under my clothes.'

As she was being driven away from Ajdabiya, she said another of her captors stroked her head and told her repeatedly that she was going to be killed.

'He was caressing my head in this sick way, this tender way, saying, "You're going to die tonight. You're going to die tonight",' she added.

I'm supposed to believe that going three times through an x-ray machine and being asked to strip to your underwear in a private room with a private soldier is somehow so unfathomably and blatantly cruel that it dwarfs being kidnapped, molested for 48 hours and constantly threatened to be killed?

This really raises questions about his credibility when she says that 'soldiers stood above watching and laughing' as she went through the x-ray machine. Why would that be funny in the first place?

This is just a ridiculous excuse to once again bash Israel.

Should the soldiers have made a pregnant woman go three times through the x-ray machine? No.
Should they have asked her to strip immediately after the first test failed? Yes.
Could this have been handled better? Yes.
Are those searches necessary? Yes.
Is this the worst thing to happen to humanity since the killing fields of Cambodia? No.

Walker: In other news people have to go thru "X-ray machines" at airports.

Indeed. The lady walking next to me last time was forced to go through it twice, then she was ordered to strip in a private room with a lady TSA agent

This is worse than Martin Luther King's assassination.

itazurakko: I don't see why they needed to X ray AND strip search. I can understand them saying "you can choose either the scanner or the groping, pick one."

Well they didn't make her go through the thing three times for a laugh, she obviously alarmed the sensors that she was carrying something metallic big enough to be a problem, and even after she was sent back and asked to remove all those objects from her pockets, she still had whatever was creating the problem.

To pretend that going three times through one of these is going to affect the baby, or that being told to privately strip in order for a soldier to verify she isn't carrying anything dangerous while crossing a military outpost is something so vile and so incredibly sick is just ridiculous

Well, if that's our criteria to judge whether a course of action was correct or not, then pretty much everything is okay short of massacring a million people.

Tatsuma: This is just a ridiculous excuse to once again bash Israel.

Perhaps. Perhaps not. Either way, you have to admit, the Israeli government tends to give a lot of people material to bash them with, sometimes in the most bone-headed of ways.

How're you enjoying your studies?

And to pretend you can't imagine a security guard laughing as he makes you submit to something you didn't want to submit to (regardless of any actual effects) is disingenuous.

Nothing to do with Israel specifically, either - security does that sort of thing all the time all over the world. A little bit of power easily goes to the head.

I literally go through one of those scanners at least every day. I see soldiers doing that every day. I've never seen any of them 'watching from above' and laughing.

Again, based on my personal experience, it makes no sense to think that they would be doing so. Notice that I didn't claim they absolutely didn't.

I'm saying that since she's clearly using hyperbole and lying about just how bad the incident was (because, again, really, treated more cruelly than when kidnapped, molested and threatened to be killed for 48 hours?), it makes me wonder where the other parts of her testimony other than agreed facts are lies as well.

Do you always think so critically of people? Or only when those people say something you don't agree with?

Tats, I just don't believe you.

Two years ago my cousin went to Israel to attend a wedding in Haifa. He was stopped at the airport, stripped to his underwear, left in a windowless cell for four hours, questioned for four more hours, before finally being released. And they kept his laptop. All of this because he 'fit the profile' and his passport was stamped with Qatar, Kuwait, Iraq and Afghanistan. At least that is what they told him. He is a 6'2" blond American Marine who works as a director for the Iraq/Afghanistan Veterans Association (IAVA). Yes, apparently their biggest threats are Americans. If that is how an actual US Marine is treated, I would hate to be an uppity reporter.
