From the Wikipedia article (new window): Futsal is a variant of association football that is played on a smaller pitch and mainly played indoors. Its name is a portmanteau of the Portuguese futebol de salão and the Spanish fútbol de salón (colloquially fútbol sala), which can be translated as "hall football" or "indoor football".

So I guess futsal is to soccer what arena football is to football.

Sort of. Traditional indoor soccer is played with a normal ball and usually on synthetic grass of some sort. Futsal is played with a smaller ball that has less bounce, which emphasizes ball skills, and it's played on a hard court.

It's what your mom does to us guys for loose change and a bottle of rubbing alcohol that's been filtered through a piece of burnt toast.

I remember playing end-zone football as a kid (Arlington, TX, late 60s) where play took place entirely within the end-zone and goals were scored through the goal-posts. I've never seen this game played anywhere since then, or am I just not paying attention?

Misread that as "Futanari."

Indoor soccer also often has..what do you call that in English.."boards" maybe?
You know, no sidelines or goallines, instead it's enclosed like an ice hockey rink and balls bounce back

I don't think Futsal has boards so that makes it a bit more challenging to keep the ball in play.
And I believe the goals are smaller: Futsal uses handball goals (3m x 2m) while indoor soccer uses the slightly wider children-sized soccer goals (5m x 2m ).
In Germany, anyway. YMMV.

If some guy gets stabbed in the neck during a mini soccer/football/rugby/tictactoe game for deaf people, does he make a noise?

2011-11-27 08:45:36 PM
I guess the point is, being deaf can be a real pain in the neck.
