Yeah, who wouldn't jump at the chance to buy cheap meat of unknown origin, sanitation, and preservation from a stranger selling it door to door?

/Does that come with a free course of antibiotics?

Just so everyone's clear, a lot of U.S. ranchers are Republican, and most of them still view rustling as a shootable offense.

So, you know. Don't get caught.

FTFY.

"If under duress of loss of property due to illegal means of trespass, lethal force may be instituted."

Montana, Wyoming, North Dakota, South Dakota, Texas, Alaska and Idaho still have this on their books. It's what makes us the sane part of the country.

"911?"
"Yeah, I'm about to lose $7,500 from 3 head of cattle being stolen in a two-ton truck with a cattle cart, I'll need a patrolman to come out here..."
"And do what, Sir? Carry them in the trunk? Also, since this is a livestock matter, it is out of our jurisdiction and must be taken up with the State Department of Interior."
"So... should I just scare them off with a warning shot?"
"That would probably work best. Failing that, go for the legs."

Ah, because instant death penalty for $7,500 worth of property is "sane".

Here in the insane parts of the country we just file an insurance claim.

You heard it here first from Jedekai, folks: 1 human life = $7,500. And this makes him the sane one.

Yeah.. and the perps go elsewhere and steal some more. while our insurance rates go up and the lawyers get richer.. to give you a clue, it's not about the 'value amount', It's that they are STEALING it... if you wish to allow your property to be stolen, and don't have the cahones to stop them, don't file a claim.. at that point you are stealing from us ... steal from me, you will get shot.

Actually, one person broke the law, deprived someone of their lawful belongings that they earned, and received a lesson they had a short time to think about... others, that are considering the same path, will reconsider their priorities and think about that lesson.. hopefully they will learn.

It's stealing to file a legitimate insurance claim now? You're really selling me on this "sane" thing thus far.

It's not as if shooting someone is free. It's going to involve a lawyer, a police investigation (you pay taxes, right?), and a whole lot of your time. Probably substantially more than $7.5k worth.

Actually, one person broke the law, deprived someone of their lawful belongings that they earned, and received a lesson they had a short time to think about... others, that are considering the same path, will reconsider their priorities and think about that lesson.. hopefully they will learn.

Right, because criminals have a track record of carefully weighing the potential consequences. This explains our empty prisons.

*Ahem*

I have not heard of one single person being shot while trying to rustle either cattle or sheep in all my years of living in the west.

It's kind of like when they tell you that every wolf they see, they shoot it. Funny how now that you can shoot them legally, and 10 bazillion people have wolf tags, we're nowhere close to meeting the quota, and they've had to extend the season. Seems that not as many people blow away wolves as they claim.

Does this count that freaky little refrigerated truck guy selling meat all over San Diego last year? I'm somewhat ashamed to say I bought from the guy, but in my defense (and his, I guess) the quality of the beef was pretty f*cking good.

The only cut that seemed dodgy was the bacon-wrapped one.

Suspect last seen wearing brown paper shirt, brown paper hat, and brown paper trousers. Wanted for rustling.
