I would guess a combination of hookers, blow, and risky European debt instruments.

Famous Thamas: I would guess a combination of hookers, blow, and risky European debt instruments.

They had collateral calls on their own positions and dipped into customer funds to cover these calls, hoping that the crisis would abate and they'd be able to make good on customer obligations. The money is with their counterparties and the customers are SOL, at least for a while.

/just my only semi-educated opinion

Well, yeah. If you use someone else's assets for unauthorized purposes I'd say it's theft, or at least fraud. Even if that purpose isn't hookers, blow, yachts, etc.

Interesting how 200 million can just "surface" somewhere. You get the impression that somebody at MF Global left the door open and the money just wandered out and now the neighbors are calling to let them know that's it's asleep on their lawn furniture.

I hate when that happens!

"Ohai, did you need that money? Tough luck, its gone and you will never get it back. The funniest part of all? I will never be held accountable and will never be punished for this. I'll just enjoy the millions I stole while I laugh at you prols. One set of rule for the 1%, another for you mere peasantry. Deal with it, suckers."

Hi, my name's Fred. I have a bank. You've got 200 million dollars? I'll keep it right here. White suit, right pocket, remember that.

The Memory Hole.

It wasn't there in the first place.

Only your imagination.
