I have one yahoo and 3 gmail accounts (one for personal stuff such as bill paying etc., one that I only share with certain friends & one that I use for fark). I use the yahoo account as a throwaway email address, as I suspect many people do.

Use to have a hotmail account years ago.

I have a yahoo email I use for registrations etc. My main email is on my own domain name, so clearly I am superior to everyone else.

Yo mama so broke, she opened a gmail account just so she could eat the spam.

Hotmail still exists?

Bathia_Mapes: Use to have a hotmail account years ago.

I use hotmail as a throwaway address, well the yahoo one too but I never give it out since I always hated their name as it sounded so unprofessional for business purposes, @gmail sounds better than saying @yahooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.com

I have a hotmail account that is used for anything online.

As of November 9, 2011 Your Experian FICO ® score is: 823

"...certain states also have higher credit scores than others. The Dakotas and Wisconsin lead the country ..."

Not surprised to hear that about Wisconsin. We have this cheapskate culture that hasn't died off quite yet. Throwing money away on stupid things like servicing consumer debt always rubbed us[1] the wrong way.

Eventually I expect we'll regress to the mean as older generations shuffle off.

1. "us", in this context, does not include my almost-ex-wife

The sites I use my yahoo account on aren't ones I'm concerned about sounding professional. I have a gmail account I use when I want to sound professional.

One work email for interoffice stuff
One gmail that's for work and money related stuff
One gmail that's for website registration (like fark)
Two cellphone email address (Japan be crazy like that)

/ and a few hotmail/yahoo/aol/etc that probably aren't even active anymore

2011-11-29 12:54:19 AM
FTA:

Why this happens is probably due to some demographic skew which then carries to the email domain.

As a marketing intern in a previous life, I can tell you for certain that it's a demographic skew. Remember doing some extremely light statistical research that showed that Yahoo users tended to skew Black/minority for whatever reason.

". Interestingly, Gmail and Comcast users came out the top with a higher average, while AOL and Yahoo users had the lowest average credit scores."

I have:
A Comcast
Two Gmail
One dialup email (all my original contacts have this address)
And a Netscape.com

So my credit score is just as unusual as my email collection.

gmail addresses 4 sale... 50 dolla!

My e-mail address turns out to be the one bright spot in my credit score.

I was quite disappointed when they cancelled my 'gimmesomemoreimg.fark.netbustamail.com' address.

I basically use two emails. One for the internet (linked to my profiles or forums or whatnot) that's gmail and the other is for people in real life. Or, at least real life enough that they would have reason to know my full name, since the address is Firstname[nospam-﹫-backwards]emantsaL*com using google apps, so it's basically a gmail address. And I have no idea what my credit score is.

2011-11-29 01:13:40 AM
I have two e-mails:

A personal-ish one I use on websites, and a .edu from my university which is strictly srs bsns.

Heh! Yeah, probably.

My yahoo email address is downright boring compared to yours.

2011-11-29 01:30:17 AM
My in-laws use Yahoo exclusively for business. They also use the old, pre-multimedia yahoo messenger exclusively to communicate between rooms in their business. My FIL's insurance business email is @yahoo.com as well, as is mine. I tried gmail, but I couldn't figure out how to store stuff from twenty different email addresses dealing with one client and five different insurance policies in one separate place without using folders, so I stick with paying Yahoo $20 a year or whatever it is for their business email and it works just fine. People put off by my use of it aren't worth my time anyway.

Where does @ultrafark.com come in on this scale?

2011-11-29 01:34:57 AM
I don't really understand the reason behind switching email addresses all the time. Then I'd have to go and tell everyone my new address, then update all the different accounts I have. It's just too much of a hassle.

Comcast? That's only so high because only your old but frugal aunt doesn't realize she doesn't have to use the email address she got with her internet subscription.

2011-11-29 01:55:10 AM
2 yahoos
3 gmails
4 aols/aims/netscapes (so old that I refuse to close)

I literally check all 9 emails daily from my iphone. I think
the reason I have so many is because I'd forget handles
and passwords and have to open new accounts. Lol.

I have a Yahoo address. I initially opened it as a spamtrap, before things like mailinator existed. I still use it as such, but also for lower-value email I expect to get, or for contacts I don't want to be bothered by too much, but still might want to contact.

2011-11-29 02:15:27 AM
2 schools emails, one is an expired undergrad. One is for official med school and amazon prime.
3 gmails. One is official communication when I don't want shiat cluttering up my med school mail. One was an updated ebay, defacto forum signup. One was an alternative ebay account, defacto article comments section signups. It is obsolete since I discovered 10 minute email.
2 yahoos. This was to play yahoo games. I haven't used these in like 7 years.
1 AOL from 1995. This is for family and was for amazon/ebay.

Say what you will about Fark, they don't sell your email address to spammers. My account I signed up with has never had spam.

I have had a Yahoo email since 1995, I just never got rid of it. I also have a gmail, which works so much better, but I am still keeping my Yahoo as long as it exists.

I use Yahoo because of privacy concerns, basically.

Right now, there's one company that knows my real name (Facebook), one that knows everything I search for (Google, although I've largely switched to using DuckDuckGo lately) and one that has most of my private emails (Yahoo).

As long as none of those companies merge, I figure I should be fine.

The public and published e-mails for the newspapers I work for are all AOLs. The oldest of them gets about three spams to every useful item. I've begged the bosses for years to change them to no avail.

Our "internal" design team accounts are all @mac.com.

My personal e-mail is also an @mac.com address not tied to the business and has been for at least a decade.

/go ahead with the Apple hipster douche cracks. But my credit is good enough that I can afford it.

I had an hotmail account in 1996. That was before they were bought by Microsoft, and at a time I could still get a login that consisted of my quite common last name only, without any numbers added to it.
I was quite sad to have to get rid of it about 5 years later, but I had so much spam my regular mails were drowning in them.

I have an older friend with both an aol.com and Yahoo! address. He essentially did everything wrong when it came to dealing with spam, and he asked me to help him. I cleared his spam folders, started setting up a filter set, then saw he was getting one about every fifteen seconds, around the clock. I switched him to a whitelist, pronto.

/Businesses using a AOL or Yahoo email are especially lame. It's like giving your business address as "My bedroom, my Moms house...."

My friggin' employer has all our professional emails going through yahoo, some with cutesy names. It's really hard to convince vendors and especially clients to trust our abilities in IT when all the emails look something like 'billybobgoodday[nospam-﹫-backwards]oohay*com' or 'betsysuehotcocoa[nospam-﹫-backwards]oohay*com.'

What's really weird is that he is not even 40 years old and thinks this makes us accessible to non-IT types.

FTFA: Forget "red" state, "blue" state... certain states also have higher credit scores than others. The Dakotas and Wisconsin lead the country while Texas and Nevada have the lowest average credit scores.

Either that's completely false, or the map is. According to the map, Mississippi is over 20 points lower than Texas. In fact, if you were to head due east from Texas, only FL, GA, and NC are higher. And there are several states with higher average scores than the Dakotas.

Side note: Kansas' score is 666.

/just sayin'

Own domain (re-registered for 10 years).

But these days, I just redirect the e-mail to my domain, to my gmail address.

I just let google take care of the spam these days vs me having to keep tweaking spam assassin.
