If a man wrote those books women would be screaming how sick and perverse it is.

Really if the name was Stephen Meyer on the cover of the manuscript it wouldn't even have been published. Even if by some miracle it was, women everywhere would be screaming how it horribly portrays young girls.

The sick thing is they would be right, yet a woman "writes" this shiat and it's all good. I would like to see a psychologist read these books and give us an opinion on it and the potential damaging affects on young people. I would not let my son or daughter read this stuff, it's just sickening.

If people knew more about Stephanie Meyers and where her ideas came from lots of people would have a problem with them as well. The books are, strangely, heavily influenced by her Mormon beliefs.

Arthur Christmas, Hugo and The Muppets split up audiences with children and taste between them, Twilight took 100% of lonely women.

My wife went to see Twilight, and nicely didn't ask me to come along. She did come with me when we went to see Immortals. Her comment? Twilight was a better film than Immortals. The sad part is that I believe that's is possible.

I gotta disagree with this part. Now, I am not a parent, but I believe you (the general you, not the specific) SHOULD let them read it, but read it along with them and discuss it with them. Explain to them WHY the relationships presented are troubling and just downright creepy. Forbidding them from reading it, or anything really, is only going to make them sneak around you to read it, and then they get all those lovely messages in their heads without any kind of perspective.

As far as I know none of those things happen in the books. Women submitting to men and not having an abortion when it could save their life do, however.

pretty much this. Parents banning their kids from reading/listening/watching any kind of entertainment is almost never going to work. I think parents who do invest way too much stock in what some crappy book says.

Add my name to the "don't blame me list". I saw The Muppets and Hugo this weekend. Hugo was the better film, but The Muppets was still a blast. Jim Parsons had the best cameo in my opinion. Perfect casting on that one! Oh, and Hugo was the first movie I've seen since maybe Avatar that the 3D was actually worth the few extra bucks. Highly recommend both.

What about Battlestar Galactica? That's basically "The Book of Mormon...IN SPAAACEE!!" Lots of things in art and popular culture are influenced by religious beliefs. I don't see what's so strange about it and why people should necessarily be bothered by it. Twilight does suck though.

The difference is, in BSG, they're not necessarily damaging to girls' perceptions of relationships in that they don't show such an abusive relation ship as being overly-idealized and what one should look for in romance.

Yes, yes, not really, yes and mostly brick and mortar, some paint, and the seats were plastic, foam and screws.

It was good. The best bits were, of course, Muppets centric, but the humans in it weren't obnoxiously obsequious. Lots of clever bits, some nice references to previous movies, especially The Muppet Movie, and, in general, worth the price of admission. Lots of jokes that my kids got, lots of jokes the grown ups got, and most of those were the same jokes.

I haven't read the book, so I can't answer that with much confidence. I would imagine if anyone is going to show respect to the source material, it's going to be Scorsese

Go read it, then. It's quite a nice blend of storytelling techiniques. The illustrations manage to convey the story just as well as the words do, and they go rather seemlessly from one to the other and back. I just hope that some of the images from the book make it into the film.

I saw it in the theater. I'm 32, my husband is 37 and we don't have kids.

That said, I found it to be mediocre to staggering levels.

i haven't been to a movie theater since the abortion that was Shrek 3.
Made an exception with Mrs Smiths last night for this movie.

Granted, it's not a movie that "must be seen in theaters" in any way, but was worth getting out of the domicile on a Saturday.

The humans knew their parts and mocked the hell out of it, too. ("Oh I'm sure.. I just sang a song about it and everything")

Segal 100% truly looked like he was enjoying the ever-loving hell out of it. And all the celebrities, sans the "Disney required us to put these teeny bop whatever they are into this movie" duo that shows up truly looked like they enjoyed having a part in the movie.

It built up to a great crescendo when the actual "Muppet Show" started, and at that moment it felt like I was watching the old show again, but with random "plot points" thrown in. Just plain enjoyable.

Not an "A+ BEST MOVIE OF YEAR" movie, but really was fun.

Theater was a mix of families with young kids to 20-35 year old couples with no kids. And many of the families with 10-14 year old children actually seemed to split up from the kids to watch it. There were a lot of "you and your sister/friends sit on that side of the theater while mom and I sit here"

Was it worth the $21 for two tickets? Not sure... that's a high ticket price for a theater that f'd up the sound and required multiple complaints before the projectionist finally boosted it. First time back in a theater since 2007 and I had to complain to a manager... and I really don't like being the "complain to the manager" type.

So all rambling aside, definitely a fun little movie that doesn't take itself too seriously and is a definite callback to the non-costumed Muppet movies of old.

/maniacal laugh....
