(ESPN) Interesting Sorry F1 snobs, but it looks like it'll rain on your parade for the finale in Brazil. Your overpriced toys will actually have to rely on driver skill to stay on track, and there may even be passing. Live at 11 AM ET, if you can stomach it   (espn.go.com) divider line 72

Shoo. Away with you. We feed no trolls here.

Racing with water on the ground? That's UnAmerican! The next thing you know they'll be turning left and not letting everyone use the exact same car.

/Go Lotus! Get a point and some of Bernie's money.

Read something about how there are more lead changes in one NASCAR race than in an entire F1 season...

// No dog in this fight, really, I don't watch either.

2011-11-27 10:49:48 AM
Well, four comments in and this thread is already a cluster. *rolls eyes*.

Not a huge F1 fan, but I watch from time to time. Since Vettel already locked up the big trophy(again...), we're here to see who wins the race, lol.

/I can has Schumacher win?
//Auto racing fan.
///Yes, you can enjoy NASCAR and F1. Blasphemy, I know.

Dang, got me there subby. I guess I'll just have to go back to "debris" cautions every 20-30 laps, more drama about who's saying what about who than racing, a reset of the points for the last 12 races that makes the first part of the season useless, and identical (barring a few decals) cars designed for running close together so the fans can have their 4-5 crashes a race.

If you wanna watch a soap opera, watch NASCAR.
If you wanna watch great drivers run a real race, watch F1 (or ALMS, or LeMans, or any other real circuit racing).
If you wanna watch the best drivers in the world get breathtakingly close to dying every 20 seconds, watch WRC.

2011-11-27 10:55:34 AM
I would be very happy if Lotus/Caterham would get a point. It'd make the Vettel domination worth it.

2011-11-27 11:00:02 AM
I hope Ruben can get a good send off today. He does seem to be a truly great great person.

Plus unlike NASCAR drivers he can race when its raining. And turn left and right in the same race.

2011-11-27 11:00:22 AM
I hope everyone pulls over and lets Rubens win.

2011-11-27 11:03:30 AM
Here we go. C'mon Weber, beat Vettel to turn 1.

2011-11-27 11:03:36 AM
Round and round they go, whomever Vettel forces off, nobody knows.

/Probably Alonso

2011-11-27 11:04:44 AM
Dammit, Mark. Okay, at least stay within a second for DRS... please?

2011-11-27 11:05:21 AM
russlar: I hope everyone pulls over and lets Rubens win.

I'd take a Barrichello win, too.

/And we're off!

Why do i get the feeling that Vettel's engine is turned up just a little bit more than every one elses at the start? He seems to be able to pull away quickly then settles down so that could be a high setting then after one lap he turns it down.

Plus Massa had to pull back from Hamilton on the start or have his nose taken of.

2011-11-27 11:12:11 AM
Go Ferrari!

2011-11-27 11:16:39 AM
Damn it!

Bruno, you are NOT your Uncle. Thanks for screwing up Schumacher's day.

Hamilton had to break early or do the same thanks to Mark's abysmal start. As to the Vettel question, I'd say it's part an extension of his ability to put together a hot lap in qualifying, but starting from poll means they can set up his car with slightly less downforce. They put all their eggs into the starting basket. If he can get away from the pack, his car is perfect for running in clean air. Yet when we've seen him get in traffic of the competitive sort, his race goes a bit to shiat. At first I ascribed that to skill like most folks, but now I think it may be an extension of that car setup.

F1 snobs like rain. We place drivers who excel in the rain on a pedestal. I like NASCAR, but it's a a pedestal they can't even fathom. Who is the best NASCAR driver in the rain? It's a ridiculous question. I don't care abut all the turning left and right jokes, but logistically, technologically, and as a matter of skill, rain racing is something that really is on the next level...over the horizon, too.

Honestly, the argument can be made that the only thing keeping Sprint Cup cars on even a dry track the last several years is the safer barriers. NASCAR has become over-cautioned and under-talented. Remember when you raced at Bristol, and you got turned around you...had to turn yourself around? There are more safety cars in F1 now too. Jacques Villeneuve's tire ensured we wouldn't have field marshals running on track to retrieve chunks of car. But still, F1 remains a test of endurance and speed. I used to joke that Ricky Rudd had debris in the cockpit he could throw out so he could stay on the lead lap. That and a box full of hot dog wrappers to throw out at Daytona. "You're gonna overheat! And you! And you!"

(One year my friends and I thought it would be cool to advertise our business by slipping business cards into the fences at the 24hrs of Daytona... the last year before they lit everything up...it was 30 degrees...we kept the keg of Bass on air. Anyway, we when the sun came up we realized that our cards were stuck all over the cars intakes. Not our fault...how many intakes did the Panoz need? CSB).

But now we know NASCAR has the debris...or at least the flags.

Also, this year in F1, the best driver did win the championship. And it pains me to say that. I remember when my favorite driver was Young Jenson Button, instead of just Jenson Button.

Who said anything about NASCAR?
Anyway get off your pedestal and make with a decent stream if you got one.

There is hope yet. If Vettel is already short shifting 2 gears, we could see those two gears all over the track before the day is done.

Rough day for Senna.

No good. Been there tried that

Whoops. Looks like Maldonado's having a bad day.

Oh, come ON, Vettel. You're having mechanical issues, deal with it.

2011-11-27 11:41:13 AM
Sorry, Weber, but it looks like Vettel is faster than you. Do you understand this transmission?

"Short shift every corner every lap"

Over/under 40 laps?

2011-11-27 11:44:19 AM
Ok now bring on the rain.

2011-11-27 11:44:22 AM
Okay, so far in the race Bruno Senna has hit Schumacher, gotten a drive through penalty, dropped wing bits on the track and had to come in to change it, and now he's having transmission problems... Did he take a dump on his uncle's grave or something? That is one hell of a disastrous race.

2011-11-27 11:45:38 AM
Is anybodys car running right?

How exactly do you suggest he "deal with it"?

Possible rain in 10 minutes

(Ferrari could be lying for lulz, though.)

afghanwhiggle: How exactly do you suggest he "deal with it"?

I think he was suggesting he do what eventually happened: "Deal with" the blow to his ego and pull over. It's not like he didn't owe Mark one.

The commentators were observing it sounded as though he was complaining about the obvious over his radio(he'd fall behind if he let Weber pass him). Not much you can do about it, so pull over, let the faster car go, and try to finish the race, never mind win it.

I didn't mean "literally" deal with it, I meant mentally.

Ferrari just shat the bed. And dear lord Perez's car looks like a handful.

Ah I've been getting a choppy feed, missed him on the radio. Bummer he had to duck in on turn one.

Still wondering if Ferrari knows something we don't.

Brazil is hard on transmissions, I guess. Geez.

Senna
Vettel

and now, Lewis Hamilton.

2011-11-27 11:55:38 AM
Vettel, Hamilton and Senna have gearbox issues. This is turning into an old fashion realiability game

2011-11-27 11:56:51 AM
Reports that it's raining in the city. Still no sign at the track.

Uh oh. Hamilton and Massa are near each other on track. Instantly Hammie starts smoking the tires, heh.

2011-11-27 12:02:31 PM
If Hamilton is going to intermediates, that's a sign they expect the rain to hold off for the rest of the race.

Ah well, looks like that strategy move won't help Hamilton at all. Ouch.

LOL @ Bob Varsha on the SPEED feed: "He's got a gearbox full of neutral right now."
