When I went backpacking in Amsterdam between junior and senior year of college, the first thing we did upon arrival naturally was hit up a coffee shop to procure several varieties of top-shelf green (white widow was one of them, don't remember what else we got). Within minutes of finding a nice table and seats out front, an unkempt hippie comes traipsing up along the sidewalk trailing his belt like a leash. We stare with glassy eyes, plainly amused at the spectacle of this guy peering down at the end of his belt lovingly as if his little peyote-induced pet were clearly visible to all.

An employee of the shop comes outside with the "not this shiat again" look in his eyes, approaches Mr. Dirty Hippie and stomps violently in the general area of the end of the belt/leash. Hippie's eyes and face draw down into infinite sorrow as he slumps his shoulders and slithers away. Something else he was on must have reincarnated his phantom puppy though because no sooner was he dancing out into the crosswalk against the signal and just barely missed by an oncoming double-decker bus. Hopefully it missed his "puppy" too. We all looked at each other, said nothing and smoked another joint.
