That was the one that got Greenlit? I read better

Is the joke that the Bengals (and Eagles) have a better record than the Vikings now, so the Vikings get the first shot to claim him off jail waivers?

My first thought when I read the headline was "Gee, I wonder which Packer retired?"

Oh, you've got eye witness accounts and 14 different camera angles of this incident too?

I'm not saying he's innocent, and if he's guilty of the crimes he's charged of, I'd love to see the Packers cut him, but to decide that he's guilty already screams of "Both sides are bad, so vote Lions."

As a side note, I've always wondered why cops aren't able to intervene in professional sport altercations. Two guys beat the shiat out of each other on the street, one or both are going to jail. Put skates on them, and the police have no authority?

Packers won't cut him until they get more info. He won't play this week against the Giants. Will he be cut? Probably once TMZ gets hold of the pics of his girlfriend he allegedly smacked around. Until then, I'm glad the dumbass sits in jail all weekend.

Fighting is legal in hockey, why the fark would the police get involved? You gonna send the cops to UFC or boxing matches too?

1. No it isn't.

2. Did a bit of research and it seems there is a bit of history of the police getting involved in some hockey fights. This wikipedia page was interesting: Violence in ice hockey (new window).

He was just demonstrating to her what Suh did to get ejected, he didn't mean to hurt her. Honest. He's turning his life around, young businessman, etc etc etc.

Looks like her gravy train is over though.

Hopefully he has a "don't beat your girlfriend" clause in his contract so they can cut him for free.

If not, make him play with no pads.

Okay, if fighting in hockey is illegal, then why aren't there arrests after damn near every game. Because it's ok? And no, no bonus points for "bbbbb but you still get a penalty!" because you knew what I was saying.

Yes, I knew what you were saying, but I think that's an important difference between hockey and the two other sports you listed, UFC and boxing. Fighting IS the sports in those cases, whereas in hockey it does result in a penalty. So maybe use better examples.

Because the courts have better things to do. They don't arrest and prosecute everyone after every run of the mill bar fight either.

Okay, then think about this. When is the last time you saw a news ticker on the bottom of your screen that said "Player from X team and Player from Y team suspended for fighting last night. And yeah, it needs to be two of them, because it takes two people to fight. Fighting is a perfectly legal thing to do in hockey from the police and court standpoint, regardless of the 5 minute penalty.

Plus, that link you put from Wiki is just ridiculous. 15 examples in over 100 years of history. Dude there were 15 fights in hockey games just this month. and the month before that.....and the month before that... you see where I'm going?

Another thing from that link that is laughable is how many of them aren't actually fights. One guy smacking another one with his stick (or a sucker punch in Bertuzzi's case) isn't a fight. Most of those from the modern era is one dude hitting another one with the phrase "from behind" coming up remarkably a lot. One guy cracking another from behind isn't a fight, it's an assault and it's probably why police got involved in the first place, with seriously weak consequnces. Plus aren't the ones getting charges all from Canadian authorities?

bel4sucks: You gonna send the cops to UFC or boxing matches too?

Consent is a defense to an assault or battery charge, in both criminal and tort law. Google "implied consent" for some stuff on actions taken within the scope of the game. This doesn't apply to actions outside the scope of the game, although I believe there is case law on the area of what I would term "stuff getting out of hand." For stuff that gets really, really out of hand, it is possible for the police and courts to intervene (see McSorley, Marty), but I think rka nicely summed up why it doesn't happen more often.

Criminy, tiger, I'm not trying to win; I'm trying to have a conversation. The link was because I found it interesting, not to win. Are all conversations with you this contentious?

Yeah, yeah, welcome to Fark.

Super Chronic, on the other hand, thank you. This gives me a nice platform to start looking things up. You are not a tool.

ROFL you gotta be kidding me. I reread my shiat to see the contention. No cursing at all, no name calling, not even a "ho". Damn dude maybe you should switch to the disney forums.

All I'm trying to tell you is that law enforcement isn't rule enforcement. It's not illegal to fight in a sporting event, which is why I brought up UFC and boxing. Besides the fact that you said this

FARTNOISE FARTNOISE JUNIOR: As a side note, I've always wondered why cops aren't able to intervene in professional sport altercations.

The cops don't intervene because it barely warrants discipline from the people that run the league, and it certainly doesn't go further than the immediate game in question. Two people fighting in hockey isn't getting people thrown in jail, it just doesn't. One guy cracking another one with a stick barely gets it.

I heard he tried to tell the cops he was just trying to get up and regain his balance while he was hitting her in the face.

Packers fan here. This is an embarrassment not only to the franchise, but to the state. Walden seems crucial to the success of our linebacking corps, yet I hope to see him suspended for the season. No place for this in Green Bay.

Zombo's supposed to be back and healthy, so not really crucial.

/until Zombo is injured again

IAmRight: Walden's played pretty well. Until Zombo can string together a few games, or until the mythical Vic So'oto is ready to go, Walden's absence will be a concerning necessity.

On the other hand, every time someone who is supposed to be critical goes down, someone else steps up completely and the team pretty much doesn't miss a beat. One of the advantages of being so injured last year is that there's more depth.

As a die hard Packer fan, I hope, if he is proven guilty, they cut his ass and run him out of town on a rail.

Playing professional football is a literal dream job and to play for the likes of the Packers is a privilege. This douche nozzle doesn't deserve to be in the NFL (again, if he is proven guilty).

2011-11-26 05:14:42 PM
IAmRight: Very true, but as adept as the Packers have been at maintaining a prepared roster, linebacker is one position that can never be overstaffed in a 3-4 base D that more often lines up in a 2-4-5 or 2-5-4. I'm definitely not highly worried about the impact on the defense as a whole, just the linebacking corps and their importance to the opposition's gameplan. Luckily for GB, it looks like Bishop and Hawk will be ready for week 13.

Overfiend: As a die hard Packer fan, I hope, if he is proven guilty, they cut his ass and run him out of town on a rail.

This is why although I'm not a Packer fan, I'm a fan of Packer fans. I love how whenever there's a Roethlisberger thread, you can tell if someone's a Steeler fan in their first sentence. "Poor misunderstood Ben couldn't have defiled all those slatterns, because he's still a virgin, I checked his cherry!"

When I worked in Saint Paul, my coworkers were almost equally divided between Packer fans and Viking Fans. I saw some funny shiat go down at work because of the rivalry. All good natured, not like Oakland or Philly fans. All my life I've been a Bronco fan, but I haven't lived within 1,000 miles of Denver since I was in the third grade (1970), so I've always been the lone Bronco fan at every football party. But Packer fans are everywhere!
