Denver OT drives:

Drive #1:
1st and 10 at DEN 20 (Shotgun) W.McGahee up the middle to DEN 36 for 16 yards (P.Oliver).
1st and 10 at DEN 36 (Shotgun) T.Tebow up the middle to DEN 39 for 3 yards (A.Cason).
2nd and 7 at DEN 39 (Shotgun) W.McGahee up the middle to DEN 44 for 5 yards (N.Diggs, E.Weddle).
3rd and 2 at DEN 44 (Shotgun) T.Tebow up the middle to DEN 45 for 1 yard (A.Barnes, C.Thomas).
4th and 1 at DEN 45 B.Colquitt punts 47 yards to SD 8, Center-L.Paxton. P.Crayton to SD 8 for no gain (D.Rosario).

2 runs for 4 yards. Willis McGahee does the heavy lifting.

Drive #2:
1st and 10 at DEN 30 (Shotgun) T.Tebow right end to DEN 29 for -1 yards (E.Weddle).
2nd and 11 at DEN 29 (Shotgun) T.Tebow pass incomplete short right to E.Decker.
3rd and 11 at DEN 29 (Shotgun) T.Tebow pass short right to J.Johnson to DEN 40 for 11 yards (P.Oliver). The Replay Assistant challenged the first down ruling, and the play was REVERSED. (Shotgun) T.Tebow pass short right to J.Johnson to DEN 39 for 10 yards (P.Oliver).
4th and 1 at DEN 39 B.Colquitt punts 61 yards to end zone, Center-L.Paxton, Touchback.

Drive #3:
1st and 10 at DEN 43 (Shotgun) T.Tebow pass incomplete deep right to J.Johnson.
2nd and 10 at DEN 43 (Shotgun) T.Tebow right end pushed ob at SD 45 for 12 yards (S.Gregory).
1st and 10 at SD 45 (Shotgun) T.Tebow right end to SD 41 for 4 yards (N.Diggs).
2nd and 6 at SD 41 (Shotgun) W.McGahee up the middle to SD 17 for 24 yards (S.Gregory, S.Phillips).
1st and 10 at SD 17 T.Tebow kneels, dead ball declared at SD 19 for -2 yards.
2nd and 12 at SD 19 M.Prater 37 yard field goal is GOOD, Center-L.Paxton, Holder-B.Colquitt.

They start with excellent field position. Tebow makes his one good play for the OT, which of course isn't a pass. Willis McGahee continues to be the best weapon. Tebow makes his case as a change-of-pace RB.

Wadded Beef: ...and ESPN continues to milk Tebow to the point of implosion for precious ratings/internet hits.

Kyle Orton is better than Tebow by most objective measures, despite the fact that he sucks. And Tebow is demolishing Orton's record. I am not sure that ESPN is milking much of anything. If you've watched Denver this year, you've gone from, "Why do they keep losing? This is ridiculous," to, "This is going to be an interesting game. They should lose. And at 5 minutes Tebow will manage, with McGahee's help or not, to lead them down the field." The ESPN guys are more shocked than the average person. They knew Tebow was going to fail. The level of crazy they are expressing shows how much the idea of Tebow winning a game, much less 5 or more games in a season, blows apart everything they say on a weekly basis. This is new territory for them. He's supposed to be worse than the third string quarterbacks who are in games now and losing them.

Yes, I've watched every Denver game this year. No, I am not a Tebow fan -- I've spewed more disdain for him than a lot of people even here on Fark. I absolutely did not want to see him on the field. And, no, it didn't have to do with religion (though that annoyed me, too) -- it went back to his college days when I thought he was absolute garbage, but had the one positive quality that people seemed to rally around him.

In the end, he is winning, I was absolutely wrong, and I'm shutting my damned mouth. He seems like a genuine kid, and when he's in they seem to win games. That's the whole point of professional sports.

2011-11-28 03:47:57 PM
Lord Huggington: The Broncos defense deserves way more credit than Tebow.

Nonsense. The Denver defense has been excellent on and off for years, and still they managed to find ways to fail. When the games were tight in the past, Denver would find a way to cough up the ball, punt it when they needed to go for it, or otherwise to do something miserable that would lose the game. Now you have a guy who can't complete a pass an average eight grader could, running through tiny holes and otherwise causing idiotic missed assignments because he is doing everything wrong. The McGahee does it all crap from a previous comment makes sense until you notice that McGahee is making it through holes he otherwise wouldn't because the opposing D is keying on Tebow, knowing he's going to run when he shouldn't, in places that he shouldn't go.

