Had a drink with him many times. He was a hoot. Beautiful, wild human being. And one of the greatest life stories I've read (didnt read the linked article but nola.com has a nice obit.) His local hang out was a block from my house.

He will be missed.

It is so appropriate that he basically dropped dead holding court at the Apple Barrel. Hollywood couldn't script an ending more poetic than that.

He only released a few. Spiritland and Louisiana Medicine Man are both from the '90s and are great.
I have heard good things about one he released last year called Revelator but I haven't listened to it yet.

Nope... a place called the yellow moon. Existed for like 6 months.

Like a lot of new orleans bands/musicians it was more about seeing him live or hanging out with him in a bar.

Amazing.
You got all that out of me and others admitting we've never heard of him?
Wow.
I thought that I only meant that I had never heard of him

Arceneaux, eh? Changed it to Robicheaux? That's like changing your name from Jackson to Jefferson if you're in south Louisiana. I've got relations on both of those names in Terrebonne Parish. But he's from Ascension so he's not kin to me.

He was part of the old school musical set down here that really carried the heritage of music. One day all these guys are going to be dead and the last bit of that culture will be all about gone.

I'm curious - which hangout? I've gotten drunk several times with Kermit at Vaughn's and/or Markey's abd BJ's. I love hanging out with Louisiana musicians. There invariably hilarious and interesting.

Speaking of New Orleans and music, I met that impossibly gorgeous and talented actress from HBO's Treme. In real life she's a musician first and an actress second. Anyway, I was standing in line at the local Zara's (the lower Garden one) and believe it or not it was she who struck a conversation with me. Very gracious, talented girl. I only briefly complimented her work on the show because I'm sure she's sick of talking about it.

/is now madly in love with her, like every other guy who watches the show.

Too true. One of my friends that works at Adolfo's was with him so I heard pretty much right away. All I could say was he was surrounded by love and doing what he loved. He walked on with the spirit.

Coco Robicheaux was a kind man with a kind smile. He was a bad ass musician, artist and storyteller.

For those that haven't heard of him:
If you have or ever will walk in the front door of Tipitina's, that big bronze bust of Professor Longhair at the entrance was created by Coco, just so you know.

This makes me real sad. I've seen and met Coco many times.

I still remember a mardi gras a couple years back when he just stopped us in the street and said, "be careless". There were other brief conversations that we shared, but that time probably best sums up what it's like to talk to coco.

He was a real nice guy and a great musician. I can't count the times I've heard him in the apple barrel.

/ been careless ever since.
