(Sporting News) Interesting Ray Lewis may not make the cut for next week's game. He'll be there to cover for his teammates from the sidelines as they take a stab at their next divisional foe   (aol.sportingnews.com) divider line 20

The Ravens are playing the Browns. Not necessarily a 'stab' situation... more of a total evisceration and dominating performance which give Ravens' homers more of a reason to lambast their lower-than-wanted weekly ESPN-bobblehead-rankings.

Hey now, that's...yeah, that's about it. I'm not sure the Ravens need to risk anything with Ray Lewis for this game..

Browns are usually able to play the Ravens close. If I remember right, our losses last year were by seven and ten points. Plus, this year's Ravens seem to have developed a Steeleresque ability to play down to their opponent's level.

I would expect the Browns to play the Ravens tough. This isn't some rivalry that was pulled out of marketing's ass or a simple matter of sharing a metro area. The relationship between the Browns and Ravens was born from betrayal.

In Vegas, being favored by 7 or 10 points is considered a heavy favorite.

The point is that actually losing by seven or ten points isn't even remotely close to "total evisceration".

Last year's games were not dominant wins by any stretch and the Ravens have had issues coming back after big victories, they lost to both the Jags and Seahawks on the road and this game shapes up in similar fashion.

I'm a Ravens fan, but I am by no means sleeping on the Browns this week.

Bonus to subby for proper use of RayRay's stabby situation. So many people think Ray did the stabbing when all he did was have his boys' back. Onward Christian sooooolldier!!!

Also, how can this be an NFL thread without a Tebow reference?

But also realize the spread is about making sure the bookie makes money regardless of the outcome.

When Ray Lewis had his first game out, against the Bengals, a friend and I came up with the Ray Lewis Drinking Game.

* If they show Ray on the sidelines, take a shot.
* If he's yelling at somebody, take 2 shots.
* If he's covering up a murder, take 4 shots.
* If he's getting interviewed by the sideline reporter, YOU have to cover up a murder.

This game NOT to be played with Plaxico Burress.

Self-fulfilling comment is self-fulfilling.

I'd add:

* Any time the guys calling the game tell us that Ray-Ray is "a warrior".

/Well played, Subby

While I think that the barbs pointed at Ray Lewis are meant to poke fun at a serious gash. Ray Lewis did not kill a man, and he is no rapier, so sinking cutting edge jabs into him by unfeeling pricks leaves a wound that penetrates deeply. I hope that this word cuts across all of Maryland from Bowie to Pikesville. Even those that are not in the Cheasapeake bay on net tear up when they hear hurtful words that slice deeply. Can we peel away the harsh thrust of our sports drive, parry the incisionist rhetoric, and pierce less sharply those that are truly at the tip of the spear in the slash and burn arena that is pro football. It does no one any good to raz or rip into those that shiver in the weekly rumble. Mr. Lewis, I support you to the hilt, I hope you will not b lade low by those that would disembowel you for your past slit ups. Let your performance on the field foil their attempts to drive a dagger into your historic career - we can all saber your results. Let those that hemorrhage their lifeblood in bile be hoisted on their own pitard.

I wouldn't say any team who lost to the Jaguars and Seahawks should be so entirely sure about eviscerating the Browns.

Something some people may not realize: The Browns have only lost by more than 10 points twice this year and exactly 10 twice. But five of their games have also been withing 4 points. Considering the Browns love to play spoiler to division opponents and have the #1 pass D in the league, meaning Bad Flacco might show up, it could be a tough game.

The Browns haven't beaten Baltimore since 2007.

/Will not end up regretting making that statement.

That's not a stat. That's what happens when you're a crappy football team -- you get blown out four times in 11 weeks and you're not good enough to win the close games.

Nothing personal, but geez can't you guys find something original to say instead of dredging up old news.

As far as the game goes, I wouldn't discount the Browns, sometimes they suprise you.

Now when did I say the Browns weren't a crappy team?

They are a crappy team...which is exactly what the Ravens have been dropping games too this year. And it's not Colts level of crappy.
