Not bad for a 40 year old rerun. Let's see what kind of numbers GaGa's special gets in 2050.

-Repeating my comment from a redlit thread on this subject.

Happiness is a Warm Blanket Charlie Brown

That was PAINFUL to watch. I stuck with it because of so many fond childhood memories of watching the Peanuts on holidays. It just took forever to move the story along. Then I watched old one where Snoopy went to visit his first owner and realized that plodded along as well.

Now I'm having second thoughts about seeing that new Muppet movie.

The Muppet movie was the best movie I've seen in a long time. I got teary eyed (in a good way).

My five-year-old grandson discovered Charlie Brown this year, and he was delighted. To me, kinda old. To him, brand spankin' new as if it was just made for him :)

In before the inevitable claim that ABC is refusing to run A Charlie Brown Christmas this year because Linus's bible quotation talks about the birth of Christ and it's an outrage and why all God-Loving American Patriots® should forward this thread to everyone they know because this war on Jesus is socialism.

I work at an ABC affiliate.
It's on twice.

Yes, but is it unedited? I remember they cut it down a few years back to squeeze a few more commercials in.

Dalek Caan's doomed mistress: Yes, but is it unedited? I remember they cut it down a few years back to squeeze a few more commercials in.

Wiki:

On December 8, 2009, the special edited scenes in order to save room for the new ABC special, Disney's Prep & Landing:

After Charlie Brown never got a Christmas card, he immediately goes to see Lucy.
The scene where Sally prompts Charlie Brown to write a letter to Santa was removed.
After Shermy was asked to play as a shepherd, he never got a chance to say, "Every Christmas it's the same."
Schroeder never plays "Fur Elise" nor "Jingle Bells" (classic version, organ version, and toy piano version)

They may have cut a Santa reference but nothing important, for Christ's sake.

kukukupo: There is hope for America yet.

When I saw that they were running that "Gaga Thanksgiving" thing my response was "WTF". Beyond the question of why anyone would want to watch such a thing I have to ask; how does a Thanksgiving Special fit with her target demographic? When I think "club crowd" the first thing that jumps to my mind is not "loves Thanksgiving TV programming". These sorts of episodes are why Gaga will never be the second coming of Madonna, no matter how grossly she emulates her music and style. Madonna in her best years was media savvy; she understood her audience, and she played to it completely and relentlessly. She didn't barfed self-promotion everywhere; she promoted her self with precision and excellence. Sure her music was good, but what made her a big deal was her meticulous building of an image and a relationship with her hardcore fan-base. Ms. Germanotta can crib the details all she likes, but she can't steal that savvy, and that's why 20 or 30 years from now no one will even know who she was.

Oh bull shiat, if people know who Tommy James and the Shondells and Porter Wagoner are now, they'll certainly know who Stephanie is later. You may or may not like her, but she's made her mark, even if she never has another hit. Damn, and now I've white knighted for her and I've never bought a single thing of hers.

Twice? SWEET!

I'm just happy I didn't miss it -- ABC usually does the specials before the actual holiday.

Heck nobody gets all ZOMG at Linus' little speech in the Thanksgiving special -- granted it's a short historical account of the first thanksgiving but they were saying grace too.

Didn't even know it was cut in '09, it was uncut last year, and I hope it will be this year too.

What was that abomination they showed after the Charlie Brown Thanksgiving? The reenactment of the Pilgrim's journey and settlement. I know it's for families and all, but it was so whitewashed, Godheavy, and the Indians were THIS CLOSE to being "Hey white men, let's help you out and you can rape and pillage my land. S'cool." The pilgrims were a bunch of Puritans who were so strict they though England was too liberal and sailed across the sea and brought Jesus with them and in between dying of plague and starvation tried to baptize the heathen natives and get as much as possible for themselves.

I have no farking idea what they were thinking when somebody came up with the idea for a Gaga Thanksgiving special. Give her a show on New Years or just some random day, not a family holiday.

2011-11-26 01:23:28 PM
Compared to the new "specials" they've been producing lately, I thought the new show wasn't really that bad.

Lucy: "I got five pieces of candy!"
Sally: "I got a chocolate bar!"
Frieda: "I got a quarter!"
Lady Gaga: "I've got a cock."

Thank you. I'll be here all week.

Actually, I must apologize for the previous entry.

I have no idea if that was actually Lucy, Sally and Frieda under those sheets.

The beef I remember against ABC was that they cut out scenes (not that one) a few years back to make room in the schedule for a crappy second special. It wasn't a slight against Jesus, it was a slight against Charlie Brown, who you fark with at your peril.

Did they ever fix the skip in the soundtrack at the end of the bridge of "Linus & Lucy"?

For those so inclined; the part that has the triplet C# chord to single D# chord with the solo trill.

Haven't seen it in 10 years.

Was the Thanksgiving Special a new Charlie Brown episode? I couldn't remember it going that way. And their voices sounded different. It didn't have the same Charlie Brown rhythm.
