It's funny because it's unseasonably warm up north.

Fitting that this headline should be linked to USA Today.

Laugh all you want about climate change but so far here in ME we've had two good snowfalls including one while the trees were still green, two good melts and tonight Kevin is forecasting "Thunder Fog". Not quite Day After Tomorrow, but definitely not business as usual.

And that's how the local yahoos will probably spin it too, being unable to discern the difference between 'global' and 'my small section of the planet' and also 'weather' from 'climate change'.

Damn libruls and their science.

Oh goodie, another global warming thread that is likely to be filled with well-thought-out arguments and rational counterpoints.

That schtick is getting so old you can carbon date it.

Weather: day to day, week to week temperatures and precipitation. This is very difficult to predict.

Climate: the reason snowbirds spend January in Florida, not Minnesota. This is a lot more obvious.

Climate Change: Predicted changes in climates climates. This is not obvious before the change, but will be quite obvious after, such as when the snowbirds discover their beachfront houses underwater.

I can't believe any of you seemingly intelligent people took this headline's stupid, stupid bait.

Snowfall in the south is proof that there is no climate change.

Cue the "Aw, jeez" guy, please. I'm sick of this being a pseudo-issue for jabbering hillbillies to rant about...

Yup, I think it hit 70 in Boston yesterday. 70 degrees in New England on November 28th? That ain't right...

2011-11-29 10:55:57 AM
And yet, when Texas had 452 days of plus 100 degree days this summer, it wasn't global warming, but the gays fault.

"Global Warming" if you disagree
"Climate Change" if you agree

2011-11-29 10:56:35 AM
oh geez, not this again.

people, remember that according to fark, the WEATHER has nothing to do with CLIMATE change, UNLESS (here is the important part) it supports the views that man is responsibile for climate change.

also, remember, if it is warmer than last year, that is climate CHANGE, if it is colder than last year, it is climate CHANGE and if it is the same as last year it is climate CHANGE (since it rarely is exactly the same from year to year)

You hippy commie thingy name calling such and such! Down with the man! Up with pineapples! Hoist the main sail! Swab the deck!

Err... sorry, got a little distracted there.

Personally I'd pay good money to watch the South get assraped by the same levels of snow we got last year in the North East. From January to March we didn't see a week go by without a storm, pretty much. Most Southern states get a few inches and they panic, but a good solid four feet of powder? Oh hell yeah, sit back and giggle.

19F right now and expecting to get snow for the next 2 days. Had snow on the ground since Halloween. Global Warming how does it work!?

Ugh. I can't wait until there's a shiat-ton of snow on the ground and get to hear "How 'bout that global warming?". Never mind the fact that a rising average temperature means MORE SNOW.

I'm betting the admins greened it because of the bait. This thread is pretty much guaranteed a 200+ post count.

It wouldn't have gotten greened if the 'joke' was consistently ignored, like it should be.

This is exactly what was predicted by the climate change computer models. All one has to do to verify that is read the IPCC report, chapter 29, entitled "Why a record cold snap will hit the south in late november, 2011".

Seriously, you flat-earthers need to stop listening to Rush Limbought and listen to more science-savvy folks, like George Soros.

Low 60's in upstate NY (near Buffalo) and you're starting the whole 'global warming isn't real' argument. Sure.

I haven't seen snow so far this season. Probably, the first winter I can remember with no snow leading up to 12/1.

2011-11-29 10:57:43 AM
Global warming means more of the sun's energy is trapped in the atmosphere. On a macro level, this means overall more warmth, but on a localized level, more energy = wilder weather.

The sun powers snowstorms too. Therefore, global warming will result in more blizzards in strange places.

It's certainly over as far as I'm concerned. If some morons want to keep believing that AGW is false or unproven or even unaccepted in the scientific community, I'm willing to let them wallow in their ignorance.

I'll keep pushing for higher CAFE standards and eventually we'll get to the point that they won't even have a reasonable choice to pollute. Either they will buy new "green" products or they will pay ridiculous amounts in taxes on old polluting products.

2011-11-29 10:58:43 AM
Calmamity: I can't believe any of you seemingly intelligent people took this headline's stupid, stupid bait.

That's because AGW is really about politics, not science. They MUST shout down the unbelievers who threaten their political power, so no thread is too stupid for them to attempt to suppress.

Look, subby, the bait in your headline was stupid and the bait here is stupid. Why don't you slow your roll a bit, hold back and learn from the other trolls before you go all in with the derp. Subtlety is a lost art.

As I typed my last post ironically I got this email from a meteorologist that sends them out periodically... Its region specific but enjoy anyway.

Good morning everyone,

It looks like we should have a cold front drop south from Central Canada early tomorrow morning through tomorrow night. While this front is expected to bring colder temperatures, I don't think that it is quite cold enough to call it an "arctic". My guess is that it will drop our highs down into the lower to mid 20s in most areas, except in the teens along the US 2 corridor and in ND by Thursday. The main impact from this system will be for snow and winds-especially at the passes. Snowfall amounts in the lower elevations will probably be in the 1-4" range, while the mountains could see 5-10"-all nothing out of the ordinary for this time of year. As far as timing goes, look for the snow to begin over the N ID panhandle/Kootenai region of NW MT after midnight tonight, across the remainder of the northern half of MT/ID by mid-morning Wednesday, and across South Central-Southeast MT and ND by late Wednesday afternoon. While you all in Dickinson may see a few inches, Belle Fourche might be missed (except for a dusting). There will probably be a little blowing snow to deal with across the plains of Central and Eastern MT, but it shouldn't be the worst we've ever seen by a long stretch. The passes will get "iffy" too.

After this system passes, it looks like we remain in a dry, breezy, cold northerly flow for the remainder of the week. The door is wide-open for Arctics to come down from the North Pole, but my model data doesn't show any coming. This is odd, but I will take it. Like you all, I can stand not having -20 to -40 degrees for a while longer.

/Not trolly this time

See, Farxist, now this a significantly better troll post. It has sarcasm and snark that border on kinda funny. It ends with an attack on Rush Limbaugh to lull you in and then pops you with a Soros.

Outstanding job here Seven, you truly iz gud.

Meanwhile in Florida, it's considerably warmer than it was this time the last couple winters. Last night was the first time all year we've turned the heat on.
