That wasn't very good and I regret having clicked it.

...That is by far the worst re-cut I've seen.

Wow, about a week ago somebody submitted this Link (new window) and I was confused. Now I think that the Video tab just needs to go the way of the Music tab....... that was terrible.

Am I missing some type of inside joke here?

Yep. Editor is tone-deaf as to what the right beats of a "teen comedy" are, and also has a pretty bad feel for pacing.

You're going to sit on the whole "lady goes back to the mailbox" scene for :22 (2:13-2:35) in a 3:00 trailer? If you're going to give 15% of your total runing time to a gag (closer to 25% after credits) -- the last gag befomre the title card, no less -- it better be killer (and not just reusing the actual gag from the movie). Also, the whole first minute does nothing to advance the point of the recut -- it's one thing to quickly establish a sense of seriousness and then undercut it with an immediate comedic turn, but this one sat on the serious tone for way too long and didn't really have anything strong to quickly undercut with.

The description says it was a film school project. I'd have given it a D, and that would've been a gift.

Seemed even darker than the original "Darko," (if that's even possible) But A+ for effort.

Having attended a film school myself, and working in the industry in picture editing right this second I'm getting a kick out of these replies.

Yes, it sucked. But then, everyone sucks in film school. You don't get good at what you do until you're at least a few years into working professionally... you can't teach film like it's medicine or welding. You're using technical know-how to represent something about the human condition. You need to actually work on films to learn how to go about it and have it feel authentic and polished.

What I'm really angry at is for the guy who posted it on You Tube not realizing that this is just a shiatty project from film school that no one needs to see.

That describes half of the content on the internet.

/The other half is pornography.

Yeah, but I give people who edit stuff on their home computers just to put something lullzy on the internet a break. They're not making freakin' Citizen Kane. Someone who's cut a trailer in film school should know better. That being said, I've seen stuff on You Tube that really is pretty effective from a film making standpoint.

And it is actually a source of shame for me that sometimes when I'm watching porn I'll ponder the cutting if it's particularly poor... :(

Is it too much to ask someone who is going to put all that effort into something to get the aspect ratio right?

No, you're most certainly not.

And... I think we should petition to find out who submitted / approved that referenced link.
