Hurray, just another thing Chinese people will claim that we invented.

This is hard to deny. The left one looks an awful lot like mine.

sure, if you need to collect the greatest amount of dog hair over the shortest amount of time.

/jeebus, I had a friend bring hers over a couple of weeks ago and by the end of the day it looked like I'd laid a brown and white blanket over my couch.

I've never owned a Corgi but a friend has one (named Ein, of course) that we dog-sat for over a weekend. LOVES people but doesn't jump on them and will play fetch for HOURS. Fun, adorable little dog. A big change from my lazy Great Dane.

I'm assuming all dogs have always come from East Asia and have never come from Eurasia?

Leave it to the Asians to make a couple hundred flavors of the same thing.

Nonsense. Best dog ever: Basset/beagle mix...aka 'Bagel'.

This one isn't mine, but the body structure, face shape, and ears are extremely similar. My dog is a tri-color though. Also, this pup looks like he/she is pretty young and maybe ~30lbs at most. Mine is about 55lbs.

Only 1984 has been referenced so far.

So go ahead, knock yourself out....

Wow, Fidoday starts even earlier than Catursday.
Anyway, the best breed is the English springer spaniel.

The Chinese used to be really good at inventing neat things then totally dropping the ball on the whole "development" stage.

China: oh hey these weird pseudo-wolf things are kinda neat. Let's eat 'em I guess. Or whatever.
Europe: lets breed them to kill things for us.

China: so compasses are fun for getting around, but we're pretty happy where we're at, big country and all. So let's just sit on the invention for now.
Europe: this will make it easier to find new people to kill and enslave.

China: oh hey this grey powder is cool, if you put fire to it it kinda lights up some. Let's make fireworks.
Europe: let's use that to kill EVERYONE.

Well, my ESS is 80 pounds, so he can be picked up. My Cocker is 30 pounds, but being a dog is real to him!

Well, it's a good breed. Dumb as a post, but very protective. I like my spaniels, because their seperation anxiety makes them come home in 5 minutes.

German Shepherds? Dumb as a post? I'd have to disagree with you, there. My German Shepherd/something mix is one of the smartest dogs I've ever met. At the very least, she really understands boundaries, so she doesn't need a fence or a leash. She can solve most of those dog puzzles pretty quickly, too. I'll agree with the protective part: she's very protective of my kids, even though she can't stand them. (She also has the softest fur I've ever felt, on a dog.) My Black Lab/Pit Bull mix, on the other hand, is an idiot.

I won't disparage you dog. Most of the purebreds I've encountered are not the brightest. May be inbreeding.

Separation anxiety seems to be a problem with my 8 month old puppy. I hope she grows out of it. And you have a 80 pound springer? That's huge! My pup is only 30 something, my childhood springer was 45 and my brother's is 60 some pounds and he's on a diet.

My ESS is 5 inches taller and 30 pounds over standard, and he's supposed to be the show dog breed. But he's sweet. Separation anxiety can be your friend, as you'll never have to drive around looking for your dog. But your puppy won't grow out of it.

My childhood dog was a show dog breed, as is my brothers, but mine is a field dog which I'm finding has its advantages.

As for separation anxiety, my childhood dog didn't have it until his final year or so and my brother's never has it. But my field dog hates being alone. I wonder if it's because of the breed.

All I know is life with the ESS got easier after we added the Cocker to the pack. Much less destruction.

You're right. When my brother brings his 5 year old springer and my 7 month old niece over, my dog matures instantly. Otherwise when left alone, she wants to destroy everything. Pack mentality is an amazing thing.

Yep. Instead of chewing on my shoes, they gnaw each other's ears.
