"Both were denied, but the LGIS said valuable time was being wasted by investigators playing private detectives for "frivolous" swindles."

May I suggest this idiocy be curbed by imposing a financial penalty on these sorts of claims.

May I suggest council offer to give her the bird instead?

I'm an "idiot" with expensive glasses (though not brand name). I can't imagine blaming someone else if a damn bird flew off with them. Of course, the bird would have to take them off my face, not my head, because I use my glasses for seeing, not showing.

Nah, some people are still idiots. Brick and mortar optician wanted to charge me $680 for glasses with transitions lenses (non-designer frame). Just went online to GlassesCrafter (new window), picked up a pair of Hugo Boss frames, and with transitions and extra-thin lenses, paid $201 shipped. Have kept the frames for a few years and put my new prescription in since.

Bifocals are a different deal altogether. They must have been progressive lenses.
Yes, the markup on that stuff is astronomical.

This is part of the 99% mentality. Some people feel the need to biatch because someone else makes more money then they do and biatch even louder when they spend it, never fully realizing how farking stupid they are for not being able to make money off this.

There's no hate for people who do that. There's hate for people who want really really stupid shiat. $900 sun glasses (hell, $200 sun glasses). $300 sneakers. $100,000+ cars. 5,000+ sq ft houses for 2 people. Herman Cain. $500 cell phones.

Well, if the person is whining and trying for to get compensated for their frivolous purchase they can't really afford the it, can't they now. You know what I'm saying? Especially if she's trying to score off from the 99%.
I would be more impressed if she just shrugged off the loss and bought another pair, thus creating more jobs.

If she really wanted them, she wouldn't have left them where a bird could get them.

She deserves to go without for a year and a day as punishment for being a titanic coondertwunt. There used to be a piece of headgear that locked onto your head and put sharp iron spikes into your mouth so talking was all but impossible. That's not quite what we've got here, but suing for new glasses because a bird took yours is basically the same as walking into a police station and asking them to come fix your meth lab. YOU ARE AN IDIOT!

I probably shouldn't feed trolls, but you don't get it at all, and it's sad. The 99% are not anti-corporate, they are anti-corporate CRIME.They are not anti rich people, they are anti rich people who get that way by unethically farking over the rest. Either there is a social contract or not. And if there's not, then you'd be onboard with the 99% stringing up a few of the 1% and taking their shiat by force then, yes? Survival of the fittest and what not.

The concept that the poor are envious is (like racism) part of the rich's very successful divide and conquer strategy. I don't know you, but I doubt you're really rich, like 8-figure net worth rich. Those kinds of people consider even people making a quarter million per year just as much dregs as your run of the mill $8/hr temp. Broader broader social commentary aside, people have every right to buy $900 sunglasses, and people who don't have every right to clown on them for it.

This is something I don't understand. Why would you buy $900 sunglasses? You can get $5 sunglasses at the drug store that do the very same thing.
Buying some super expensive things are understandable, like if they have better materials, require more labor, and do a better job (e.g., luxury car vs. your '94 Geo). But if you're buying $900 sunglasses that were made in China with child labor and don't protect your eyes from UV rays any better than cheap knock-offs, what's the validation for such a mark-up? Hell, I could get sunglasses with circular polarized lenses for $15.
I get that it's supposed to be a status symbol, but $900 could buy you some snazzy Louboutins which look better and at least serve some purpose.

/pinko fair market commie

And jesus farking christ, my mom lost her glasses once in the ocean. She didn't sue the state of Delaware or call the Coast Guard.

*reads article*

Oh, ok. They're bifocal transition lenses. That makes them more valuable...
Wait, is vision not covered under Australian healthcare? They'd still only be worth about $500-600.
