Maybe I just don't understand TOSU, but 6-6 for an interim head coach doesn't sound half bad to me. That guy should land on his feet somewhere.

Rumor is he stays at Ohio State as an assistant to Meyer.

Always had a clause saying that he could go and coach at Ohio State.

I just want someone to explain the stress/health related issues that caused him to leave Florida. Also, I want to know why he isn't expecting those issues to return at Ohio freaking State.

I don't get it. Is spending time with his family not as important this year?

With Urban's mercenary mentality, every Michigan fan is hoping to see that again. After the Notre Dame fanbase runs Kelly out of town, seeing the Irish grab up Meyer would be glorious.

It's a good hire and hopefully Fickell gets retained. The dude walked into a 5 alarm blaze for tOSU and did his best. Be interesting to see what Meyer does on the offensive side of the ball.

2011-11-28 09:40:27 AM
But he said he wasn't offered any job and wouldn't return to coaching? I never understood why the media doesn't care that the figures they cover lie constantly.

Nobody is upset with the job Fickell did. He performed admirably BUT he is not ready to take over a program of that size yet. That record is more a testament to recruiting and previous coaching than anything Luke did this season. Let him learn further under Meyer and become the heir apparent. It's not like Meyer has shown any longevity at his previous gigs.

/ All that said, give Luke a BIG raise. He did very well given the circumstances
// Ok Meyer, recruit the hell out of SEC country and let slip the nuts of war ... wow, felt dirty typing that ... new form of brain hanging?

no he is not, he will have thanksgiving dinner with his family, he said

Didn't get the memo, subby?

It's An OSU now.

Sorry.

Have fun trying to get guys to come to columbus, nice warm weather and the hottest women, no wonder the sec wins recruiting battles. Columbus is a shiathole.

Although it would be nice to see his heart explode on the sidelines during the OSU/Mich game.

Oh and did anyone else catch Leonard pope calling UGA "THE" University of Georgia last night on the Sunday game intros? I wanted to slap him through the TV.

I'm so relieved that Urban Meyer took the head coaching job at Ohio State. For a minute there, I was worried that we wouldn't be able to rank them in the Top 5 next year.

2011-11-28 09:45:00 AM
Like no one saw this one coming a good 2 weeks ago.

Unlike THE Ohio State University, we actually beat Meyer and Tebow of Nazareth.

Bring it.

2011-11-28 09:45:14 AM
Also, about the headline:

Meyer may accept the job in the future, even today, but Armstrong stressed that a deal is not done. There were several reports last week that Meyer was going to be Ohio State's next coach. One even when as far to report the terms -- $40 million over seven years.

/still likely a done deal

Taunt the Falcons at your own peril...or not. Maybe this will open up more opportunities for BGSU football to take a beating/rake in some tv money if Urban decides to throw them a bone?

Urban Meyer need not worry about time away from family to recruit for OSU. They just make those players job offers.

The man really is a miracle worker. In just one year he got rid of a serious medical condition and watched his kids grow up.

I'm eagerly awaiting the coming photoshops.

So, it's now being confirmed before the ink is even dry on the next OSU recruit?

And went from "haven't even been approached" to "struck a deal" in, like, a week. Life just happens so fast with Urban Meyer.

Who cares, the rumor mill is Mike Leach is going to be the new Coach at Wazzu!

Lock the closets!

Florida I understand; beaches and biatches year round. But all of the deep south schools - Alabama, Auburn and LSU - do well, and they're shiatholes; just really hot shiatholes.

Followup:
I think Ohio has some kind of state law about minium job posting time for public jobs. Not sure when tOSU posted the coaching vacancy, but this might have to wait a few days before they can make it official. Hence the backpedaling.

What I don't get is that why would Ohio State hire someone like Meyer. With the recent trouble they have been in you'd think they would hire someone who has a better appearance of being clean.

It sounds like a Michigan RichRod coach shopping kind of situation.

ZOMG we have tons of money lets buy a big name!

2011-11-28 10:36:57 AM
Just wait tOSU fans, you think your players get in trouble now. I don't think any school in the country had more player arrests than the Florida-led Urban Meyer teams, yes, including the Tebow years.

RR was a knee jerk reaction to teams (OSU, Penn, etc) getting much faster than Mich for a few years. Mich thought a spread offense would close the gap, increase recruiting AND get them national/bcs exposure. He was in no way a "Michigan Man".

Meyer is an OSU guy. Always has been. This is a case of a son coming home. RR was a mercenary working for his next boss - and I don't mean that negatively - just that this was a good job for RR. This is a dream job/professional culmination for Meyer.

The stress was caused by having a mediocre team, when he has a good team his health is fine.

I think you should save that for threads where it's actually relevant.

That should keep Urban entertained for, oh, maybe three years.
The man is easily distracted and bored. He isn't known for long term commitments to programs.
Make no mistake, he'll bring OSU back to the top, but he's a short-term solution at best.

But one of them will go of to junior college for a year, be paid off from a Big Ten Rival, win the Heisman, and then win the National Championship.

People seem to forget Meyer could have already been at Notre Dame but chose Florida instead. If he wanted to go to South Bend he would have done it then.

Supposedly Fickell will be retained as assistant head coach and likely D coordinator should Heacock (a Tressel guy) hang it up. No one knows anything for sure but there are strong indications Luke will be taken care of and I believe he went into this knowing that was the case. I think he did very well considering.

I see Meyer using Miller much in the way he played Chris Leak in 06. Miller is more of a pocket passer who can run but should look good in the spread. Kid has game but was a little geeked about his 1st Michigan game and had some bad overthrows at key moments.

Things being what they are I am happy with the direction the program is headed which is hard to believe considering what us fans were looking at just 8 months ago.
