The guy gave the dog an extra bump by pushing upwards as the dog was launching off his back.

Not that the dog wasn't a good jumper, but that extra boost obviously helped.

It's a dog. The impressive part isn't the he jumped off the guys back and that he needed the guy to give him a bit of a boost, it's that he had a ton of training and was willing to trust the guy to give him the boost needed to not faceplant into that barrier.

To be fair, today's dog has a lot more to deal with than the dogs of yesteryear. They have Twitter and Facebook and the rest of the internet. They can't just learn a trade anymore; they also have to learn business management and learn how to juggle a work and family life. And don't forget the rawhide. Rawhide isn't what it used to be.

We had a German Shepard when I was a kid. Though I was impressed with the video I found myself wondering if the poor guy ended up with hip dysplasia since the breed is prone to it.

I have a 3yr old German Shepard/ Siberian Husky mix. Long/trim 75lbs and clears an 8ft wall whenever she feels like it.

Today's dogs are filled with steak and they bark like girls. They take steroids and will use any advantage they can over a cat. In my day, cats and dogs had respect for each other, and everybody thought the jumping dog was a thing of beauty, but you don't see that on today's modern internet, oh no.

If the dog hadn't cleared that spiked gate in the second jump...then what?

The sad part is that the dog has been dead for longer than most of us have been alive.

The cool part is that he has now been immortalized on the internet.

/Good dog...goooood dog...

They have dogs jumping long distances at Purina Farms near St. Louis. Granted, they land in water, but it's still pretty impressive.

it is well documented, especially by the American treasure that is Cassius Coolidge, that the dogs of yesteryear were little more than common thugs who ran speakeasies to support their habits of illegal gambling (where cheating was prevalent) and the consumption of alcohol (during Prohibition). Hollywood tried to paint a picture of a heroic canine with actors like Rin Tin Tin but the sad, true, behind-the-scenes story is that "man's best friend" had devolved into a world of gluttony, vice, and bizarre Masonic/Satanic rituals.

I found it a little disturbing to see him jumping over that wrought iron thing, so that if he doesn't make it, he gets torn wide open. Nice.

I think that dog was receiving some kind of performance enhancer.
