I just assumed this was SOP for Putin. That and the whole "I'm not going to line people against the wall like Stalin, but I'll get as close as I can until you people stop farking up."

I can't blame the guy for trying to keep his very chaotic country to stay in one piece, but for some reason whenever a Russian politician tries to do the right thing like any straight-up Western leader would, it seems like he does it in the most heavy handed, dickbag authoritarian way possible.

How is this different than all of the people in this country calling for the heads of everyone involved with the O-rings faults in the Challenger crash?

Look at the history of this sad country. It's been one authoritarian dickbag after the other for hundreds of years.

Ah, the Russian Tea Party. They're the same everywhere.

Mr. Right: How is this different than all of the people in this country calling for the heads of everyone involved with the O-rings faults in the Challenger crash?

Perhaps because the current Soviet (whoops, Russian) leadership actually has the ruthlessness and will to actually follow through with the threats, whereas it seems that only middle managers ever get punished in Western countries for similar failures, and only by demotions/firing (and not imprisonment/execution) at that...

Considering that it was also a country that was fairly attacked from all directions, I can't say I'm surprised.

Because no one got hurt?

This will definitely encourage Russians to join the space program.
"Do the hardest shiat that anyone in human history has ever done! OR ELSE"

I'm a programmer myself, but I don't think I'd want to do a job where one uncaught bug could mean prison time, let alone a mechanical failure that wasn't even my fault. Hell, the only people qualified to figure out what went wrong are the ones he's threatening here.

How many people died in the collection of recent Russian space mishaps again??

One of the key differences between the first world and the third world is the completely opposite values placed on life vs. property. In the first world, life is precious and property is cheap, while in the third world, property is precious and life is cheap.

It's not really that hard to understand the third world mentality; the only real barrier is overcoming one's unwillingness to consider the implications stemming from the values reversal.

The Soviet Union and its allies were the second world, the third world was the countries not allied with NATO or the Warszawa Pact. Sigh.

Now a days you use the term developed and developing. Obviously Russia would be developed.

Ah yes, changing the definitions in an effort to eliminate ideas by removing the words that can express them. It never really works, but it doesn't stop authoritarian pacifists from doing it constantly, because it's the only weaapon they have at their disposal.

So, is there a word in your dictionary for a country that used to be "developed," but is now backsliding into a state that makes "developing" countries look like economic superpowers in comparison? Because that seems to be where Russia is headed.

/developing: the most patronizing euphamism since "specially abled"

you mean like China, who hide behind the "developing" label so they can skirt their responsibilities and ignore international protocols?

Yomoxu: It may not improve morale, but it will improve efficiency, one way...or another.

No it won't. It will foster crime and black markets. And ultimately revolution. People have a way of coming to a point of NOT tolerating a dictator no more. Generally a bloody affair.

No, actually, it wouldn't. Russia isn't considered an advanced economy by the CIA nor the IMF, and they're ranked at 66th on the UN's Human Development Index.