For clarity, I meant that ESPN is jumping on the polarizing (and, at times, stoking the conflict) aspect of Tebow for nothing other than increased ratings. Good for business, sure, but at some point it's going to reach critical mass and the world will start to collectively eyeroll at every Tebow-related article (I'm sure many Farkers here have done that already). Eventually ESPN will move on to the next story/conflict du jour after the returns for Tebow have fully diminished.

As for Tebow himself, he's a nice kid, Bronco football hasn't been this much fun in years but I'm still not sold on long-term success. Championships in today's pass-friendly NFL stem from scheming, innovation and precision (note your upper-echelon QBs and recent championships) and not being a college-throwback blunt object. I just don't buy it. Yes, Denver can run and beat so-so opponents but what happens vs. elite teams? I think Elway and Fox pretty much know this and the Broncos have a real PR situation come next April for the draft if they go for a conventional pocket-passer QB. And I think we'd all agree that ESPN will be there to pick up on the OMG TEBOWZFUTURE and milk it all over again.

Agree about Orton. He sucked for sure.

Kyle Orton completed 58.7% of his passes this year as a Bronco. Tim Tebow is at 45.5%.

If Orton sucked, Tebow is the worst thing ever.

It's the sudden defensive improvement making the difference, not the QB change.

Okay, let's get this out in the open once and for all: there are three reasons the Broncos are succeeding right now, all three of which are significant contributors.

1. The Bronco defense is playing lights-out
2. The Bronco offensive line is opening up huge holes for the running game
3. Tebow is contributing enough, in an unorthodox way, to get by

Take away any one of these elements and the Broncos are 2-9 right now. All three are necessary for the current success.

He's no Mark Sanchez, Tony Romo, etc. He generally doesn't give you that big passing play ability, but he also hasn't thrown any costly INTs yet, either. I know, I know, he hardly throws enough to get picked off, but the point is he seems to know his limitations, and doesn't to be a gunslinger when things get desperate. I'm a Gators fan, and certainly never expected him to succeed in the NFL, but every Sunday it seems I end up with a massive, raging Tebowner.

Orton passer rating: 75.7
Tebow passer rating: 80.5

Whoops. And that's without considering the fact that the Broncos traded away their top WR when Tebow became QB.

Willis McGahee: 5 100-yard games...3 with Orton, 2 with Tebow. Guess it's not McGahee that's the reason for the offense being better.

Denver points given up under Tebow: 15, 45, 24, 10, 13, 13

Yeah, they've played better...but they weren't terrible when Orton was playing, either.

If Orton were still the QB, the holes that develop on the inside dive wouldn't be there because linebackers wouldn't have to follow assignments in order to stop the option. Tebow being named quarterback has had much to do with the success of the running game. Of course, you can try running the dive option with Orton, I'm sure that would be a very successful strategy...

Perhaps true, but for whatever reason, when the rest of the team says Tebow is inspiring them to play their asses off, you have to believe it. Apparently Orton did not instill that kind of confidence; the only person who was hand-core for Orton was Brandon Lloyd.

Look, Tebow the person annoys me, and as a lifetime Bronco fan it pains me to some degree to root for him. But once he came in, the entire team started kicking ass and taking names, and for that I have to give Tebow props.

A good running game and a good defense can beat a lot of teams, especially since the passing threat is so prominent throughout the rest of the league.

There will be a shift back to focusing on the run eventually. I just hope the Broncos don't make the playoffs before then.

Gotta love people that didn't have the talent or athleticism to excel physically getting on their soapbox to condemn someone for making fun of someone else. Because they NEVER talk sh*t. Bob Costas made me want to punch his smarmy, self-fellating head through the TV last night.

I especially love that people who are paid for their opinions and to talk about every stupid thought they have with us would look down on someone and tell them that they should in no way express themselves. It's not enough that 95 percent of non-QBs are unrecognizable to even most football fans due to the helmets and lack of coverage of anyone else...now, during their three or so hours of spotlight, they shouldn't even be allowed to do anything that makes them stand out from anyone else, either.

I mean, granted, talking heads all seem to not want to stand out from anyone else - just look how everyone is jumping all over this like it's a story or a disgrace. It was funny and then Johnson embarrassed himself later by biffing a few passes on the potential game-winning drive. That made it funnier. Why do we have to condemn people for entertaining us?

Do these people get pissed off at concerts when the singer talks to the audience or maybe sings an extra verse or does something that slightly deviates from the way it sounds on the CD?

"JUST PLAY THE F*CKING SONG, NO ONE WANTS TO HEAR YOU TALK"

"My favorite player didn't celebrate! Therefore that's the way all players should play!"
