ww2 jokes aside, this makes sense. the poles are tied to germany like the mexicans are to the US. if the Euro goes bust and the germans tank, it aint gonna be good business for poland either, a country which has more than 10% unemployment for 20 years and is only now beginning in some areas to prosper (warsaw, krakau)

every sovreign state in europe should be doing this. only the germans can do it at this point.

as he said himself:

"I demand of Germany that, for your sake and for ours, you help [the euro zone] survive and prosper. You know full well that nobody else can do it. I will probably be the first Polish foreign minister in history to say so, but here it is: I fear German power less than I am beginning to fear German inactivity. "

The sad thing is that after the European debt crisis passes in, say, three years, it will be our turn again due to our inability to put together a workable federal budget.

Between the US banking crisis, the EU debt crisis, the soon to come EU banking crisis, and the inevitable US debt crisis, we are looking at 15 to 20 years of financial turmoil. The only good news is that we are already 4 years into it.

Gott mit uns!

When the French banking industry collapses, Germany can ask for Burgundy, Alsace, Lorraine, and all those other various border territories back.

Although, to be fair, the HRE never reached Greece.

yeah except at least then there were german speakers living there. theyve all been thrown out of those places now. have you ever been to strasbourg? its a toilet. theres no way it was this badly neglected when the germans ran it, they were actually proud of the place.

and dont forget the sudetenland, the polish cooridor, danzig, memel, and hell at this point the russians need to give back all of e. prussia too. and the italians should quit being dicks and give back south tirol. they never did anything nice with it and it still feels like austria.

Given the economical nature of this conquest, I would suggest the Hanseatic League as a better comparison. Back in the day when German traders ruled from London to Russia. The hanseatic league was a union of merchants which controlled many independent cities independently from their local lords and princes. They were strong enough that they could wage a war against Denmark.

Generally It was the sort of power that would give occupy protesters nightmares and it lastet for half a millenia.

How about the 4th Crusade and the Latin Empire? Maybe we could give them partial credit.

I really like where this thread has headed.

Seriously, Germans. Prussia. It's time to bring it back. We've given this whole, "Poland on a map" thing a good run.

Going by historical trends Poland is about due for being swallowed up by a foreign power.

They really seem happiest when they have sovereignty for short bursts.

What if Germany's conditions are requiring everyone else to adopt a german style work ethic?

Not the first time.

We had no way of staying afloat,
We had to leave on a ferryboat.
Economic refugees,
On the run to Germany.
We had the back of Maggie's hand,
Times were tough in Geordieland.
We got wor tools and working gear
And humped it all from Newcastle to here.

/German tarts are wunderschön.

"There is nothing inevitable about Europe's decline. But we are standing on the edge of a precipice. This is the scariest moment of my ministerial life but therefore also the most sublime," Radoslaw Sikorski said in Berlin on Monday evening.

How many other government ministers would know how to properly use the world "sublime" in a sentence?

Yep. Those tricky lightbulbs, submarine screen doors, and helicopter ejection seats aren't going to install themselves.
