Good thing Jim Boeheim categorically denied the initial allegations and called the accuser a liar.

It's cool, he covered his ass:

"The allegations that have come forth today are disturbing and deeply troubling. I am personally very shocked because I have never witnessed any of the activities that have been alleged," said Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim in a statement. "I believe the university took the appropriate step tonight. What is most important is that this matter be fully investigated and that anyone with information be supported to come forward so that the truth can be found. I deeply regret any statements I made that might have inhibited that from occurring or been insensitive to victims of abuse."

Well, that tape sounded pretty damning.

ESPN had that tape since 2003! and did nothing with it. Any one at ESPN that knew about this tape should be fired.

Has this guy been charged with anything? Just allegations?

The phone conversation between Davis and Fine's wife is incredibly weird.

foo monkey: Has this guy been charged with anything? Just allegations?

No. And unless somebody comes forward with allegations of abuse less than 5 years ago, he can't be. In PA, they changed the statute of limitations in response to the clergy abuse cases. This has not happened in NY.

BTW, am I the only person who is a little creeped out that Fark is placing these kiddie diddling threads under the "sports" tag? Really good sports.

So, he's been fired because three people claimed he abused them? This reminds me of an episode of It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia. Put him on administrative leave to make a point. Firing him before he's even entered the court system is scary.

Michael Jackson threads were in entertainment. I think you're being a little oversensitive.

JoPa didn't do the crime but was fired for it. How is this guy "administrative leave" material?

Listen to the tape.

On one hand you have accuser number 3 who says he was molested by Fine once, but whose own father says he is full of shiat and that he was never anywhere near Fine. This guy is also about to be tried in his own pedo trial. I wonder if he is setting up his defense? Fine touched me and turned me into a pedo, type thing.

On the other hand the tape of the other accuser talking to Fine's wife is downright creepy.

/I don't know what to believe at this point.

For one thing, Paterno had knowledge of a crime but didn't report it to law enforcement. And you can bet that if JoPa had picked up the phone and called the university's police chief at home, the chief would have been running with lights and siren to get to Paterno's house. The coach screwed up on SOOO many levels.

Fine hasn't been arrested or even charged. And there's enough questions floating around about the case (a tape that police and ESPN had since 2003, the fact that one of the accusers is under arrest for child molestation, and another who slept with the coach's wife) that you don't fire him. You put him on admin leave with pay, ban him from the campus, and see how it all shakes out.

Your logic is great except McQueary still has a job.

Not MY decision. I can think of more than a few people who need to lose their jobs at Penn State.

ESPN has just as much knowledge of a crime or more that that JoPa did. As MattyFridays said McQueary still has a job and he SAW IT IN PERSON HAPPEN and did not pick up the phone.

MattyFridays: McQueary still has a job.

I read somewhere that Penn State may have issues summarily canning him due to whistleblower laws (new window). It would explain quite a lot.

Whistleblowing would have been going to the cops when it happen, not helping cover it up with Penn State when Penn State stated to cover it up.

What McQueary did was a Whistle-whisper.

McQueary blew a whistle that most people can't hear, like a dog whistle.

Although had a dog been in the area, I think it would have done more to help the kid than McQueary did.

Well, they have to put them somewhere, and it does involve a basketball coach. Although if the new stories continue to pop up at the current rate fark may need to create a separate tab for them.

I might be mistaken but he also is claiming his father molested him so it would not be surprising if the father called him a liar because he is in trouble too. Hard to say what the truth is but the young (also in trouble as you said) had one odd element to his story. Talks about Fines molesting him on one occasion and then on a later occasion spending a night at Fine's house where nothing happened. Why talk about about an occasion when nothing happens? Seems like an odd way to lie (over very clever I suppose).

Maybe McQueary should hang. Maybe he shouldn't but I think would agree that what ever is decided the goal should be to prevent this from happening again.

If that caused is best served by destroying McQueary. So be it. If it is best served by destroying the people he reported it to (so be it) and protecting McQueary as a whistle-blower, so be it. If destroying all of them will teach the right lesson to future staff/coaches, that's fine too.

I'm more interested in what is best to prevent this from happening again (anywhere) and if that means protecting real whistle-blowers (that's great), if it means a scorched earth policy, I'm cool with that also.
