Priceless.

This is the guy that blows a lot, right?

Shouldn't the citizens of Kansas be outraged that they pay for a staffer whose job is to monitor twitter and facebook?

2011-11-28 02:19:29 PM
So she tells the governor he sucks and he winds up apologizing to her? Awesome.

I hope this followup goes green. watching the fark authoritarians scream until they vomit up their lower intestines would be a hoot!

I don't think they'll be concerned until the governor has a D following his name. And they'll be highly concerned if the governor is also black.

So a staffer, totally on her own, went to the Principal of this school and tried to make this girl apologize?

Right.

Well, that's how the Archbishop of Canterbury was killed. Supposedly. Man, this is a really farking old excuse!

That's what I was going to say. From the prior green:

She was called to her school's principal's office, where the principal himself demanded that she write a letter of apology to the governor.

Still no cure for overzealous principals.

This is what happens when Internets are released upon your hide. Copius back peddling, finger pointing, and an assload of "MyBadBrah".

Why does the Kansan Governor need a social media cop? He either thinks he is way more important than he is or is very insecure with an elf peen.

Actually that's a pretty standard practice for all corporations, government agencies, and politicians no matter how large or small. Typically this is a part of a marketing department or a public outreach department. You want to know what people are saying about you and what mediums they're using to say it. That said, it's a massively bad idea in the instantaneous information age to target critics for what they say. That's just bad PR.

Hillary's an effective Sec. of State and I'm glad to have her. But my personal opinion of her has not changed over the years. She'll cuddle up to anyone she thinks will help her.

There's a whole subchapter on her in Jeff Sharlett's book, The Family. Right next to Mr. Brownback's.

I'm almost sad that this was greenlit, we've had a nice little banter going. Those awful rightists and trolls are going to ruin everything we've built here. Everything we worked for! Blood, sweat, and tears! All of it dashed to the ground like yesterday's recyclables. Only they won't be recycling. Noooo, no, not the rightists and the trolls. They'll smirk smugly as they toss the plastic and the aluminum into the garbage. They do it just to ruin our fun, I'm telling you.

Kind of makes you wonder which politicians have staff members monitoring FARK threads. You know, for some reason which I'm sure is perfectly harmless.

Google caches everything, and I mean farking everything. Even the dinkiest message board frequented by just three people. You might be surprised at how easy it is to use publicly available tools to keep tabs on everyone.

You people obsessing over "monitoring" are kinda cracking me up. Twitter tells you if you have a mention and most public figures check (or have staff check) what's being said about them regularly. It takes like 30 seconds. It's a lot less work than what the clipping agencies used to do.

Ok. But I have like...13 followers and I am very much not a public figure, and I don't even bother to check all of my mentions.

You're just one of the wee folk like the rest of us. No individual takes that amount of care. Corporations are not individuals; government agencies are not individuals; politicians are definitely not individuals. It's all about the brand recognition. The brand must be protected and preserved.

I'm not buying it either. And note he comes out this with AFTER she says she's not apologizing.

Had she been less of a brat we might never have known how petty he could be in his abuse of power.

The most classic of all politician defenses. "Oh, *I* was fine with it, being a hale and hearty All-American lad with a sense of humor, but that dastardly staffer just had to go and make a fuss!"

To really stick the landing one has to tie it all up with a paean to "the lack of personal responsibility in America today."

I missed this the first time I read the article, but Brownback goes on to state that "I also want to thank the thousands of Kansas educators who remind us daily of our liberties, as well as the values of civility and decorum."

Not only was it not his fault, but this is a backhanded apology. Freedom of speech is a big deal, yeah, but he's really mindful of the ideals of civility and of decorum which this hateful brat neglected negligently.

granted, Mr. Governor here is being hatefully passive-aggresive in his reply...but that's a far better response than using the powers of his office to demand an apology from a bratty high school student. snide passive-aggressive is acceptable (barely) in this instance.

"Just made mean comments at gov. brownback and told him he sucked, in person #heblowsalot"

That would come up in a search.

Someone pull an FOIA form out of the drawer. I want to know what his office and every other executive politicians office has done to quell dissent of teenagers.

Where is the conservative outrage? Gov't waste? Suppression of basic founding-father-type freedom?
