We, the American people, today ask you,

1) To enact an immediate ban on the videogame known as "SkyRim" produced by Blizzard Entertainment.

2) To seize and destroy all copies already in public hands and erase its presence on the internet.

3) To prosecute the players of "SkyRim" to the fullest extent of the law.

4) To create a national database of videogame avatars and "screen names" so that teenagers can be better monitored.

Update: Turns out the petition was indeed created by the Christwire folks.

Yeah, well good luck with that.

The lack of research on this one is staggering. Why is the "R" in "Skyrim" capitalized? Why do they claim it's made by Blizzard? If they were serious about the souls of the American youth, they would have at least read the game's gosh darn wikipedia page.
I wanna call troll on this one, but I wouldn't put it past the loonies.....

Christwire is nothing but satire, they do shiat like that on purpose, it's hard to read anything they have ever done and not know that fairly quickly.

Once it drops to $30 dollars then I'll have my copy of Skyrim. In the meantime I'll play TF2 and get owned like I always am.

Skyrim is a disappointing and poorly made over hyped game with one of the worst user interfaces in gaming history. Half the enjoyment from elder scrolls games comes from how badly you can break the mechanics or the engine of the game. Want to win skyrim easily? Grind up alchemy, enchanting and smithing and never die again.

2011-11-25 08:07:45 PM
I just bought Skyrim today and started playing...it's good but it's not the 'OMG best game ever' that I keep seeing about it. Controls and menus are clunky, and at about 4 hours of gameplay, it's already getting laggy.

#1- Agreed. The UI stinks so hard of console port, is so bogged down in littley-clickety bugs, it makes me want to punch small children. However, since this is a TES game, I can go and punch small children. People should stop bootlicking this game. There aren't even any hotkeys. There are no hotkeys. The shiat is this, the stone age?

#2- An acquaintance told me this, along with screaming HEAVY ARMOUR at me. This is why I have nothing in alchemy, enchanting, smithing, and am running around in light.

I'm glad I won't get to play this game for a few months, by then some mods for the UI, and improved texture mods should be available.

Skyrim makes me want to run around and murder every elf and Imperial I see. And sould I marry Lydia?

shArkh: There are no hotkeys.

There are hotkeys. In the inventory, highlight an item/spell/whatever and press F. That adds it to the Favorites menu. Close all menus. Press Q to open the Favorites menu. Mouse over an item and press a number. Press Q to close the Favorites menu. Voila, that item is now hotkeyed to the number you chose.

That said, yes, the UI is bad. It's not game-breakingly bad and is alright once you get used to it. But, yeah, it's bad.

2011-11-25 08:24:38 PM
Also I've run into more quest breaking bugs than I'd like to mention. Twice I've had the thieves guild quest line break down because of an AI related bug and have had to revert to older save files to fix it. I also love how you can steal any item in the game so long as you cover the NPCs heads with something first. Go into a shop or home, find a cauldron or basket pick it up by holding your use button down, then just slip it over the NPCs heads and you can steal anything, since you've broken their line of sight.

Still, I think I hate the dragons most. THey're obnoxious, they're not hard to kill aside from being the most annoying enemies in the game to fight and their loot, dragon bones and scales, are ridiculously heavy. I play a scummy sneak-thief and fighting dragons comes down to luring it to fight my horse-tank, then sneaking up and sticking a knife in its juicy dragon b-hole until it dies.

shArkh: There aren't even any hotkeys. There are no hotkeys. The shiat is this, the stone age?

There *are* hotkeys... too bad the game never lets you know about them. I had to find out about them on-line.

Mark weapons/items/spells as favorites (hit F) in your inventory. Then hit Q to bring up the favorites list during normal gameplay. Highlight an item and hit 1-8 to assign it to that key. Hit the hotkey once to equip it, hit it twice to dual-wield it if possible.

Menu system is pretty terrible though.

Lydia said "I have a bad feeling about this" so many times I started to suspect she might secretly be Harrison Ford. I'm glad she died in my game.

new skyrim thread \o/

They told my character she could be anything, so she became a god.

I know people are complaining about this but, I'm still having fun in the world, exploring, going through the storylines, even if my chick does seem a bit OP (and it's not like I couldn't just grab a barebones stock weapon/light armor to restore the balance). And I like that I can just swap some clothes and a weapon and play the theif, or drop everything and be a nude dual casting mage.

I have soooooo many hours in this game. And I get the feeling I've not even seen half of it. I've only scratched the surface on the main storyline.

Too bad the hotkeys don't work well with dual wielding anything.

I have spent well over a hundred hours in what amounts to nothing more than a fetch quest game, and I will spend another thousand more before I even think about stopping.

I will fetch your shiny bauble, and I will enjoy every minute of it.

The best bit is once you've maxed out alchemy and enchanting, you can create even better items with a feedback loop.

Create potion that increases enchanting skill. Drink it.
Immediately, create items that increase alchemy skill. Wear them.
Create potion that increase enchanting skill. Drink it.

And so on.

Finally, you create potions and items that increase your smithing skill. Then you craft and enhance weapons and armor to ridiculous heights. Then you enchant the crafted items with ridiculous effects. Then you kill everything.

Levels don't really matter in skyrim, much like Oblivion. In fact, it's a LOT easier to kill the main boss at 17 than 50 because his health/ magicka/ stamina and stuff will be greatly reduced. Not to suggest that magic isn't over powered in Skyrim.

Dragons are stupidly easy to fight with magic. They're very large, often stationary targets. And you can yell at them to stop their attacks. Honestly they're easy with melee, too, if you've happened to pick up any of the hundreds of resist potions the game throws at you. And you don't even need that if you've got decent armor and weapons.

Besides, "win at an Elder Scrolls game" does not really mean "beat the main storyline."

Wait a minute. I can petition the President for anything I want?

WE the undersigned hereby state the following

1) WHEREAS Mila Kunis is insanely hot and

2) SharkTrager is an awesome guy and

3) It is in the bests interest of our society that their awesome genes be combined

We therefore petition The President to compel Mila Kunis to marry Shark Trager and to engage in sexual congress with him as frequently as possible.

I'll use acronyms to keep spoilers down:

My thieves guild questline sort of bugged out. I completed it successfully, all the quest stages played, but that one NPC didn't return to NGH as was implied in the dialog, and instead walked to a spot in one of the earlier dungeons (Snow Veil). Force moving "K" with the console doesn't help, they walk right back. NGH is unchanged from the first time you visit.

My question is, for anyone who has done the Thieves Guild quest fully, is K residing inside NGH in your game as they are supposed to? Has NGH been upgraded at all? I'm wondering if it's worth losing 8-9 hours of work to load an earlier save and unglitch it.

/off to play all the skyrim

I honestly haven't been back there since I've finished the quest. However, I have heard that in order to fully "complete" the questline you need to do odd jobs for the Thieves Guild first. Most recommend doing those jobs before you get that far in the TG MQ.

ThisNameSux: Looks pretty but I've never been a fan of role playing games.

Think of the Elder Scrolls as more of a first person view exploration game. Like, Myst but in a living world and with more interaction (including combat).

It's not all that big on the "gather your party and venture forth" dynamic, it's not big on Moral Choice (TM), and it's not incredibly stat focused, although there are stats to manage.
