The news over the wire is that Israel is going to pound Iran with airstrikes, starting tonight. As the US throws hell and fire all over Iran's military installations. I hope everyone has been keeping in shape, because I'd imagine with the economy as bad as it is, there's going to be an involuntary draft by summer of next year. From what I can decipher from Obama's foreign policy memos on Wikileaks, a ground war in the Middle East is the only way he thinks he can get re-elected next year.

If those are the "hard-line students" in the picture, I think they are pissed because they have been in school for at least 45 years.

Might I ask what brand of tinfoil you recommend for keeping the gubament out of your teeth, and keeping leftovers fresh?

Nice headline subby, for those of us old enough to remember the risks the Canadians took to help out some of our diplomats there during the hostage crisis, I just want to say again thanks to my neighbors up north.

Much like a good neighbor, you may look at me with disdain after that wild party but when it is time to clean up you are willing to help and not remind me that the goat was a bad idea...

2011-11-29 09:42:17 AM
What's all this then?

Yea looks like those cops are keeping the protesters in line there, they certainly give the appearance of being real police.

What is this "wire" you speak of? And is that "tonight" by Israeli clocks? Because it's just about 5pm over there. Dang near quittin' time. It's 6:13 in Tehran - an hour and a half after sunset.

So what you're saying is, before I get off of work we should have a nice little regional conflict on our hands?

Please, enlighten us with a source.

Just favorite him in bright green like the troll he is. In the past he pretended being a North Korean big wig, going to school with Khadaffi, and various other nonsensical things just to get people to bite.

Woof. This would be scary if true. I think it would be time to leave the country at that point.

Question: if the Embassy is on sovereign British soil, can the Brits shoot back?

All Obama has to do to get reelected is play clips of the republican debates on his campaign adds.
It's kinda like during the 90's when Clinton's opponents were "The Grinch, a Neo-nazi, and a Funny Faced Millionaire"

Well the guy in the photo has a graying beard, not sure about the youth part.

Odds were this was a paid mob. The government brought them in during the Iranian uprisings a few years back as well. That also explains why the police are just standing there. Or hell it is a bunch of troops in plain cloths who got told "No PT, you're storming the embassy today".

It was only 20 students, they can't even get a good mob going, here in the U.S. we use bigger mobs than that to invade a convenience store

I wonder how people here would react (especially those poo pooing on these actions) if the UN decided to place heavy sanctions on us for our aggressive military posture?

Eisenhower is the gift that keeps on giving. Even Truman had a hand in the CIA helping with the coup that thrust the Shah into power. A move that Iranians resented for years until the clerics took over. The U.S. had a "relationship" with the Shah and felt compelled to come to his aid following the revolution in 1979.

At first I was picturing black clad Iranians roping over the roof to repay/replay the British from 30 years ago (wow, that long? crap I'm getting old). But then the rest of the headline kicked in & I had a good chuckle & a tip of the coffee cup to our neighbors to the north for what they did years ago.

Question: if the Embassy is on sovereign British soil, can the Brits shoot back?

Yes.

Longer answer: yes, but they'd end up running out of bullets when the next mob shows up with a lot more people, goaded on by Iranian government employees (as usual).

On the other hand (due to the complete inaction by Iranian security forces), this is a classic cause for war. For that matter, technically, the US and Iran have been at war since the 1977 hostage crisis, it's just that everyone tried to pretend otherwise.

(Using classic diplomatic definitions, most of the more aggressive countries in the world have given each other causes for declarations of war many times over the last few decades...)

No they haven't, they've just had no official diplomatic relations. And the year was 1979, not 1977.
